Too Much Thinking?

I'm in my confused state just before the season starts up North... Which ball to play in 2017? I played the Pro V1X the last two seasons but now it is "new and improved".

 

Starting to wonder if it really even matters as far as score goes as long as I play a multi-layer, urethane covered, tour level ball - Pro Vs, Bridgestone 330s, TM TPX5s, Callaway Chromes, Srixon Z-Stars. Will playing one of these balls over another really impact my score? My hdcp index is 4.1.

My thoughts are no, I would probably shoot the same score with any of these golf balls, but part of the fun in it for me is tinkering with new things and trying new stuff

No. At that level of ball choices, go with what gives you that feel at impact. When you catch one right and feel that feeling, you're done. Play that ball.

 

I have found that Chrome Softs and good ol PVs feel the best for me on good strikes.

Not really ..... but maybe. They all can be played to a high level, especially from a 4 capper. IMO, each ball mfg has a long ball and a spin ball in a urethane cover. Once you know what you prefer then you can play a bunch of balls.

 

B330, Srixon XV , ProV1x, TpX5 will all play very similar.

 

B330S, Srixon Z , ProV1, Chrome Soft, TP5 will also be in the same type of performance.

 

The "X" factor is the space between your ears. I know sometime a ball just looks better, or feels just a tad difference that is more pleasing to the player. That can make a big difference to some even if it's something very small, but not everyone is the same. Some guys cannot play a yellow ball even though physically there is no difference. Some guys cannot stand logos, while I don't seem to care one way or the other. I know players that even don't like what color the number is on a ball.

 

Find what makes you tick and choose that ball. They all work...... they just all may not suit your inner demons.

Balls are different altho with many crossover similarities - Chrome soft is waaaay softer than the 330s and I hit those 2 balls 15 yrds apart distance wise off the tee as a high speed player....but the same distance off the irons, chrome soft is also much lower spining around the greens.

 

Z star is the same feel as a prov1 but holds the line MUCH better in the wind

 

Kirkland signature feels similar to my tour preferred but launches 1.5 degrees higher with iron shots and spins MORE around the greens.

 

Just saying that YES they are all similar but you can definitely fine tune your game to the strengths within the genre in a way that definitely affects scoring.

Ball choice might impact the score - but find something you can live with on & around the green first.

 

You'll drive yourself crazy trying to play a ball that doesn't feel / sound right off the putter -or- makes you think you need new wedges because something isn't 'right'
