Has anyone ever played in any of the Northeast Ohio Golf Stroke Play Tournament Series events I am thinking about playing in some, because I am craving playing some tournament golf. I missed out last year usually I try to play in the local paper tournament that holds a 36 hole then a cut then finals which is pretty awesome. Still plan on playing in that, just want to play in some good old fashioned stroke play tournaments in the area that don't cost an arm and a leg. The Golf Channel Am tour I looked into just seems really expensive. What do you guys think or know about? Might go out Saturday just don't know where to go?

soooooooooooo any exciting news from anyone? where does everyone play league?

I used to play in a league at Riverview Golf Club in the Warren area. I'm just out of college in the last year and most my buddies don't play in league so I haven't played but one year in a scratch league there.

go on neohgolf.com basically all the legit tournaments in the area are on there besides a few club championships and stuff that arent listed.

chippewa in doylestown is generally open with ok weather. played there a couple times this winter already.

I haven't played Chippewa yet that might be the course to play, I saw Oak Knoll closed I heard that course drained well. There are a ton of tournaments on that calendar now to figure out which ones to play in. That site is a gold mine.

county ams are good and reasonable cost IMO, so are the club championships but for the ones like turkeyfoot and chippewa it's going to be set up crazy firm and fast. It's fun a couple times year but I probably wouldn't want to grind like that every week. their stroke plays are good too. lot of good players in all the events

I ran the numbers for the golf channel am tour based off of last year's prices because the 2017 schedule wasnt up yet... I want to say the total cost was about 3k plus travel/hotel cost.... Really doesn't seem THAT bad

I thought about maybe just playing in one or two of the am tour, but there are plenty of stroke play tournaments in northeastern ohio were I don't feel like I would even want to compete in the golf channel ams

I just looked again... 13 events in the Cleveland area comes out to 1600 in entry fees plus 199$ for the tour sign up... I think the 3k is what I'd figured total if you threw in hotels worst case scenario

why do that when you can play in the neohgolf stuff which has 10000x better players and fields and will be cheaper. I look up those tournaments and there's like 5 people in a division.

Are the neo events flighted by handicap like the golf am events? That's really the main reason I was really even looking at the golf channels events

Nevermind... i got on to the desktop to look at NEO... problem is I suck at golf if i'm going to spend the money to play an event i'd like to at least have a small fighting chance at competing.. Scrambles are fun and all but i'd like to play a couple actual stroke play tournaments and at least with paying the almost the same price for stroke play on the golf channels tour you get flighted into similar competition..

I don't know where you are at or if you are looking for handicap events only but I know the Cleveland Metroparks runs a series and I think they are like $50 bucks it is also on the NEO website. I am not really thinking I will win, but I believe the winner of the NEO tournament series usually shoots right around par and then you have guys coming in the 90's as well. Plus you got the skins game on top of that so if you make a birdie on a tough hole you might have a chance at winning some money. I think I'm going to try to play in the one in March at Turkeyfoot Lake if I can get off work.

If par is winning then it's something I would be interested in giving a shot... Last year I got to the point of shooting mostly in the 80's.... With the WTF round of 100 rearing its ugly a** head lol... My goal last year was to break 80 and I got as close as 81 and 82 a couple of times. Problem would usually be I try not to pay attention to my score then I end up adding it up at some point then doing the math of what I have to shoot and then it all goes to hell

Does anyone know anything about John Moldovan. I might be interested in getting a lesson from him saw he uses flightscope. Anyone else you guys would recommend I just need to find someone that uses the latest technology to feed my brain and who can teach golf simply when it comes to the swing. I know I probably ask questions about an instructor at least once a year, anyone really happy with their current instructor? I would probably consider spending $100 an hour at most.

Anyone planning on heading to the Cleveland golf show?

I am working unfortunately. I saw they are including all activities and parking for free this year. I wish it would have been that way in the past.

I looked it up a little closer the winner was shooting like 2 to 3 under. You could win some money back by shooting mid 70's and there was about 4 skins paid out each time from anywhere from like $50 to $220. Winners share was like $150 to $750 depending on field size. It is all posted on that NEO website under the results tab.

Anyone planning on heading to the Cleveland golf show?

Is that "show" still an indoor garage sale?

yes basically

Sooooooooo not worth the hour drive?

It depends on why you'd want to go. If you're looking for displays for the latest similar to the PGA show you're going to be pissed you drove. If you want to grab some shoes (that are styles from four years ago) for cheap it won't be too disappointing.

The demo range , if you can call it that, was hitting into a black curtain that was 20 feet away.

There are however sometimes decent deals on the newest clubs. I scored a set of vr pro combos for $650 back in 2011 when retail was $899 and a couple years ago a friend got a 915f for $50 off.

I haven't been since 2014 so maybe it's gotten better.

For the most part it's just one of those things that I've always wanted to go to it just usually not able to get off of work because the weather is too bad and I'm stuck working... If they actually have stuff for sale for decent prices I won't be overly disappointed...would like to find some new grips and other misc. Stuff.. Not exactly looking for the newest gear to purchase

Glad I had asked the question before going... It helped keep my expectations low.. Overall it wasn't a complete bust got a pair of true linkswear protos for 30$ and some tees for a decent price but over all rather underwhelming experience.. Prices for everything else were no better than what you find online year round. The demo range is pretty disappointing stand in line get 15 balls and not enough distance to really get a feel for the launch plus most of the demo clubs look pretty beat to hell. One thing I found kind of strange is that with all the vendors there you don't have a single one with a trackman or anything offering fittings..

also according to the website all events were free including... But according to the sign next to the long putt you had to pay...

LONG PUTT CHALLENGE

This 70 foot long sidewinder requires the perfect line, speed and luck to tame. It’s got plenty of undulation and break, and is one of our most exciting competitions. A golf tournament-like crowd roar can be heard throughout the show when a putt is holed. Contestants win cash prizes based on the number of putts holed. The more you make, the more you win! Make 1 putt and win $5, 2 putts – $50, and 3 putts – $100.

FREE TO ALL ATTENDEES
