I finally got my shaft all set up and ready to go. I went with the KG860-D40 shaft. My swing speed is usually right around 110 and can go up to 115 if I want to go after it. I’ve always had a really high ball flight. My driver use to be the best club in my bag, but in recent years have struggled with a huge double miss. So I took this awesome opportunity from GolfWRX to try something different. My old driver, TM SLDR 430cc w/Tour AD BB 6s 9*, was set up to keep the ball down. I decided that I was going to put a 2015 Callaway XR 9* driver head on this shaft and hope it could replace my SLDR. Most of the reviews I read about this shaft before picking was it launches high, but the dispersion was tighter compared to others.

First, I’m sorry I didn’t have access to a launch monitor to see actual data. This past week I had 4 ranges session with it and played on the course with it once. When I first started to compare the drivers I was trying to see if I was giving up any noticeable distance. If it was just a little I wasn’t going to be too worried. It wasn’t noticeably longer or shorter on the range or during my round. The biggest difference i was the height of my drives. This was to be expected, but this shaft and driver combo launches the ball high. I ended up putting my setting to 8*/Neutral and it still gets up there. When I was playing this week it got a little breezy on the back nine. I played with a couple of guys that hit the same distance as me so I could compare the difference with the high ball flight into the wind. Both of the guys are lower ball flight guys so you would think they would have a huge advantage on me into the wind, but even launching it a mile in the air I was keeping up with them into the wind. The biggest thing I noticed during my range sessions and on course was that my shot dispersion was drastically improved. I believe this could be from both the shaft and a more forgiving head. I was hitting my usual High fade that I was accustom to from a few years back. I played on a relatively short course for Colorado that requires more ball placement over distance so I didn’t hit a ton of drivers but I went 7/7 fairways. That was a first in about 5 years!!! Overall, I was really impressed with how smooth this shaft feels even when I tried going after one. I might have to try a lower launching shaft and see if it might add a little distance, but as long as I keep this combo in the short grass it will be in the bag! Not to mention this driver/shaft combo has to be one of the coolest looking clubs out there.

I want to thank the GolFWRX and Paderson for this awesome opportunity and would recommend this shaft to anyone. If there anyone has questions I would be happy to answer. I still want to get launch monitor numbers for everyone to see.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sorry for the delay in my review of this shaft. I choose the KG860-D40. It took me a little while to get it dialed in the way I like it.

A little background about my swing & the shaft I normally use. A few years back I was swinging the driver around 113mph. I had a couple injuries, developed some bad habits, & my swing speed dropped to 106mph. After getting healthy & working with Monte at two of his clinics, my swing speed is back to 113mph. I've always played shafts that are either S+ or X. I currently have the Aldila Rogue Black 70 S tipped one inch in a Titleist 915D3. It's been a really good combo for me.

When I picked out the shaft I wanted for me driver, two things stood out to me. It was going to be heavier than the shafts I normally use in my driver & the torque would be higher as well. With those two things, I definitely had some preconceived ideas on how the shaft would play. It took a few swings to realize those ideas were wrong.

This shaft is very smooth. It doesn't feel like a shaft in the mid 70g range. I also noticed a much higher ball flight that was still penetrating. I jumped on Trackman & hit 5 shots with the Paderson & the Aldila. With the Paderson, the carry was 275yds & 2650 spin. The Aldila was a 268yd carry & 2950 spin. On the course, I am seeing the same distance gain. Dispersion is much better with this shaft & my misses are much more playable.

In conclusion, this is a really, really good shaft. The performance of this shaft is on par with any premium shaft on the market today, at a much lower price. This is a shaft that all golfers need to try. Thank you to Golfwrx & Paderson for this great opportunity.

I was picked and chose to go for the KG860-D30 Stiff. I am presently nursing an upper back muscle strain and have been unable to swing a club for the past few weeks. Once I am on the mend, I am hoping to pick up a Ping or Titleist driver off the BST to compare to my glued Wishon 919 driver with KK Black TiNi shaft. The Wishon has served me well so I am interested in seeing how the Paderson keeps up not only in distance, but accuracy as well.
