Top Flite Strata "TL Tour"

Bite Bite

Recommended Posts

Well guys, I was out in the mall here after supper and there is a sports outlet store. I made my way to the golf section and stumbled across these new TL Tours. 1 Dozen came to $13.10 Canadian. I checked out the covers before purchasing them and the logo is just their new cheap looking logo but the cover of the ball is soft, impressively soft. You know how the ProV1 has a sort of "grippy" cover.. like it doesn't feel like plastic like a Callaway Warbird ball... if you are into the ProV1 than you probably know what I am trying to say..

Anyway, the TL Tour has that "grippy" feeling and I think is going to be a sweet sweet ball for the price. I have been putting with the TL Tour and the ProV1 for the last 10 minutes and they feel very similar. You can of course tell which is which because the layer under the TL Tour's cover is harder than the layer under the ProV1's cover.. but all in all I think these are going to be great for the money. I am going to try them out on the course as soon as possible but that could be up to another month...

Does anyone have some first hand experience with this ball as far as full shots? I am really curious to see what sort of spin I can get out of these with my wedges.

The TL Tours are 3 piece urethane covered balls, similar to many "tour" quality offerings. I agree that they are a little harder than some other premium balls but the covers provide plenty of spin. I played them all of last summer and still have 2 dozen that I'll put to good use this summer. Nice find at that price.

Yeah, I can't wait to use these... I actually think that they will replace the Pro V1 for me if they spin as well as I think they will for me. I compress the ball pretty well so I think these are going to be a delight to get using. I am sending my lady back to the store tomorrow to pick up another 2 dozen.

I bought around 100 of them at beginning of last year and they became my gamer pretty quickly. Like you, stumbled across them going cheap.

I reckon they're great actually. They are definitely firmer than ProV1, Z-URS, and the like BUT for the price they are very hard to beat. I paid about one third the price of premium balls and seeing as a sleeve of ProV1s costs about $17 where I live, that wasn't bad at all.

In my experience, most of these premium balls fly about the same sort of distance - a 7i about 150 for me, 6i swingspeed about 82mph. I didn't notice any shortfall or other undesirable characteristics with the TL Tour.

You can back them up a little bit with wedges without crazy chew-back from other balls and the iron performance is one hop and stop, for me. Around the green they are ok, definitely a touch firmer than softer balls out there but still pretty good. They mark up in pretty much the same way as any other urethane convered ball.

For my game and swingspeed, their performance is not a million miles away from a ProV1x; I'm sure they fall a little short in absolute terms but their performance is close enough to top line balls for me to not get hung up the minor differences. Overall, very playable and far, far closer to the 'real thing' than any mid-price ball - Burner TP, AD333, etc.

I'm a 9 handicap. Hope that helps.

A bought about 12 dozen a year ago at $12.00/dozen. It is a pretty standard issue 3 piece urethane covered ball. Good distance off of the tee, good spin on partial shots around the green. They probably perform just a little short of the HX Tour or the Prov-1 but the difference isn't all that much. Probably not great performance in any particular cartegory, but a good all around ball.
