  1. Well, I'm mystified. I tried it on the course one more time since my last post and the ball flew straight right, but almost felt like it was off the toe rather than the hosel. Then, when it was raining the other day, I took it and my old driving iron (PXG 0311x) and the hybrid I hate (Ping G400) to the indoor launch monitor down the road. You know what comes next. In spite of not making any allowance for length by gripping down, I didn't hit a single shot (out of dozens) off the hosel or toe. A few thin or hooky, but that's just me. Off the deck it was noticeably more consistent than either th
  2. Just a follow up. I ended up buying the recommended F9, initially with the stock Helium shaft. Good drives were about the same as good drives with my G410, which was about the same as my Fusion etc etc. But a bunch more than I'd like leaked right instead of my usual slight draw. So I added the recommended shaft (Accra i42). I'm not normally a massive shaft believer since my numbers (on Trackman) are fairly consistent whatever I hit. But in terms of dispersion the i42 certainly seems to suit me better than the Helium. A few misses left but none right, which is fine with me as I prefer a one wa
  3. I recently picked up a GAPR Mid 4 (21*) for a very good price. I'm normally a reasonably good driving iron player and have had good results with Ping Crossovers (except for the sound) and my current PXG 0311x (flight a little low). Whilst I have hit a couple of great shots with the GAPR Mid, all too often I am either shanking it straight right, or hitting off the toe straight right. Anyone else have similar results? I'm wondering if the extra length of GAPRs is the issue. It is 1" longer than my PXG of equivalent loft, and about the same as my Ping 19* hybrid. I'm trying to decide whether to c
  4. +1. In years of trying to find the perfect hybrid I haven't found one that goes consistently longer without losing what makes it a hybrid. If you want something that does go longer, and yet is just as easy to hit, save a bunch of money and get a Cobra F6 Baffler. It has the shaft length of a hybrid and the head of a 4-5 wood. I hate hybrids and can't hit fairway woods. but I can hit the F6 baffler. Best club Cobra has ever made. Do a search for the rave thread here.
  5. A few years back, I took advantage of a special offer from Australia's premier club outfit and had a driver fitting. Now that I am old and decrepit my swing is increasingly sluggish, but it is (apparently) very efficient. Their recommendation was to keep my then current driver (Callaway GBB), but change shafts. And they had numbers to back it up. Of course, being a Golfwrx ho, I did nothing of the sort. Cut to a dozen or so drivers later. The same place is currently having a similar special offer, so I went back in today and had another fitting. My current driver is a Ping G410. This time the
  6. Assuming you were fitted at the same place I was (see my post above) they are attempting to take advantage. I was fitted into a Cobra F9 driver which is currently $449 AUD from most dealers, including stock shaft. Their quote was $670 for the head plus $225. As for the overall results, if a hybrid is outperforming four fitted drivers I would buy nothing until the lessons bear fruit. Your swing will change so much the fitting is pointless. If you went back tomorrow, I'd be willing to bet the results would be completely different. If you want to try a driver in the meantime, get a cheap popular
  7. Original poster back again. I tried to cheat on my Fusion with a Ping G400, a PXG 0811XF and then a Taylormade M4. None of them were any better on the course or on the monitor. And none of them sounded, felt or looked as good. So I sold them and bought yet another Fusion. Best driver since the R7 Superquad.
  8. I did a Sharpie lie test for the whole set a while back and the evil 8 iron was the same as the others. I have them all a bit flat, with mid-size Align grips, to try and stop my previous pull/hook miss and it has worked. Bad swings aside, I no longer fear the left side of the course. Unfortunately, due to advancing years and an increasingly slothful swing I can no longer hit driver wedge/9 iron at my home course. Now the 8 iron is my 150ish club so it is kind of hard to aboid it. I’ll have it checked and maybe try it a few degrees upright. Failing that, I’m considering a ritual burning or
  9. I play a blended set of PXG irons (0311 and 0311XF). And generally love them. I hit the GW, PW and 9 iron mostly dead straight. They fill me with confidence. I hit the 7 iron, 6 iron, 5 iron, and 4 iron less well, but also mostly straight or with a draw (my natural shot). The 8 iron, however, invariably goes right and often fades too. The lie is the same (I think) for all of them. Does anyone else have one club in a set that is just evil? Should I adjust the lie on the 8 iron to be more upright to make it go less right? The evil 8 iron cost me 4 shots today, and it is getting annoying.
  10. I went back to my old Callaway Fusion. Much better sound and feel.
  11. You chose wisely You mean I rechose wisely. :) The driver arrived today and I took it to the range and to a launch monitor. Suffice it to say it has knocked the G400 Max and the PXG XF out for tomorrow's round.
  12. Like everyone else I love the TXG videos, but I can't really see how Matt's swing relates to anyone except Matt. Obviously his head speed is beyond most, but his AOA, swing path, spin etc etc are also unique to him. It's nice to know that he hit the F9 a long way, and that tweaking the shaft made him more consistent, but I fail to see how that is applicable to anyone else. In reality his speed and funky swing are far less useful than their other testers.
  13. I’m the thread starter and have to confess to straying. I abandoned my Fusion for a G400 Max, then a PXG XF. My driving has got worse. So I spied a Fusion with my preferred shaft (Matrix Xcon6) on CPO for $100. Had to hit buy.
  14. Depends on your swing speed and ball striking. Judging by your numbers your driver swing speed is a tad higher than mine, so you hit everything a bit further down to the 4 iron. When you reach your irons this changes. I hit my 4 iron further than you, and all the clubs below. The gaps increase the further down you go. For example a full 54 is my 100 -110 club. Irons (when swinging well) are a strength of my game. Hybrids and woods less so.
  15. Is the XF still unavailable for the discount program? It was on the site but I’m not sure if it is when you phone them.
  16. A while back I started a thread about my positive results with the unfairly maligned Callaway Fusion driver. So why not try out an even more maligned beast? A Gen 1 PXG. In the loathed XF variant to boot. Intrigued by all the chatter about the new PXG Gen 2 drivers, I picked up a Gen 1 XF head on eBay for $200 or so with the intention of doing a shootout against the adored Ping G400 Max. Received wisdom has the PXG pegged as a high spin distance-challenged hook machine with no redeeming features except for ‘nice feel’. Well, I beg to differ. I installed a PXG tip on a spare Hzrdus Bl
  17. Maybe try DD? Exactly! DD should be able to solve that issue. Nope, they will not ship PXG to Canada. Just use a mail forwarder like MyUS.com
  18. Does anyone actually have numbers for the old XF versus the new one?
  19. if you have trouble hitting one version of ‘players irons’ why are you looking for another? Try some GI irons like TM790 or PXG 0311
  20. Do you need a ‘high launch’ shaft with the XF? If buying blind I’d go for the Fuji Pro 63.
  21. Anyone know what the no-upcharge shafts are?
  22. I was the original poster on the big Fusion thread. I’ve moved to. g400 Max, although I’m not convinced it is a real improvement. For me, the stock shafts were what gave the Fusion the rep as a high spin old folks driver. I alternate between a Matrix Xcon 6 (which can be found very cheap) and a Hzrdus Black. The Matrix is longer, the Hzrdus straighter. I also had good results with a Graphite Design G60.
