Does "right in the middle of the fairway" mean "somewhere in B.F.E. that by all rights should be considered out of bounds or minimally a hazard because of all the thorn bushes?" :)

That is really soft though. I found these covers to be entirely too easy to cut up though. I have heard the new Tour i's are supposed to play like these, but have better durability. Personally, I think Callaway should send you a case for durability testing...you know, to find the thorns in the fairways. :man_in_love: Either way, thanks for the pics. Regardless of where the puncture occurred that is impressive. ;)

That sucks is muct be a bad ball and I agree that they should send you a dz balls for the imperfect ball. I would assume that the new ball is more durable. If you want to play the softest cover but has a durable cover is the NOP '08. It has the softest cover of any tour ball. You could play any of the tour balls out right now and they are very close. Here are the shore D rating and compression of the Top balls for '08.

NOP '08 Cover 47/ Compression 85

Pro V1 Cover 58/ Compression 78

NOB '08 Cover 55/ Compression 80

TM Black LDP Cover 57/ Compression 88

TM TP Red LDP Cover 62/ Compression 78

Pro Vx Cover 58/ Compression 88

B330S Cover 57/ Compression 83

B330 Cover 53/ Compression 88

ZUR-S Cover 63/ Compression 80

Cally Tour IX Cover 67/ Compression 86

Gee... wonder how a thorn got in the middle of the fairway :man_in_love:

Guess that is a pretty soft cover. Do you have durability issues with that ball? Is it your regular gamer?

Oh, come now. I was just harrassing taylormadefan because we're "boyz" and because he's one of a handful of people I know to tell the whole truth and nothing but.

In my experience though, I found the HX.56 to have some serious durability issues. I was a huge fan of it's playability, so it was my gamer for over a year despite never getting more than 18 holes out of it...usually less.

BRS--no clue what the Shore D rating means, but looks to me that the Nike One Platinum's compression is on the higher end of the balls you've listed. And again, it was obvious that I was joking--I don't expect taylormadefan to get another thorn embedded in a ball...ever.

Cool pic, thanks Taylormadefan. I found the hx tour 56 to be really soft too. I ended up switching over to hx tours and srixon zurs towards the end of last year. The 56's spin a little too much for my liking. I also experienced the durability issues with the 56 but I tended to keep the ball in play for at least 18 (if I didn't lose it!) no matter how bad it got scarred up. I have a new ix tour to test out if the weather ever breaks here.....

I've actually found the HX Tour 56 to be a relatively durable tour-level ball and have gotten a few rounds out of one. I've never scuffed the cover of one so badly that I couldn't play it anymore, but I'll admit that it's rare that I can keep a tour ball in play long enough to see it wear out. I've got two spin milled wedges and even those haven't scuffed them up that bad, but maybe that requires great contact :) .

K, was this one of the early proto's???

No just a regular Tour 56. I actually have liked it although not in the wind as much, tends to balloon, but so far it's been pretty durable for me. I've had a few paint scuffs here and there but even with a relatively new wedge in the bag with full milled grooves it's held up very well.

I still think I like the HX Tour or ZUR-C a little better overall though.

I like the new Tour iX, feels good. I think the cover feels a lot softer than the list shows above. I do think the HX Tour 56 is the softest cover on a ball I have ever played.

No, I frequently play the same course where this likely happened, and I am not at all surprised. :cheesy: Problem is that its only March and the fairways here are already like most Texas courses in August, so there's no give in the ground when the ball hits. We may very well be playing on dirt fairways this summer.

Hey, Kiran, maybe they were implementing another of their famous cost-cutting measures and dragging some dead rose bushes behind the mowers and calling it aeration. BTW - the 9 I played with III the other day - shot 36 with 3 pars....... :cheesy:
