Are you WRX'ers exaggerating how far you hit it?

Hit em good

9 degree sl290, stiff c kua. 220 to 230 carry and a bit of roll. But I can always find it!!! I can launch it into next week, and probably never ever find it again. I got sick of the old lady kickin my a** when I played with her, 160 down the fairway, every time. BS woman, I'm right here with you now.......:man_in_love:

Like other shave said...how many not how long. I play scratch and have some guys pound it by me by 30 yards yet I still seem to write a lower score down at the end

Driver 280 (including roll)
18* hybrid 230
20 * hybrid 215
4i 205
5i 190
6i 180
7i 167
8i 155
9i 145
PW 135
50* 110
54* 100
60* 85

I also am very rarely hitting a full iron shot from the 7 iron down...lost of knockdowns and 3/4 shots. Makes my misses less exaggerated and I seem to hit it closer to the hole.

Got to get in on this one just to see where it goes.

Driver- 290 carry

3 wood 260

18* Hybrid- 240 carry

4iron - 225

5 iron- 210

6 iron- 200

9- 160

PW- 150

52- 135

60- 115

PW - 60*..Do you hit your 60* 115 yards to a green? I won't even attempt to hit my 58* into a green from longer than 85 out or 53 any longer than 110 out due to way to too much spin. Everything between 110 and 130ish I knock down my PW.
From 110 I will pull out a full swing 58*... I actually play to that distance from time to time depending on the hole. I feel very comfortable standing 100-110 out with a 58*
So you fly your 58* 110 and it stays at 110? No way on earth I hit a full 58* 110 and it ends up at 110. I would have to fly it 125 and have it spin back to 105-110. Pure rock flight distance ball i'll still spin 15-20 yards off the green with a full 58* from the fairway.

Way too risky for me to even attempt to take a full swing with a 58* or 60* into a green from 110 or so. A groove or 2 low on the face and that ball is going 30 yards over the green. I like to live dangerously but not on the golf course!

I do and from the fairway. I've never been a player who got a ton of back spin. I still have to layoff of it a little in order for it to not spin like crazy, but, yes. From 110 I take a 58* try to land it right at the pin, hop forward and spin back... If I execute it correctly the ball ends up 3-5 feet in front of the mark. If I don't control the spin right it will be more like 10 feet in front of the mark and at that point I'm hoping im not catching a slope. That being said, if I am hitting towards a green with a false front or a tier i will layoff a different wedge and not full swing the 58. Its a rare occasion for me to get way too much spin and a more rare occasion for me to catch it thin. Most of my misses will be a pull. But thats a common theme with my entire game, not just wedges.

Now when I was playing the nonCC grooves I rarely swung the 58 full because of the amounts of spin I would get.. I really couldnt control it to put less spin on

Interesting..shows how different golf is for everybody. What shafts do you play in your wedges if you don't mind me asking? Do you use standard wedge flex shafts or do you shaft your wedges with the same shafts as your irons?

It sounds like I am the shortest hitter on this forum. I'm seeing posts about trying to hit the green from 270yds, and 230yd 3irons.
Do you guys really hit it that far? What are your real distances?

I hit it as long as the guys in my group (40-50yr olds, 8 - 15 hc's) I am a 6.8 hc, I play AP2's

Am I just a short knocker?

My approximate distances:
Driver 250
4w 220
19* hybrid 200
3i 190
4i 175
5i 165
6i 155
7i 145
8i 135
9i 125
P (47*) 115
52* 100
56* 85
I'm 37, and have the exact same yardages as you except my driver isn't as long since my normal ball flight is a cut. I get about the same as you only if I hit a draw with roll out.

I'm ALWAYS the shortest hitter amongst my regular playing partners. When I get paired up with hacks at the local muni, I'm average or above average.
+1. Pretty close to my distance. I'm a lefty and I have below average yardage. My swing has a slow tempo and I only go upto 85-90%.

I was using my D3 on a Launch Monitor this weekend... 161 ball speed was my best.. Most swing were in the 150-155 range... I hit maybe 25 balls on the LM, 5 were above 155 MPH, 1 was below 150 and I skyed it.

The LM said my carry (for the balls 150-155 MPH) was 245-250... My Spin rate was between 2200-2400 for those shots (again the 150-155 ball speed). No clue where that rolls out too but I would estimate 265 or so.

On a totally side note.. my launch angle was between 8.5* and 10*... terribly low.. I can't it up (thats what he said).... IDK what the issue is. I then hit a D2 9.5 and 10.5 (they spun like crazy for me.. like 3800)... and then hit a 10.5 D3 and it was marginally better.. maybe a half degree better launch angle. I then put on lighter shafts, heavier shafts, nothing... very consistent... very low... Clearly its my swing.. any thoughts on how to lift it?
Easiest way to hit it higher is simply move the ball a couple ball widths forward in your stance towards your front foot, make sure you stay behind the ball on the foward swing.

Hit it higher, it won't spin back as much. The ball is in the air long enough for the spin to decay.

