Im surprised there isn't already a post started about the sale of TaylorMade today.

 

I'm give it a few years but I do not look for them to remain an industry leader. PE Firms care about one thing, and it isn't golf.

They just signed Rory so I'd imagine they'd be pretty sustainable for the foreseeable future... Acushnet is owned by a PE firm and I'd say they're doing ok.

Not finished. Not by any stretch of the imagination. But I'd assume there will be quite a bit of change to their business model. This is just going to be another chapter in the story of Taylormade.

obviously a little hyperbole, but they were at 800/900M the past 2 years, so yeah a billion. The hickory shafts part might have been an exaggeration.

 

I was more LMAO at the OP saying a company would spend half a billion aquiring a golf company and then running it into the ground because they dont care about golf. If anything, the company is going to be run more efficiently, which will make them more profitable (the profitability factor being the reason for the sale, not gross sales which have always been good)

No, probably not even close. The way I see it is the PE firm is the decision maker and catalyst for signing Rory, and their interest is to grow the brand. PE firms are known for buying companies and selling them for parts, but not all the time. Taylormade, and the industry they operate in, is not ripe for doing that. But, Taylormade is ripe for new direction and new management. I think this will be a big success for the Taylormade brand and for golf in general.
