Hybrid for someone who hates Hybrids.

I have a problem hitting hybrids, I basically hit low crazy hooks with any hybrid ive ever tried. I tend to hit the ball on the lower side to begin with, but I don't really hit hooks with anything but the hybrid. Im fine off the tee and fairway with my 5 iron or my 4 wood, but that kinda leaves a big gap for 210-220yd shots. Any hybrids out there that are not prone to hooking. That still launch decently high.

I guess my next option would be maybe a 7 wood?

Heres some of the hybrids I can remember trying over the years

Adams a12 pro is only one I could hit clean without snaphook......trying out a xhot pro now but will go back to adams if not....so far its not too bad....

on side note I tend to like hybrids with square head and sit flat on ground.....rounded back of most hybrids and toe upright isnt good

why dont they make hybrids sit flat.....always upright it seems and I am tall so for most people they are really upright....

adams a12 pro is phenomenal and has good shaft....cheap too

The answer is an Anser. Or the Adams Pro if you like new things. Older versions would be an a12 or the ol' Sonartec MD.

I am tall also and always feel like they have more upright lie angle.

Would the A12 pro still launch pretty easily? I associate the "pro" as in lower launching for some reason.

I think trying a hybrid with a heavier shaft could help. I also tend to hit the ball lower, but was only hooking my hybrids. I recently purchased a hybrid with a heavier shaft and the hooks are gone. The heavier the shaft, the more it feels like an iron IMO.

I've always fought a hook and spent all my time looking at clubs and shafts. Finally had a fitter suggest fatter grips, despite not having really large hands. The fatter grips slow hand rotation, helping reduce the hook. Works for me. I think there is something to the theory of fitting your grips to your swing, not your hands.

Had the same issue until I found the Rescue deep face model. Awesome club. You can occassionally find them on eBay or Will might have a few around his shop still.

913H, Anser, I20 are good hybrids that people tend to have less problems hooking, i don't really understand the hybrid hook comments but that is irrelevant. One thing to think about depending on your skill level are the driving iron type clubs. The rapture DI, DHY, 712u, MP fli hi and many more that look more like an iron but are a lot easier to hit compared to a typical hybrid. Simply looking down at something that looks more like an iron may help you quite a bit. Specifically the Ping DI is really easy to hit although at 18* that doesn't really fit the gap you want to fill.

I had the same problem until I switched to a heavy shaft,103g, and I stopped looking at the club. I just imagined I had a 6iron in my hands. Worked for me!

I do have the Adams A12pro with a Diamana Thump.

For me, when I get the hooks with the hybrids it is usually because I'm unintentionally setting up with the face closed. Your 825 pros are relatively low offset which can tend to make a lot of hybrids the oddball club in the bag for set up.

I would look for a hybrid with less offset and a heavier shaft does help with the tempo. The new i25 looks promising and can be had with the 90g shaft stock.

Good luck!

I second heavier shaft. At least 85g for long hybrids (2/3) and I go over 100g in higher lofts (4/5).

I also second the Anser hybrid. It seems very neutral to me, but I do hit it a bit lower for what ever reason, just a heads up since you're a low-ball guy. One thing I had heard in the past in regards to hybrids (notably Adams) is the "tour issue" hybrids are actually just 1-2* flat of the "retail" hybrids, which helps the tour issue ones not hook as much as the retail ones might. So maybe look at older style tour issue Adams or you can order any of them from Ping in a couple of degrees flat.

I would suggest trying out one of the driving irons, for you probably bent 3-4* weak to fit your gap.

I don't care for hybrids either, I've owned four and more often than not when the shot had to count I got ballooning rubbish. I can count on one hand the number of nice shots I had on course with the Nickent one that kind of worked. This driving iron on the other hand is like a 2 iron that's just easy to hit and flight up and down. The tradeoff would be hitting it out of the rough.

My 2007 burner has an 85g Aldila DVS in it, so its a heavier shaft than stock.

I have tried Mizuno H4, i just couldnt get the launch high enough. It wasnt bad, just too low when coming in from 210yds.

Maybe its in my head, maybe i havent tried the right combo yet. I dunno. I just dont know how i can hit such wicked hooks with a hybrid when everything else is slight draw, straight or slight fade.

Get a hybrid that looks like a mini-fairway wood.

Look at the new Bobby Jones (Jesse Ortiz) Blackbird with a custom shaft if you are high SS.

I hit it last night -- better looking than in pics, and pics look good. A very solid feeling club and cupfaced, rounded sole for versatility, deep enough yet launches high.

I tried Adams PNT, Nike, TM, Ping, and countless others. I am not a high ball hitter by any stretch of the imagination. I was hooking the crap out of every hybrid I hit and hitting them the height of a 2 iron or less. On a whim I tried the Bridgestone J40 hybrids. I figured, hey I love the irons and the Driver, why not give the hybrid a whirl.

Well I am glad I did, I can cut it, draw it, hit it high and hit it lowish. Best hybrid I have ever hit and NO ONE talks about it. Tond of people love the Bridgestone irons, a few love the drivers, but I have never seen anyone rave about the J40 hybrids. I have the 21* and have some lead tape on it and have it at stock length, which is a bit long. Grip back and make a draw swing and it goes high and long like a 2 iron. Grip down and make a cut swing and it works like my 3 iron.