That's what happens to me, anyway. :)

FWIW, I play several times a year with a guy who routinely hits his 60° from 100, if not a bit more (I am the laser owner in the group, so it's firsthand knowledge). The funny part is, he's not as long as me with driver, but he's a club longer with irons. Hits down on it quite a bit, de-lofts more than I do.

People on the internet can claim whatever they want. I play 3 times a week as a single and always get paired up with with random people of all types of players. I would say your average player can't hit a driver over 240. With 225 or so being the norm. I'm sure some lower handicap player can hit it farer. But your average player can't break 100. I think even all these claims on here of 280 yard drives are a stretch. Not a single person in here has confessed to only driving 230.
My SS is under is a tad under a 100 and i'm thrilled to get a carry of 230-235 as an average. I'll often net 245-260 but that isn't carry. I've been told by a teaching pro/Trackman guru that at sea level under normal conditions a SS of 95-99 is going to top out under 240 carry with even ideal launch characteristics. Anybody claiming more is challenging physics. Now, 240 carrier might end up being 239 to 285 depending upon atmoshpere, wind, ground conditions, etc. but those are independent of SS/smash factor prowess.

Exactly. I generally play a wedge middle to back of my stance... depending on a ton of factors/the trajectory I want. If I were standing in the middle of the fairway with nothing in front of me, no bunker in front and wanted to hit just a plain jane full swing 58 or 54* i would put the ball maybe a half inch back from the center of my stance.

Its weird how the golf swing works for each person. I hit my 58* 110 but my driver like 265. My buddy who I play regularly with can hit his 3 wood 265 when he tags it and his driver well past my 265 (when he tags)... yet he can't hit his 58* further than 95 yards. He has a very upright swing.. more of a slider. I have a flat swing, more of a digger. IDK how that plays a roll but it must in some way. We are equal 4i-pw.

wedge play(gap, sad, lob) distances are completely subjective to what the player is comfortable with. Anything over 9i or less I knock down and work on distance and spin control. Just personal preference and being comfortable. I can hit my 9i 165 a mile in the air and can go can go take a piss and come back before it lands but doesnt improve my score at the end of the day.

I'm 30, 6'2", 230lbs, and have severe gout.

My hands won't make a fist anymore...so I use oversized grips. I'm a very short hitter.....but seem to keep up with the long boy's as they take 2 strokes to get out of the woods after a 300 yard slice. Never take full shots with 7 iron and under....I'd say my advantage is being deadly accurate.

+1.....
I always play my wedges off of the back foot. Better control and flight....
I can hit my 60 110, but like many have said, the spin goes nuts....
Most every shot I hit would be in the 90% range, as i am more worried about flight and spin...
I found myself with quite a bit of 85 yard shots, so I toyed with a wedge, bending it and bending it to get 85 yards on a smooth swing....Turns out 63.5* was dead on for a full rhythmic swing.
All in all, I see kids hitting the ball a mile now. 3 weeks ago, I was fitting a kid, yes 14 years old, who looked to be 17-18 who had ballspeeds in the 170s. His swing never changed from swing 1 to 61. Just flat out bombs. 290 carry, with a cleveland monster....It was nuts....
Fact is, many people hit it past me, but I make my money from 130 in....and usually beat the pants off of them
As long as you have proper gappings, know your limits, and are playing the appropriate tees, you should be fine....

I can hit my driver 270 yards but i have trouble hitting my 60* past 80. How do you do that?
move it back in your stance... sorry for the thread jack
I always do that, and it goes 75-80 yards. But if I try to hit it farther, which I of course never do in actual play, it only goes higher.

Anyway I played this years first full 18 holes yesterday. Cold, at sea level and soggy fairways with no roll. 13 drives, let's see what my actual driver average was.

210 yards into the woods to the right.
250 in the right rough
265 in the fairway
260 in the left rough (choked down)
260 in the fairway
255 in the fairway
280 through the fairway into the left rough
260 in the fairway
215 in the right rough
235 in the left rough (snap hook, worst drive of the day)
240 in the left rough (choked down, aimed there)
260 in the fairway
250 in the left rough

Average 250 yards. 260 yards average on the fairway hits.

Hey chopper, what are you hitting there?
Callaway Rouge Sub Zero 9°

Dynacraft (?) 24° 4-iron
Titleist AP2 710 5-pw
Wilson FG Tour PMP 52, 56, 60°
Rife 460 Tour Blade

After how long does being "out of form" turn into "a bad golfer"?

Does anyone else hit there wedges and short irons super long but there driver not match up?

I feel certain it has to do with me wiping it and not making as efficient of a swing with the longer club, but i have also lost some flexibility since i have laid off the heavy workout days.

My superquad at 44 inches carries about 290 when i flush it, but lately, its more like 260. but my short irons are still pretty solid and im frustrated with how i have kept my distance only with the following:

7 iron 175
8 iron 162
9 iron 152
pw 143
52 138
56 125
60 115

** 4 iron carry is anywhere between 205 (high fade) to 220 when i put a slight draw on it, so this tells me my swing plane/smash factor is slipping with the longer clubs....right?????????
