2017 predictions

Not sure if there is a thread already set up for this each year but as I haven't seen one what are everyone's predictions for the coming year? I do like a bit of a flutter on the majors and have done well in the past. Here's mine although they may change once I get my head into the stats.

Masters - Spieth. Bit of an obvious one but his record is incredible there.

US Open - Dustin Johnson. Long course and he has done it before so a blow up less likely now.

The Open - Tyrrell Hatton. A bit of a long shot but great on the links and an each way value bet.

USPGA - Rory. Likes the course and will want something after missing out on the first three.

What does everyone else think? Any dark horses that people are willing to share?

Your first two picks sound pretty good. Phil is my favorite player, so I'll be rooting especially hard for the U.S. Open (and Erin Hills is wide, um, open to accommodate his erratic driving). On a side note, if you're a betting man, I believe his Masters odds are 30-1, which is really good value IMO.

For a Open Championship dark horse, I'll go with Martin Kaymer. He seems due to come out of nowhere like he did at the 2014 U.S. Open.

Matsuyama and Reed seem poised to make "the leap."

Anyone but Rory!

Masters: Jordan Spieth. He plays so well there and bounces back from last years fluke

US Open: Dustin Johnson. Idk much about the course other than it's supposed to be super long. I could see any of the usual big hitters win.

Open Championship: Adam Scott. He's had some good Open performances. I'd like to see him get one.

PGA: Rickie Fowler. Won his first tournament here. It would be cool to see him win his first major at the same place.

Rory, Day, Stenson, Phil, Reed, Koepka, Bubba, Hideki, Justin Thomas and many more are good enough to win. It's tough to pick. So many good players these days and only 4 Majors

I need to see more of Hideki's putting before guessing on his major results this year. I think he'll win the FedEx Cup, but I'm not convinced yet that he's going to win a major this year with his putter that sometimes disappears.

Good shout on Phil. Although I am from the UK he is my favourite player too. He has done it before at Augusta and it favours the left hander. Depends how good he is out of the grandstands though!

I don't see Hideki winning the Masters, especially on those greens. Though I would love to see it happen.

Breakout major for Justin Thomas and/or Brooks Koepka, Rory to get one and prob DJ or Matsuyama. I put money on Thomas and Koepka where they were paying well.

Which one doesn't fit??

Haha, good young player, but that would be the darkest of darkhorses.

I think the usual suspects will rise:

Rory, DJ, JD, Reed, Jordan..one of these will get one for sure...then the others that have a great chance Justin Thomas, Hideki, Fowler, Koepka, Phil and I have to say Tiger as well, if he stays healthy and plays like he did at his tournament (without the blowup holes)...

Rory has to be licking his chops for the PGA this year, arguably the course he's had the most success at.

Masters- Jason Day. Hits it miles in the air and putts well.

US Open- Don't know Erin Hills at all so a complete guess. Will go with DJ. It appears to be a long course, and he hits it long and straight.

Open: Jordan Spieth. Comparable game to Mark O'Meara and Tom Watson who are previous winners there.

PGA- Tiger. It's at Quail Hollow, home to many Tiger victories. Prime Tiger usually played his best at the end of the year, so I'm banking on something similar.

Former professional golfer. Current amateur human being.

I don't see Hideki winning the Masters, especially on those greens. Though I would love to see it happen.

I tended to always agree about poor putters and the Masters, then Adam Scott came along.

GIR and Driving Distance have, at least statistically, proven to be more significant than any putting stat. when it comes to winning the Masters, post-'97 at least.

Spieth will avenge his loss last year and win the Masters.

Rory will dominate and win the U.S. Open.

One of these days Sergio Garcia will win a major and I think it may be his year to win the British.

Patrick Reed will win his first major at the PGA.

Pat Perez will be comeback player of the year.

Cody Gribble will be rookie of the year.

Rory McIlroy will be player of the year.
