How much has your bag changed in the last year?

DevilGolfer54

Recommended Posts

Two drivers (915D3 since last July)

One 3 wood (RBZ tour [rocketship])

One 5 wood

One Ping G Crossover (meant to kick the 5 wood out, it failed)

One T-MB 3 iron (kicked the Ping G Crossover in to last decade)

5 wedges (52, 58 MD2 replaced by 52, 56, 60 SM6)

Two putters (Studio Style Newport 2 replaced by Oil Can Newport 2 and just switched back yesterday)

Two iron sets (Taylormade MB/CB combo for Scratch SB-1, might be adding a 3rd here soon...)

It should be noted though that I bought a boat, 4 new fishing rods, several dozen new lures and assorted stuff...so maybe I have just switched out obsessions and haven't grown up at all.

Only thing I desire at all for next season is a new 2-iron and maybe going KBS 610 in the wedges. My bag is locked in for the most part

The 610s were one of three changes I made this year. C-tapers in the irons and a counterbalanced putter being the other two. Oh, and took 3/4 and inch off my driver's length. Love it.

You will like the 610s. Just got done playing my first few rounds with them and was pleasantly surprised at the difference they make. Allow me to step on my gap wedge a little more from time to time and has definitely knocked a stroke off my scores. The flight is what I feel full wedge shots should be, and the spin is just enough to stay predictable.

Mine is always changing!

Currently planning going to 5* loft gaps between irons, eliminating one iron, and to facilitate adding a 64* lob wedge .

I hit a lot of 1/2 and 3/4 shots now, and practice those shots probably more than full shots - any distalnce gaps the larger wedge loft gaps create can be covered with my standard parti al shots.

I just think the specialty wedge will be a better scoring addition.

Thinking Hogan irons with individual loft availability to preserve proper bounce angles will be better than bending a conventional 3* loft gap set.

Driver: 910d3 w/ Kai'li then Phenom, SLDR w/ stock speeder then Speeder 7.3 TS, 910d2 w/ phenom, i25 w/ Tour75

Think I could be sticking with the i25, I really wanted to like the g30 ls but I gained nothing in testing, when m2 prices drop I'll look again

3 wood: Adams Fast12, Taylormade SLDR S, R9, X2 Hot Pro, SLDR w/ Speeder 8.3 TS

Always looking for possible options with this slot, the normal SLDR has only been in the bag for one round and it's been pretty solid so far, not as forgiving as the rest though

Hybrid: Adams a12 Pro, Adams Pro

Don't really know why I tried the new pro because I love my a12 so it's back

Irons: Mizuno MP53 w/ S300, i25 w/ CFS

I bought the mizunos when I was over 20hc so never really had the game for them in hindsight but the pings have got me from 22 down to 11 this season, massive improvement but this is still where I feel I could pick up shots

Wedges: TM TP xFT 52, Vokey SM 56, Mizuno MPT4 52&58, Vokey SM5 52F&58M

The mizuno wedges were the first time I had a matching wedge set and it definitely paid off, the 58 is my go to and is wearing down so I've just ordered SM5 52&58 to put into play straight after the club champs

Putter: Ping Ally2, Ody Metal-x 7, Ody works 7, Cleveland Classic 2, Ody Versa 90 7, Ody versa 7 bwb

As you can see, I love the 7 shape, I want to love a blade but I'm just more consistent with the 7

The question should have been, have any of the purchases really lowered your scores

Driver - Taylormade M2 2016 9.5* w/ Aldila Tour Green 65 TX
4 Wood - Titleist 917 F2 16.5 w/ Aldila Tour Blue 75 TX
Hybrid - Callaway Apex Pro 20* w/ Mitsubishi Kuro Kage X
Irons - Ping i200 w/ Project X 6.0
Wedges - Vokey SM5 52:12 & 58:08 w/S400
Putter - Odyssey White Hot Pro 7 35"

Took out 5 iron, replaced with 50 degree wedge. For some reason I have a really small gap between 6 and 5 iron, 172 vs 180. So I felt like a GW would be better utilized in my bag (the critical 125 and in yardage). Maybe I'll bend the 6 a degree stronger.

Recently replaced SW and LW with lower bounce options, and extra shaft length. Should have done that years ago, feel much more comfortable over the ball.

