  1. I was there. It was very apparent something was up. Her caddie was talking to the security. Then, the caddie and the security left the scoring tent first. A cart came. I thought she's gonna get on the cart and rode off without signing any autographs. Then, Lexi appeared and made a straight line for the kids. She stayed until everyone who wanted her autograph got one. It was relatively quiet as most of us didn't know what to say. You can see tears in her eyes, yet she was still willing to sign the autographs for the kids. Classy act by Lexi.

  3. Minus a couple of stressed-out bad putts yesterday, Lexi hasn't putted this well in quite some time. She averaged 28.3 putts over the first three days. That's 2 strokes better than her season average, which is huge. A few bad tee shots, and a few bad wedges, and it was game over. Lexi finished 3rd on the toughest course they've played this season. She managed to beat 153 other players, including the six players ranked higher than her in the World, and collected a $382,000 paycheck. She'll survive.

  4. Watched on DVR after I got home last night (late tee time), made it to Lexi's double on 11 before I had to crash. Gave in to the temptation this morning to see the final results and ... whew. That was not how I anticipated Saso would win. Another crushing major loss for Lexi. I've got Rolex as the real MVP, uninterrupted coverage is such a joy after the commercials-occasionally-interrupted-by-golf standard tournament broadcast. Saso is going to make a ton of money as a full time LPGA player.

  5. Take a small hammer and hold the face in one hand and tap the club with the hammer. First tap the sole lightly and then the face. Back and forth. You'd be surprised how much of the dent you can repair. I bought a set of Ping i210s on eBay where the 7 iron had a dent just like yours. Went for a great price because of the dent. Now if you look at my 7 iron you wouldn't even notice the dent. It's really pretty easy to repair where it will look fine.

  6. As I've said many many times...... I've yet to see Lexi walk away from any request for autographs or a selfie. Lexi has had some criticism over the years...right or wrong....Lexi will NEVER be criticized how she treats her fans. For me...this is one of the reasons why I like to attend LPGA events....it's refreshing watching how the LPGA pros treat the fans and how they make the effort to sell the tour to the fans(customers). Lexi's parents, Scott & Judy are also very nice and approachable too.

  7. So I just happened to be in the Houston area last month and stopped by the academy. @Schneeseemed to be pretty happy in his new position (kid in candy store, pinching himself LOL). Nice high tech setup with lots of bays and customers filling them. If you can't get straightened out their, you might as well drop your clubs onto (or into) the Bay.

  8. I'm way more likely to watch LPGA over PGA except for PGA majors. While broadcasting is great for giving us access. the drive for advertising dollars leads to "value-added narratives" being generated once a sport reaches a certain level of commercial success. At this point LPGA hasn't succumbed (much) to that phenomenon. And kudos btw to Rolex for bankrolling continuous coverage. I gave up watching MLB after one of the strikes and when Tony Gwynn retired. I gave up watching NFL and NBA when guys started celebrating every play they made. If I want to watch grown men behave like chil

  9. Normally, I do not want to see epic meltdowns played out over 9 or more holes when a player has a big lead. I certainly do not mind when the leader is up 5 and being conservative at a tough track, playing for par, and out of nowhere someone comes from behind with a birdie-fest back 9. In this case, and I hate to sound harsh but it is reality, I do not want to see underserving champions. Lexi did not earn it yesterday. It would have been worse to watch her stumble in 3 over par and win by 1 because everyone else chasing with momentum upwards ran out of holes. In part, this is wh

  10. Actually, there was a serious bit of misinformation regarding Lexi and a post-round interview. She did not do a post-round interview with the GC/NBC, but she did attend the media tent and answered questions there. She was very gutted, but extremely classy in the media tent.

  11. A few more nuggets: As you can imagine, most of crowd were following the last 2 groups. Moderate to no crowd for other groups. I tried to follow the last group for a bit, and it was chaotic. On the other hand, it was very pleasant to watch other groups since there weren't many people. Rough is no joke. It was tiring just to walk over the rough. I can't imagine playing out of it. Feng Shanshan is very popular and has a global appeal. She literally would take time to sign autographs and had picture taken whenever. Even after she got into her car, a fan stopped her car in the

  14. It may look awkward, but it generally gets the job done. She only hit 47 out of 72 greens this week, but still managed 3 under for the tournament. She only had 9 bogies or worse with two three-putts, so her scrambling was in the 65% range. That's more than respectable.

  15. Played the Elgin daily double this weekend. On Friday, met up with Hawkeye77 who was in town for Monte's clinic. Gotta brag on Hawkeye as he played some awfully great golf. On number 6, the first par 5 at Bowes, he hit a THREE WOOD 337 yards. He'll say it was down wind (true) and firm (also true) but he absolutely nuked that shot and quite a few more. Even more impressive was his putting. In the 5 to 15 foot range, I'm not sure that he missed a putt over the entire round. On number 2, which to me is one of the tougher par 4s on the course, he smoked a drive and then hit an iron to about 4

  18. Grinding through the 2-day stroke play this weekend was a hell of an experience. Having played so poorly recently I was on the fence but one of my buddies talked me into playing, so I said to myself that no matter what, I'd finish the whole thing out. It was HOT as possible, the greens had tons of fire in them, and everyone got to play with clouds of cicadas around them. They are now so rampant that groups of them are crawling around underneath each cup and they will land on your should and let out the little toddler goat scream. It's horrifying. Round One: I got off to a good sta

  19. I got to catch up on DVR. near the end, but was tracking it all day while running errands. Lexi...I hate to say "choked" but to me that's what it was. After her double bogey she was completely rattled. She'll come back from this, but she probably she had it locked up being up by so many strokes with just a few holes left! Congrats to the young Filipino, Yuka. She'll be a National hero for being the first major winner from the Philippines! I think she swings Rory's swing better than he does!

  20. Another big win for SE Asia! I love seeing some of these younger players (Shibuno, Patty, Yuka) or unestablished players (Popov or Hannah Green when she won KPMG) just go out and win it! No reason to need to lose it 5 times before you break through or be happy with the process, etc, etc. Re Lexi, I'm not really sure what to say. I've never been a fan of hers and probably specifically don't like her if you put a gun to my head, but I've also never wished for pain and suffering for these people that are in the public spotlight. I am glad that she signed for the fans and did compl

  21. Congrats to Patrick, but there's definitely a dark cloud over the finish of this tournament. John Rahm's situation shows how silly and absurd the past 15 months have been. He's not sick, is exhibiting no symptoms, and is clearly in good health having walked ~9 miles while running away from the rest of the field in this golf tournament. While the PGA had rules in place that were followed, I don't think these asinine rules are above criticism. The fact that a perfectly healthy athlete is forced to withdraw 3/4 of the way through and lose their essentially locked in ~$1.7

  22. The reference to Naomi Osaka is based on falsehoods. 1. Osaka tweeted an apology to the press after her withdrawal from the French Open, noting the the press had always treated her kindly. 2. Osaka has allowed the idea that she is an American citizen to falsely continue and the press is incompetent, not fact checking, but simply assuming she is an America. Osaka is Haitian and Japanese, living in the US as an immigrant with a green card. At age 19, she was required to either forsake any other citizenship, or give up her Japanese citizenship. She stated that

Let’s talk about something important. Let’s talk about something important. Put that Cameron down. Cameron is for closers only. Oh, have I got your attention now? 24. She does not speak fluent Japanese. She could barely field a question in Japanese yesterday. And, I do not believe that she grew up in Japan either. Speaking to a friend of Yuka's it seems that she spent most of her time living in the Philippines playing golf at Canlubang Golf and Country Club. Anyway, here is a photo of her proudly repping the Philippines. 20180800_asian-games_golf_yuka-saso-psc-pool.webp

  28. I agree with several things that others have said. First, the Tour has encouraged this behavior (by both fans and players) for some time now. I personally don't subscribe to the "any publicity is good publicity" mantra. A large bit o fit comes off as classless. Secondly, having a microphone thrust into your face seems super prevalent now. Before rounds, after rounds, on the range, after a loss, after a win, etc. And to an equal extent the social media posting. I don't think these guys can really afford to have a personality or be a human (faults and all) out there

  29. I couldn't let this go simply bec by next year I have a very strong inkling Yuka will represent Japan (heck maybe even after the Olympics)... so the Philippines is "on borrowed" time with Yuka... But, it is what it is... Can't blame Yuka - Japan is the better more logical choice. For now the Philippines has one major winner in professional golf. I'll take it ☺︎ You guys know more about citizenship etc in Japan, but again, it just makes sense for her to "turn Japanese"! I really think so!

