My new putter-Genuine SGC Putters

I've been in search of a blade putter with sharp lines. I'm not into rounded bumpers. After much searching, I came across Genuine SGC putters. I contacted the owner Stu and he took great care of me.

As an FSU alum, I wanted a little garnet and gold on the putter. I didn't go too crazy.

I've only rolled it on my putting green. I can't wait to play a round with it tomorrow.

Head weight is 365. And I can't say enough good things about Stu. He was incredibly quick to answer my emails and really was a pleasure to work with. I'm going to send him an old putter to refinish too!

What is the finish? I like the site dot

Stuart made me one which is centre-shafted and it is still my most consistent putter!

Thank you. Stu is a great guy. I've only communicated with him through email and he was very prompt, thorough, and helpful. Just a nice guy.

The finish is a black matte finish. I don't know any more than that.

Today, I played a round with it. The greens at my course are kind of a hot mess--a fungus moved in and they are trying to get it out. So, there are some spots that are rough.

I had 33 putts today. I still ended up shooting a 74 and I was pleased because I've been playing so poorly. But, the putter performed well. I still need some time to get adjusted to it. But it looks promising. A few of the putts I missed were because of course conditions.

I can't wait to play again soon and give it another go.

Here's mine :blind: SS with a Salty Grip - I too like the clean lines. Mine does not have a site dot or line, but I quite like it without. I can't recall the final weight, but it is slightly heavier, which helps me with shorter putts on fast greens. I also like the slightly wider body.

I might try a SuperStroke GT 1.0 with counterbalance weight to see how it feels, as the Salty might be a bit larger than I need, but really enjoying it none the same.

The one picture of yours looks like a tri-plane sole, or is it just the light in the picture?

Very nice.

When I was talking with Stu, I was between a sight dot and going naked. He had this head laying around--I think it was one he used to use--and I decided to try the sight circle without paintfill. It's there but not too distracting.

It is a tri-plane sole. To be honest, I did not know it was one until it arrived. However, I've always liked them, so it was a welcome surprise.

I need to try one of those salty grips. They look awesome. I've used ss mid slim 2.0 grips for quite some time, but the pure big dog grip he put on it feels great.

I like your simple stampings. I hope you continue to putt well with it.

Hi Janice and John :happy: glad you're both pleased with the putters! The black finish is a polymer finish over carbon steel and I'll throw in a comment on the Salty grips - I love the look and size of them, but am not crazy about the overall feel of them. When I had one on one of my putters I found everything felt firm... a rubber grip will dampen the feel much better in my opinion. Last season I used a 2.0 super stroke - this year I may use one of my "Big Dog" Pure Grips like yours John :happy:

Shot another 74.

It was a match play event and I won 4-2. I had to give my opponent 8 strokes. I didn't think I had a chance but I putted so well and made some great one putt saves that my opponent got frustrated. I never putt like that. I'm mediocre at best lately.

For example: The first hole I had to give him a stroke--a par 5. I hit a good drive. A mediocre 2nd and then a poor chip. I had 18 feet for birdie and was away. I put a good stoke on it and drained it. That set the tone for the day. My opponent then 2 putted for a bogey.

Anyway, I putted much better with it. The more I practice with it, the more I really like the grip. It has a flat front which I like for my left hand low stroke. It seems to set up square quite easily. Or, it just really suits my eye...whatever it is, I like it a lot.

I had 32 putts so there is still room for improvement. The season is just starting so I hope to continue to improve.

Stu, thank you for the update on the finish. I'll be sure to send you my backup putter soon to refinish!

I switched out my Salty grip for a SuperStroke GT pistol 1.0 and you are right Stuart - much better feel (for my liking, although salty Grips are good for some people), but I also like a softer grip. I shortened it a bit, and made a good putter even better!

Getting more and more comfortable with this putter.

We have a member match play tournament going on.

I lost in the second round, 1 down--shot a 74 to his 73.

However, I only had 28 putts. I had must make putts on 17 and 18--15 feet and 8 feet respectively--and made them both. Granted, he poured his par saves on top of mine but the take away is that under pressure I putted well with this.

I am loving the Big Dog grip. I decided to order another grip and put it on my Edel--which is no longer my #1. This has just solidified that spot.

Next week is my member guest and I play with my father. I'm looking forward to it now that I feel more comfortable with this Norwood.

Hopefully, I won't be a choking dog!
