This is a weak field....many premier pros are sitting out and I think 10 of 20 eligible Rolex top ranked pros are absent.

It's a shame because Royal Melbourne.....depending on which list you read...is either #9 or #13 of the world's best golf courses.....the women seldom play on the top world's courses.

It's great that Dr. Handa is sponsoring this event....but money talks....up the purse and more premier pros will attend.

Royal Melbourne requires great course mgmt knowing where to hit your approach shots and a sharp short game.
Lots of no names on top after day one....but I expect them to eventually succumb.

Come late Sunday...I expect Lydia, Webb, Korda and the Hulk (Ha Na Jang) to contend.
Ariya patience and wild play may take her out of contention.
Hopefully Charley learned from her mistakes from last week.

Ryu continues to get in her own way...+4....and she has a big advantage....Tom Watson...her loop...grew up playing RM.

NYC continues to get snubbed....she was in the TV window and nothing...yet #230 ranked Cheyenne Woods was shown frequently.
I believe IMG manages the Asia Pacific swing productions.

I was going through the scores and saw Sedena Parks had 83. Yikes.

She has had a pretty rough start to the season. Hopefully she can turn it around. She withdrew after a +6 at Pure Silk after the first round so maybe she is dealing with an injury.

I'm disappointed that the US is only represented by Goofy at RR #19 out of the top 25. Royal Melbourne is deserving of a better showing by the Americans and even some of the higher ranked Europeans. I have a prediction now there will be no Europeans in the top 10 by seasons end. A good chance for some of the lower ranked players to earn some $ but that's not what I want to see at an LPGA tournament especially in an area that is far more deserving of a Major than France. The prizemoney is not great but there is still valuable CME Globe points up for grabs. Thought this long course would have really suited Bam Bam and she is in good form but she was also a no show.

This tournament is covered by the ABC Australia which is the government run channel. I challenge anyone to put up a firm argument that Cheyenne Woods justifies her exposure outside the fact that she is Tigers niece. You have to be seeing more play on the live stream as opposed to the GC coverage due to commercials but I'm sure we will see some of NYC if she gets up the leaderboard.

The firm conditions and trickiness around the greens of Royal Melbourne is exposing the weakness and lack of imagination by some pros.

This course is playing butt hard. If you weren't ready for it, you were getting schooled. If you're at +1 or +2 right now, that's an achievement.

She is a recent ALPG tournament winner, no? Plus she is a fox.

Agreed. She's a LET winner and got her card. +1 doesn't exactly light the world on fire, but she does have game. And apparently she can golf too. :)

I was watching while working in my office but I noticed a lot of shots going over the green and the pros having trouble getting back on the green and staying there. Some were trying to lob the ball in but using a putter even from 20 yards might have been a better choice.

Why would the Yank divas need to leave The Centre of the Universe (USA) to play a world class and #1 ranked course in Oz...lol.
If not for Goofy being a past champ.....she might still be in Florida.

Pebble Beach is ranked close to RM...would the gals skip PB?
Money talks...either Dr. Handa needs to reach deeper in his piggy bank or find another sponsor.

But I give credit to the Aussie's to get the gals onto their #1 course.
The gals seldom play the top ranked courses in the US or Canada.

It really is surprising that some pros don't account for the roll out on approaches and the gals need to play more bump and run around the greens....but we know the gals can be kind of one dimensional in their course strategy/mgmt.

I'm watching it live on Golf Channel and getting ready to MUTE the Aussie announcers. :bigwhack:
As bad as the male Aussie announcer is, it was nothing compared to Dr. Handa's singing performance - hope you had that muted. He's one different breed of cat.

I'm all for firm and fast, but that course was almost unplayable. Some shots landed short of the green, and still managed to roll off the back. That's nuts. I understand that they're often coming in with long irons or hybrids, but it is a bit over the top, no?

I have a golfing daughter a couple years younger than Charlie Hull. I would not let her play in shorts that short.

My comment was not directed at the new policy. As the father of a young lady golfer, I honestly thought her shorts were too short. She's too young to wear something like that. Leave that for The older gals. Then it's more acceptable. On some junior tours, they would have made Charlie change, put on rain pants, or leave the golf course.

They know they have a US audience. I wish they would convert the meters to yards like they do on the European Tour.
Personally, I prefer it in meters..
They can do both. For example: for our US audience that is 340 yards.