  30. I would like to think the "team" thing is overrated, but is it? Pretty simple history. Big Country with lots of great golfers beat up on tiny island with a few good golfers for 50 years. Tiny island won 3 times out of 22. Jack got bored and suggested the rest of Europe join up or the Ryder Cup is dead. U.S. still shellacked Europe the next two RC's because there really wasn't anyone that great coming from Europe. And then it all changed around. A lot more talent came up from Europe, even GB got better and it became competitive....Europe, with its rise i

  31. OK, I am not good at golf at this particular time. I seem to be shooting high 70's and sometimes a person can shoot a 78 and think, that could have been a 72, or the other way, an 84. Well, there is no doubt the 78 is a 78. The GIRs aren't tight to the pin, the chips aren't either. It's just my game right now. Or if I do stuff it, its for par or worse. Disappointing to say the least. I don't play a lot of scrambles, but when I do, its with my wife. It takes pressure off of her, and we rarely win, but when we do its an amazing thing. This Friday was one of those days. If I

  33. Mildly surprised this thread is still going, but I suppose I shouldn't be. Dipping my toe in the waters as I access the snark.... The Pro V1/Pro V1X is/are the biggest scam perpetrated on the golf public. It's not that good. Cameron putters are the second biggest scam of the golf public. It's one thing to copy popular designs, it's completely another to be pompous about doing so Titleist is a cult. I feel a bit better. Moving forward.... Grooves don't cause spin. Enough with the groove sharpening crap. Worrying about who forged

  34. Yep true-- I bet if Rahm had played the last round with that lead the views would have been down on TV. I was watching live when the officials let him know. As soon as they released a " statement" I called BS on the whole deal. Never watched yesterday-- The Champions was on and I was pulling hard for old Lumpy Herron anyhow. Watched it and then watched the Ladies US Open. I will say toungue in cheek Lexi and Lumpy flat blew it in the last rounds.

  36. IMO, she's one of the most naturally talented players we've seen in recent times. The fact that she can keep a ball on the planet with her swing is amazing (she's falling over half the time?). To me, she's one of the really really good players that never works on their weakness though. When on, she can still dominate a tournament or a few weeks stretch. But eventually the holes in her game keep her from reaching the next level.

  38. Yep, representing the Philippines. As a child with a Japanese parent, she gets Japanese nationality until she's 22 (IIRC, it used to be only for children with Japanese fathers if born outside Japan, but the law was changed). Then she has to choose, as Japan does not recognise dual nationality. In fact, the law is due to change next year, so children with dual nationalities will have to make their choice at 18, deferred for 2 years until they are 20. However, for international competitions, she already had to choose which side to represent, and she chose The Philippines. A sim

I have ZX-5 in 5i and 6i but not because I believe it to be any more forgiving. Rather, the ZX5 are a touch stronger lofted and produce a touch less spin. That combination worked out better for my yardage gaps. I demo'd ZX7 extensively with Modus 120-S. I like that shaft (120) on full swings but it simply doesn't feel quite right to me on partial/knock down type shots. However, on full swings, the ZX7 feels fantastic with Modus 120 and launch/s

  45. As DP4 said, HOE on Saturday. Hot and windy, but admittedly the wind helped make the heat more tolerable. Course definitely was more firm than seen in years past, more of a brownish hue than before. Course was in fine shape, greens perhaps a bit more bumpy than I'm used to them being, but they ran nicely. Pretty quick but I found them to be consistent, I think being into or down wind played into it quite a bit. On the par 3 5th I hit a punch 5i that landed 10 ft short of the pin in the dead center of the green, and instead of a decent look at birdie as expected it just kept rolling out and cau

  47. Rain off and on here today so I watched the US Women's Open. It's June 2021; the PGA Tour should have dropped their Covid Protocol months ago. I totally disagree with all the talking heads. I'm not a fan of Jon Rahm but what they did to him was unconscionable and there is simply no excuse for it IMO. Look at the fans. They are not social distancing. Who even cares about social distancing anymore? Are they saying Jon Rahm was a danger to someone? Who?? He is asymptomatic. The PGA Tour PTB are asleep at the switch. I hope Jon wins the US Open by 6 shots....
