Pick one : HIO or a 60's round one time for the rest of your life. Going with 60's round.

most of you know that my "career"-best is a 68. even par front 9, followed by a (-4) back 9 that included 6 straight scores of '3' on holes 12-17. no way in hell i'd ever give that up for a HIO.

that being said, i would like a HIO, not poo-pooing that. i figure i'd spend $1K in drinks/plaques/self-purchased trophies that day, so the math makes sense.

more recap from yesterday:

I got sunburned. Golf tan will be in full effect in 24 hours. my bald head will start peeling in a week.

Rough was deep. Couple that with being soaked, it was a muscle-a-7i-or-less-as-far-as-you-can situation all day. No roll on drivers. Long a** course when those are the conditions.

The greens there, when fully healed, are the best I've ever putted, save Oakmont. No poa, few ballmarks, very quick. They, in whole, are more severe than any course not named tobacco road. Pin locations change the holes more than any other course I've played. Aiming for the middle of the green is not the correct play on many greens. They are Ross/Tillinghast greens.

Birdie of the year. #11, 467 yard par 4. Hit a B-team™ drive to the fairway, 220 yard 3w to 6 feet, made the putt.

Comment of the year: I birdied #1 and said "59 watch". Then shot 55 on the front 9. PQ says "Hey you almost made it to 59 like you said".

PQ hit it really well. I think he's right when he says he hits his 3w as far as his driver. Started rolling in some putts to bring him back from the brink on the second 18.

I got the shanks on the second 18. Noticed that my divots on par 3's were all on the toe side in relation to the tee (they were all good shots), and I drove the ball well, but I was shanking s*** from the fairway. Punchline: I'm not worried about it. Putter was good, but I wasn't getting uphill putts to the hole. greens were running quick and anything downhill was no gimmie. Messed with our heads a little bit.

The instagram video was actually a smart play. I made my hilarious comment because I'm a hilarious guy, but that's a good breakdown of how that course goes. If you hit it in the wrong place, you better think about what you're doing next. That was the smartest par (3) I've seen in a long time. A putt at the hole there is a guaranteed 4 or likely 5.

i shudder to think what he has on me.

<shudder>

It was the absolute certainty with which he responded that really brought it home. It was the hottest of hottakes.

City, and other hop heads...

Manor Hill has some stuff that is just bangin right now. The head brewer that has done the majority of the heavy lifting left today, but his beers are still in the works. They are releasing a few this weekend, and have some other offerings at the Farm about a mile from Hobbits.

And if any of you get out to an Aslin can drop, let me know. Burley and RAR are always dropping new stuff, and I'd be up for a trade. (RAR posted a pic with DFH and Burial, so there may be a 3-way colab coming from them!!!)

I just had a growler of Burley Gangsta Ale. It was great.

They also have the Burley Cocoa & Cream and Manor Hill Sixfold.

Have not had the Citra Splendor.

MD has some good stuff these days. Yes, Manor Hill. Also Oliver and Peabody Heights are crushing IPAs.

Aslin's well known stuff goes quickly when it gets canned, and I don't have the time to stand in line on a Thursday afternoon at 3. Some of their other stuff makes it to the weekend (when I get growler fills). I picked up a 4 of Johann Buys a Broat (DIPA Milkshake) this weekend. Will see what they have next time I go out there.

I'm with Fabb. If I played for another 15 years, so close to 35 in total, and never had a HIO, I wouldn't be bothered at all. I've seen 3 HIOs. I was not even that excited for those. I'm just a weird dude.

Benjamins excite me every time. Without exception.

I might have some Slip Ons from RAR available for trade, and possibly 2 Head Stash from Burley. Burley is also doing a Savage IPA release in 2 weeks, so hopefully will get some of that.Would definitely be interested in some of the hazy Aslin stuff.

Should be able to slid by Manor Hill on my trek back from Hagerstown on Sunday, hopefully. There's a place out west too, Cushwa, that has Dank Pursuit that is a hazy IPA that is supposed to be good. I have to remember I'm going for soccer, right?

you guys ever try guinness?

IT'S DELICIOUS

j5V01xY.gif

There's nothing better than drinking a guinness on a cold night, while listening to the space jam soundtrack. Literally, nothing.

Try this if you like Guinness. Pretty broadly available at most grocery and beer stores in VA, although I'm not sure what the dictator's decree... I mean... distribution... in MD is like.

Looking at the Citra Splendor and Just Hit Play this weekend from Manor Hill.

Had the reg IPA and Taylors Row a few weeks ago. Definitely bangin.

i liked the founders BB we enjoyed at lansdowne last year. will pick up a sixer, thanks for the rec.

I'll bring you another the next time. Backwoods is a once a year release around October/November, but available in larger quantities these days, and I go nuts when it comes out. I have around 14 bottles from the 2016 batch still, another 2-3 from 2015. Yes, they keep well because of the higher ABV.

Overly deep thoughts but... where is the creek at Whiskey Creek? I only noticed a pond or two on the back but no real creek. Unless it's one of those lame dry ones. Anyhoo...

I spent less than $1k to spend a weekend with the superfriends in Pinehurst during peak season last year. I'll take $1k to do that, and cherish the memory a heck of a lot more than that time I hit the ball in the hole in one shot.

This is lol bad logic

How many times have you made a HIO?

How many weekends at Pinehurst have you done with the superfriends?

I've got about 1/20th of Kent in both categories, but give me the $1k and I'm banging a pinehurst weekend 10/10 times.

You were able to afford the 1K for the Pinehurst trip without the 1K from a hole in one. So turning down the hole in one for something that you'd already do doesn't make any sense.

Looks like all is settled with Crane and Berger

http://www.golfdigest.com/story/ben-crane-settles-betting-issue-with-wdaniel-berger-after-twitter-accusation?mbid=social_facebook

<Asked if he had spoken to Gillis about it, Crane said he hadn’t.

“He wasn’t there,” he said. “He has no idea what happened. There’s no reason for me to defend myself. Daniel and I had our conversation and that was it so we’re all good.”

Both were happy to move on from it.

“We warmed up next to each other on the range this morning and had a good time,” Crane cracked. “I asked him what he wanted to play for.”>

And guess what, no call to Jesus or whatever was said

No, his twitter bio took care of that.

I'm not seeing the connection? So because his bio say he's a Christian, he would say in a press interview, 'let me talk to Jesus" about settling a gambling debt?

This doesnt hold up unless you have 0 dollars. You can give up 1000 and still have 1000 to go to Pinehurst. If I had a trip booked and had to give it up to get a HIO, I wouldnt. But cash comes and goes.
