Berth page Black as a single

Guys, I will be in Cutchogue this weekend and am considering driving down to Bethpage Sunday morning to try and get out as a walk on single.

 

It looks like Cutchogue is about 1.15 hrs away, if I show up around 9am do you think I will have a decent chance of getting on theBlack course?

 

If not I was thinking of heading to Montauk Downs but would prefer the Black, any advice?

It would take you longer to get to Montauk Downs as opposed to Bethpage. Plus if you headed out to Montauk expect an even longer commute back to Cutchogue after the round, everyone will be heading back home from the Hamptons. I would just try to show up around 7 or 8 am. May get lucky right off the bat or might have to wait and hour or two but you will get out there eventually.

Show up at 6 if you want to tee off reasonably early and finish in 4:30. Otherwise expect a later morning tee time and a 6 hour round.

I would say get there as early as possible, I played tuesday and was the first group out, some of the most enjoyable golf ive played in a while, no one holding you up

Couldn't be more correct. One day I showed up at 12 and got off at 1. It's not as hard as out of state people think. No need to camp out or any of that nonsense.

A true indicator that the golf boom is over. I used to sleep in the parking lot often to get out there, got out on it twice out of five times I slept over, had to play the other courses there...

Wow, you guys think even for a weekend you can get out on Black? Granted, single player is much easier than twosome, threesome, etc... but this is Bethpage Black we're talking about.

110% chance you get out if you show up at 9am. I'll go as far as to say you will most likely get out before 10:30.

Played about a month ago and it was in excellent shape.

Quick question, I know Long Island just received some record rain fall, did this impact the course at all? It is open right?

Call the course. Doubt it would be closed. We are in for some good weather the next few days so it should be all dried out.

Last time I played it was after the NYS open and they had cut the rough and such. Slightly disappointing because I was hoping to play it at that level of difficulty with it's horrid rough.

I just finished. I arrived at 7:30, and got out at 10:45. It was a 5 hr round, but it didn't feel horribly slow, if that makes any sense. The course is spectacular. The rough is really tough, the consultancy of the grass is super thick. The bunkers are deep, but the quality of the sand is perfect. Many of the greens are elevated, so local knowledge is a huge advantage. I'm really excited to go back tomorrow.
