I like the belts but I don't know about $165 for one. Any other companies offer something similar for a more reasonable price? I actually think the Vineyard Vines ones are cheaper than this, granted they aren't needle point but the style is similar.

I havent gotten to try the new Peter Millar np belts but the are in the $99-115 range. I have seen collegiate, crowns, and sea island Peter Millar styles. The legit custom needlepoint belt makers are really where its at.

Tucker Blair is a little bit cheaper, but I think Smathers and Branson is a little better quality. If you start paying much under $100 for a needlepoint belt, you are going to start getting pretty suspect quality. Even for a homemade needlepoint belt, you likely are looking at over $100 when you take into account material and getting it finished.

I'm not sure those are even needlepoint. If they are the ones I am thinking of, they look like they are needlepoint, but they are stitched. JT Spencer makes those.

Yeah I can imagine that making one of those is a pretty labor intensive process so the price is certainly justified. They are really cool. Might just have to bite the bullet and get one. I've spent $150 on stupider things before :taunt:

I got my dad and uncle the tucker blair belts of the "Patchwork Map" varieties. The needlepoint was SPOT on... really looked great. But the quality of the actual belt it self lacked something to be desired. The leather belt portion got worn down much more quickly than expected. It probably would have been totally suitable and fine belt, but we've bought Smathers and Branson before and the quality was just much better for the money, comparatively.

I pretty much only wear needlepoint belts. I have a few Smathers & Branson belts and then my mom also makes custom ones! If you want a custom belt, check out this shop in St. Louis. They will make a custom template for someone to needlepoint or will do it for you (for an added fee, of course) with any design you want. After the template is needlepointed, you send it back to the shop and they finish it with a leather backing and the ends. Everyone in St. Louis gets their belts made here.

So do you wear Chubbies and Croakies with these?

Seems like something some frat boy from the SEC or wanna be SEC (Clemson) schools would wear.

If someone is looking for Smathers and Branson belts at a decent price, the thing to do is look for sales from the resellers. Go to Onward Reserve (onwardreserve.com) and use promo code school 15. That's what I did yesterday and makes it more affordable.

As a bonus, S&B are good guys. While I got the one from my club at a discount, from other clubs its a product I have no qualms paying retail for.

I realize I'm about to open myself up to massive ridicule for this, but let me say that MY WIFE told me about this site. And other than that, yes, I basically have no excuse.

If you're looking for that needlepoint belt preppy look (for men) but want to get something much much cheaper, try this. They have lots of styles.

I have the one with nautical code flags.
That is a pretty neat site and one I'll use when I order stuff for my wife and kids as well as scour through it for myself. I like needlepoint, preppy, and classic staples. As for the trolls who voice their own taste preferences then so be it. They only make themselves look silly with their comments.
I got to play last month with iteach and a couple other friends. It is easily my favorite resort I have played and will somehow try to do an anniversary weekend with my wife on the island at some point. Its everything you can ask for regarding golf. I think my favorite part of the trip was the men's lounge and hope to also do a fitting with their new amenities.

DC …. I was wondering if you knew what exactly constitutes a uniform worn by the "Sea Island Crew" ?!?!?!
Maybe a collared polo shirt, a logo'd belt, flat front short, and leather shoes? Sounds like the dress preference of 90% of golfers. :swoon:

I think it's, for the most part, the dress of 90% of middle / upper class people in general. What really irks me is the frat kids that wear fishing apparel. I don't know where this new thing came from but it's odd. I've talked to a bunch of these kids and they don't even fish LOL. They look like they just got off the boat from a day of Redfishing the flats...

Anyways, back on topic.
