Shoe advice

Recommended Posts

Looking for a new pair of shoes and need some input. I want a lightweight pair that are easy to walk in, and nothing too expensive. I do not care between spikeless and spiked, but I have noticed that my spiked shoes in the past (AdiPure, Tour 360 ATV) are tougher to walk 18 in.

I prefer Nike or Adidas but am open to FootJoy. Basically, what is a shoe that is comfortable and lightweight from those brands, keeping a sub-$150 price in mind?

I believe FootJoy DNA's just went on sale for approx. $99 a pair. In my opinion, those or the Adidas Tour 360 Boosts are the best golf shoe to come out in the last 4-5 years.

The DNA's look good w/ everything - have a classic but sporty style to them, and have traction that's second to none. They also are made of soft leather that breaks in almost immediately.

Nike also made a few pair of shoes w/ the Free technology that are very good for walking - the TW line comes to mind first.

As someone who used to wear Nike Shoes exclusively (owned every pair of TW and Lunar Controls they came out with), i have to echo the sentiments that the DNA Shoes that are on closeout are great and a great value at their current price point. I got a pair for $90 via an eBay auction.

You can also get the Lunar Control 3 golf shoes (last year model) via TGW for around $60. I don't think that applies to all color ways, but it's another great value.

Got a pair of Adidas Pure360 Gripmore recently for $50 on eBay and they're extremely comfortable. Was worried about the soft spikes in wet conditions, but I recently played in Ocean City, MD for 4 days and it rained the whole time and they performed beautifully. Might be worth checking out

I got a pair of footjoy hyper flex for sale at 139 at golfsmith. Most comfy shoes I've ever owned in over 25 years. Runs 1/2 size big though

Nike FI Bermuda

+1 on those. Tried them at a local store the other day and was just blown away by how comfortable and light they are. Wore the size I normally use in Nike shoes.

They are entirely made of mesh though, so probably not recommended if (like me) you live in an area where playing in the rain is common practice. Decided not to pull the trigger. If I can find the same shoe with a street-type sole I'll buy them straight away.

Being a Nike guy myself, I'd suggest last season's Lunar Controls. I almost exclusively walk my rounds and prefer spikes and have enjoyed every iteration of the LCs -- on a related cost note, I've only purchased previous season's version of the LCs generally on sales racks and always under $100 (i.e., LC2's following the LC3 release; and just purchased the LC3's about a month ago).

I have a two pairs of Nike Lunar Waverlys which are a light/comfy (Lunarlon + Cork insoles)/casual spikeless option -- but aren't as stable/supportive as the LC line.

The DNA's are a great all-around shoe, especially if you can get them on clearance. My only personal complaint about the DNA's is that there is a noticeably large heal-toe drop (compared to Nike) that takes some getting used to, and they are definitely a bulkier/heavy shoe where the weight became more apparent after walking 14-15 holes.

I've had the new Adidas Tour 360 Boost for a few weeks and I absolutely love them. Best shoes I've owned. I have a pair of spikeless Echo Biom II, and they're super comfortable but they don't perform as well in wet conditions. If you don't want to spend the $199 on the Adidas (which to me, they're worth it) I'd say wait until they go on sale in a few months. Some of the new Nike's may be comfortable and lightweight, but that huge swoosh is too gaudy looking for me.

do you play in the morning? If so watch the super lightweight shoes with mesh, you will have wet feet.

The Adidas 360 line is excellent, i have had a ton of them and they are not heavy to walk in with the last few models. I also have many other Adidas shoes that are light weight.

Footjoy FreeSytle and Hyperflex are super light weight also. The DNA is a super great shoes also, it will not feel heavy on your foot.

Haha those are my current shoes and they are great. Just looking for a second pair since I will play a lot this summer and my Gripmores are over a year old and I want to preserve them.

The Puma BioDrive are the best golf shoes I have owned to date. I used to be a True Links guy, then moved on to the New Balance Minimus sport (great shoe but not waterproof)... the Puma Biodrive seems to be the best blend of waterproof, mesh, spikeless, lightweight and stylish golf shoes which I have found. They are $120 off the rack but I found them on sale at Golfsmith for $90 and a second pair for $85 on tgw.com

FJ freestyle is one of if not the most comfortable golf shoe I've ever tried on. Very light as well. They might be perfect for you, just towards the top of your budget.

That is surprising as they do not work for me at all.

What dont you like about yours?

I have only tried them on at the store. They do not fit my feet. Arch is in a weird spot and the toebox is too narrow. Tried both a 13m and a 13w. Length is good, but neither worked.

I agree with the DNA closeout recommendation. Keep in mind that they run larger than normal. In my case, I normally wear a size 11.5 but had to drop down to a 10.5 in the DNA.

Nike has the TW15 on closeout and I think that is a good price for a good shoe as well.

These are 2 of the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned and are ideal for walking.

Decided to get the Nike FI Premiere's. Pretty comfy and nice athletic look to them. Pricey but used PUD because I work at a golf store so it was not that expensive.
