Sully, when you can bring home an A- and see the look of disappointment/disapproval in your mom's face, you can understand how that might affect a kid.

I'm working on being more of an angry drunk. I'm too much of a laugher these days.

Btw- I no longer want anything to do with math. I look back wistfully upon my AP calculus days. Don't even know what a derivative IS anymore. *le sigh*

I am going to plan a trip to MB in the fall. This will most likely be a trip in Oct from a Wed to Sunday(maybe longer). I will set this up but I have no real plans for courses as of how. I have played every track down there. I am thinking maybe set something up with one of the groups, Legends - Barefoot - Glens etc. MTN expressed interest and I am going for sure. If anyone has any interest let me know.

I was on the math team in Junior high. I still do some kind of math almost every day, or some combination of math & programming. Some of it is really "normal" algebra, geometry and calculus. Matter of fact, if anyone remembers "Simpson's Rule", the project I'm on right now is applying THAT, but to some messed up stuff.

Anyway, I'd been topping drives and making bad contact. So, when I said I went to the range for a "driver day", this was (almost) all about the crazies. Teeing up 3 balls and going smash-smash-smash. Hitting driver off the deck. Starting my swing with the club hovering a foot over the ball. Starting swing with the club in motion. Hitting Happy Gilmore drives. Intentional smother hooks, 180 yard high cuts. Intentional tops.

I've been doing a lot of the same stuff with my putter. . .one handers, sequential putts, changing stance, grip, etc.

Just trying to get back into the mental state of playing and not swinging. It's coming back, too. Except for one drive I hit with too much doubt in my mind Saturday, my driving was very good all day. I knew it was good when I hit a low hard draw on 10 at Pine Ridge that started on a perfect line, smashed down about 200 out and ran like a scalded dog another 60 right down the middle. This is a fairway that PQ went through with an iron, and Halcyan and Dad were also through the fairway right. Aggressive, challenging, risky drive, pulled off to perfection. Followed by a 3-putt.

Oy. There's so many integral methods it's hard to keep track. Polar coordinates= no thanks.

My math these days is relatively basic, but I had definitely reached Wizard level in Calculus. It took me about 3 years of undergrad before I finally "got" differential equations though. All that work, and then at the end of senior year my classes all taught the short for LaPlace transforms for our control systems problems and then it was easy peasy.

Heading to Carolina a few weeks before that, so no can do.

I'll try to schedule the 7's so that there's no overlap.

Look at the big brains in here!

Before I got big and dumb I was also pretty good at math. Proof that it can't be limited to tiny Asian people. In fact, I won the state science Olympiad gold medals in the chemistry, physics and math exams one year. In grad school, I got duped into teaching differential equations to low performing incoming grad students, and that was about the last time I did any real math. Real being more than can be solved in a minute or two. Much of our molecular modeling required some pretty heavy math, solving thousands of differential equations in a time resolved system. But that was built into the programs, we just had to vaguely understand the equations it was trying to solve. Now, the hardest thing we get into at work is basic statistics.

Ugh. I got that Wakeup Light alarm over the winter, and have been using the alarm sound that has birds chirping. Now spring is rolling around and I have real mf'ing birds chirping outside my window a few hours before my alarm goes off. Really screwing with me.

Start using the crying baby accompaniment. You're welcome.

I think thread hero davechen might take offense at this guy's screen name.

You don't know how mad I got when I found out there was another Dave Chen at NIH. Now there are 6 according to the directory.

This mad..

This is more appropriate. Because of the golf theme, of course.

I joke that I make water flow down hill now. All that math for an engineering degree. I was actually 2 math classes away from a math minor. Could have taken them my last year to add that to the resume. Somehow, in a moment of clarity (which were few and far between at 22 in Blacksburg and Ocean City) I decided it would get me absolutely zero in the real world. No regrets.

And yes we had math competitions too. There was one question my junior year that I was the only one out of 5 kids each from 4 different schools to get correct. I have no idea what it was was or how I got it right. But I sorta remember the answer being something like "4."

I tried to inform Sully long ago that a couple kids would solve all his alarm problems. You'll never fail to wake up. Ever.

Exactly, and you'll never be able to fall asleep so easily when given an opportunity. I tend to fall asleep on the tee.

As opposed to that Barney Fife debacle yesterday, there's a nice article up from Richie Hunt on the front page. . .

http://www.golfwrx.com/354872/a-statistical-analysis-of-2016-u-s-ryder-cup-prospects/

I was having a golf anxiety dream when my wake up light started going off today. Late for the tee. Guy wants me to hit a "new driver". Tee it up. Then, there's a mound behind the ball so I had to hit down on it with the driver. Hit it right down the middle and then it hooked left into the trees. I *NEVER* have GOOD golf dreams. They're always messy like that. . .ball won't stay on the tee. I pick a club, then look up and the hole has changed, etc etc.

Boogs, no one knows this is you. Give a heads up next time you change your screen name.

And I refuse to call you Moes.

I thought the multiple bags and answers regarding having 5 drivers would give away my identity. Clearly my ho'ing game is not on the usual level expected of me. I apologize to the group.

I'll always be Boogs, but thought it was time to retire the name and embrace my inner moes deaf.