Everything has changed except the 4 wood, which I rarely use anyway. At one point this past spring I had 5 sets of irons, half a dozen drivers, a bunch of hybrids...trying to assemble the perfect set. I weeded through it all, sold off most of it, and I"m really happy with the kit I have now. Should be all set for the rest of the season. "Should" be...

I have not bought a new club in the last two years. I occasionally swap out a 4 iron for my 4 hybrid depending on the course I'm playing. If I'm really striking the ball well I'll play my Cobra Carbon CB Irons (5-PW) instead of my cast Taylor Mades.

I basically have 2 complete sets made up that I can play but I only swap out the irons and hybrid. My drive'rs face is starting to show wear after 3 years so that will be replaced in the fall. Wedges in the spring....

Not sure about my bag but my garage space has changed. Clearing it out. Had 20 nice sets now down to 6. Unloading all my partial sets, drivers, woods, putters etc as well.

Ping ie1s, Cf-16s, M2 tours battling it out to stay in the fold.

Kinda feels nice to not have the desire to purchase every set that fits my eye.

Only addition in the past year has been wedges. Replaced Scratch (went bankrupt) with Titleist SM6s.

New Gap, Sand and Lob wedge.

Very minimal ho-ing since having access to a Trackman. For me, there is rarely a measureable difference in modern clubs. Once I realized that, the ho-ing pretty much stopped.

Other than wedges, the only other club that changed in the last 10 years was a driver (PIng Rapture to Ping G30). Will replace irons sometime in the next several years when the 7-PW wear out.

Old stuff:
1962 Tommy Armour AT2W Driver   1953 Macgregor M65W EOM 3 wood   1978 H&B PowerBilt Citation 4 wood
1984 Ben Hogan Apex PC 2-E   1968 Wilson Dual Wedge
1964 Acushnet O-SET M6S Bullseye Putter

New stuff
Cobra ZL 10.5 driver (Matrix HD6 s-flex)  Titleist TSR2 18* fairway wood (Matrix Code-8 s-flex)   Adams A2P 20* hybrid (Rombax 8D07HB s-flex)
Titleist 716 MB irons 4-PW (Apex 4 soft-stepped)    Callaway Mack Daddy wedges 52, 56, 60 (DG S200)

Have ended up really liking them! Got them installed about two weeks ago. Agree with the ball flight comments, when I'm hitting the wedges well - lowered the flight (which I needed), slightly improved accuracy, carry about 5 yards more, spin the same as S400 did. Small improvements across the board!

Lol also...

I play driver -0.25" and my putter is also slightly counterbalanced. BeZ FrenZ?

Have also seen the additional carry in the wedges and can only attribute it to the shaft bc I didn't change heads or lofts. The flight for me is just so much better. A pro once told me wedge game is simply just hitting it to a number, don't think about anything else. The more consistent flight out of the 610s definitely allows me to do that with more confidence. The shortened driver is a no brainer, should've done it years ago. CB putter is a bit of a love hate thing right now. It definitely has me putting more consistently, but I never feel like I get hot with the putter like I used to with my old anser that is probably older than I am. Don't really miss much within 6 feet. But, today I had solid birdie chances within 15 feet on 5 of the 9 holes I played and didn't make a single one because I plowed everything through breaks, yet I hit pretty much every putt exactly on intended line. How do you find the CB?

Well I changed one club and it caused a landslide for the rest of the bag.

Picked up a TEE CB3 5 wood which made my 3W obsolete, only a 10 yard difference.

This made me look at dropping 3w, tinkering with wedge setup, dropping 3i and 4i in, trying all sorts.

Then eventually I decided to also look at getting some "new tech" in the driver. Trusty 910D2 is on the bench while an Adams XTD, R15 and a 915D3 duke it out.

First ever TM driver in the bag and there isn't the immediate love, testing the 915 later this week.

We've all got the same sickness but I've also become quite good at flipping clubs for zero loss and upgrading the bags of friends and family for free so I feel ok.

My buddy recently took up archery and spent $750 dollars on a bow. By comparison clubs are cheap, real cheap.

Dropped my driver-4wood-19*hybrid setup in favor of a driver-spoon-5wood setup. No problems, so far.
