Helping to fill that last little spot

Hey Forum.

So really happy with my bag (Shoutout to Stuart G). G30 driver, Adams 3 wood, Apexes through the whole set, fitted Edel and 50.12-55.12-60.04 wedges that i've had forever.

There is one spot I can't stick, and that is my club between my 15* three wood and my 4 iron. My 4 iron carries around 205/210. The issue is that my 3 iron right behind it isn't doing much. if I step on the 4 i can get it out as far, and it can't touch my 3 wood. Its good at punching out of the woods, but so is the 4 iron. I've tried the following clubs in that slot:

adams matching 5 wood to 3 wood (can't stop it - for whatever reason, it doesn't hold greens when i catch it)

the apex pro 3 iron with a regular DG gold TI shaft s400

apex pro non-pro 3 iron with DG gold TI shaft s400

ping 18* 3 crossover (too low ballflight, although I LOVE this club on certain courses on others its useless)

95% of the use of this club will be hitting into par 5s in two, and the remaining 5% is off the tee, so almost always off the ground. My 3 is 15*, my 4 is 21* (i think). Since i play somewhat beast shafts in my irons, my 4 goes about 205-210 and my 3 wood can get out there around 240, so its somewhat of a gap to fill (i can dial back the 3).

So, im trying to find a club/shaft/something that goes between 210 and 240 out of a wide variety of lies, gets up in the air, and stops relatively quickly. I do not need to hit low shots with it nor do i need to hit tee shots with it very often.

Any suggestions apprecaited.

I was in the exact same situation. I hit my 4 wood 230-235 off the ground (just recently switched from a 3 to a 4 and hit the 4 as far). Hit my 4 iron 200. Can't hit a 3 iron. Hybrid wouldn't hold the green. I bought a 21* vsteel 7 wood off a member here as a cheap experiment because I had tried everything else. I hit it 215, very high and very straight. I built it 1/2 inch shorter than my 4 wood and my gap is almost perfect.

And I hide it under a hybrid headcover (I tell myself because it fits well and I like the headcover...)

Obviously I would shaft the wood like a wood (I assume). For the Apex UT and the hybrids, do I want to go get fitted or just use an s400?

Thanks to all who responded! The Apex UT looks beutiful but the price is a bit steep for a club I don't know if I'll like. The 5 wood I've tried - I just couldn't make the thing stop. With the 3, its fine as I just want it long. This spot is kindof a hybrid between distance and stopping power and I can't find anything that will do both AND carry enough. My stock Apex pro 3 with the s400 is fine, I just can't get it in the air enough. Its like carrying two four irons.

Im not sure what a v-steel or a heavenwood is, but googling now. I'm not necessarily concerned about price in the aggregate, but I'm probably $400 into trying to fix this spot in the bag so another $150 for a used UT that still might not work isn't great...

A v-steel is just an older model taylormade fairway wood that was very popular. The point was to maybe try a 7 wood. I believe the heaven wood was a similar suggestion from callaway.

Both should be very cheap options to try, but any 21* fairway would that you like would be a suggestion to try.

The TM-B 2 or 3 irons are about as easy to hit as a stock 6-iron. Maybe have a look at them?

A buddy of mine has a TMB 3 with an AMT shaft I really like. Hard to find it at a decent price, though. Might just swap my current 3 iron s400 for an AMT. $170+ is a bit for a single iron.
