Steelfiber i110 CW initial thoughts

I have been playing Bstone J40 Cb irons w/Project X 6.0 for about a year and have always wanted to try the steelfibers. I found another set of J40 CBs online that had the i110 s already installed so I picked them up and sold my other set. I was a little worried because I have quite an aggressive swing and driver ss is around 115. I figured that if Sneds, Kuchar and Freddie could handle them then I could easily. Well I head out to the range today and unfortunately I had a stiff 15-20mph breeze right in the face so I'm not quite sure about the numbers as of yet. I'm not going to lie it was quite the adjustment to get used to these. My first 40 or so balls were either thin or thrown out to the right. And then huge divots and dirt started flying and some over cooked hooks started happening. Finally after getting in tempo a nice draw developed the balls were flying pretty accurate. I do think I may have lost a little distance because the shots were sailing super high into the wing. Not quite a balloon but pretty close to it. The PX 6.0s always seemed to just cut through the wind. So far I have mixed feelings but for the first range session and never ever having played a shaft like this I can't complain but to much.

Its very very hard to balloon these shafts. I went from ballooning S300s to hitting penetrating shots with the i80s in stiff. If you are losing distance into the wind with these, its a swing issue. You should gain yards on every shot with these shafts. That said, might just be an adjustment period for you.

I was finishing up with a Titleist iron fitting yesterday and thought I would try them just for grins. I was really impressed with how well they felt and ecstatic at how straight they were. The two other shafts that I hit (C Tapers and PXI) had side spin numbers in the hundreds (200 and up)while the SF's highest was 137. Also lowered my back spin and cut my dispersion in half. Impressed me so much that I am going to order them in the new AP2's.

Have the SW's checked on them. If someone just swapped out the shafts w/o being careful of SW, the steelfibers can end up 2-4 SW pts on the light side. That can easily mess with tempo and ball striking.

Just switched about 4 rounds ago to the i110s-s. I didn't see any distance gain, but it has been in the 40s and very wet in western NY. I found the shafts very responsive and easy to control, no loss in distance. I would recommend that you check the swing weights mine were right on, but the GW I reshafted did come out a little lite (d0). I have added some lead tape for now, but will pull and add a swing weight plug latter this winter. I left a similar post to another Steel Fiber topic and my initial thoughts haven't change. I am glad I switched and expect a great coming year.

Bingo!

That's why I unloaded mine and starting all over and blue printing before building under MY SUPERVISION.

The others came out very light headed, and all over the place.

The shafts are fantastic but can't be built unless freq'd out and pro built to spec sw.

Mine felt so damn good, but performed poorly over time because of inconsistencies in the set.

I wonder how the OEM custom order will show up and fare with these. If so, might eventually have to sip the Titleist koolaid, even though I find their forgings rather sub par and average. Yes even compared to Cleveland's 588 set. Haven't been impressed with Titleist since ZB.

My 110's came installed from Titleist at D2 which is just right for me and those weights were verified locally too.

Ok I will have the swingweight checked. Other then me adding lead to the heads what else can be done to correct the issue if need be?

Lead tape on the head or have the heads pulled to add tip weights are the two standard ways to deal with that type of problem.

coming from a PX 6.0 if you were comfortable with them the Steelfiber 110 S isn't just a straight swap IMO, The PX 6.0 is FCM 6.5 when installed straight in from what I have found the Steelfiber i110 S is around 6.0-6.1 FCM which is equivalent to the PX 6.0 Softstepped once. With a 115mph Driver swing depending on your transition and speed I would consider hardstepping the i110 S to bring them back up to what you may be used to.
