  1. They usually discourage walking on Sat/Sun because every tee time is booked, but I’ve seen plenty of walkers Mon-Thurs when the course is wide open.
  2. Yeah I was referring to the actual river, used to be a great kayak fishing river but it’s gone downhill. Thornapple Creek was the course in Kalamazoo that closed, very sad, it was a quirky fun layout.
  3. Thornapple Creek. But they should shut down the Thornapple River in Hastings, it’s a shitshow nowadays ?
  4. Bummer you got stuck playing the one rainy day we’ve had out here! The course has been playing so fast and firm, but honestly you probably didn’t miss much in terms of green speeds; surprisingly they haven’t been running that fast even during dry spells. I think they’ve been keeping them a tad shaggier to keep the greens healthy during the hot dry spells. Hope you had fun!
  5. Hemlock. Not exactly a beginners course but hands down the best bang for your buck.
  6. Numbered by hole: 1. If you can hit a driver 300, hit it on hole 1. Straight down the fairway. Otherwise just hit a hybrid. Easy hole. Don't try a links-style bump and run on your approach because the fairway will likely be too shaggy and it won't roll out. This green always seems to be fast as hell so hit your approach super high and stick it. 2. Play it left of the hole, always. Doesn't matter where the pin is, everything funnels right and if you're long you'll ride the hill and go right anyway. 3. Hit your approach high. Tough green to hold. The fairway connects with another hole on the r
  7. You will have a good time. Stoatin is playing fast and firm right now. I made a post in the Stoatin thread going hole by hole, if you’ve never played it and you’re teeing up in competition if may be worth reading.
  8. Sorry to hear about your experience at Bedford; sadly I can easily believe that story. Bedford is unfortunately the worse “policed” out of all of them. You’ll regularly get stuck behind 5-somes of members that won’t let you through. It’s so frustrating because it’s actually a phenomenal course, and the conditioning right now is fantastic. Many championships have been held there for good reason, it’s a monster from the tips and a fun course. Wish the rangers were more active about the pacing though. I actually have the East as dead last strictly based on conditions. It’s a fun and weird layout
  9. The East over Bedford Valley?!?! I don’t even want to know what happened between you and Bedford in the past to make that kind of ranking ? The East is by far dead last on my list.
  10. Quick update on the course conditions: Stoatin is playing absolute perfect right now. It’s hard, sun baked, and challenging. It is finally playing like a links course instead of a GLV course without trees. Weekend golfers may get frustrated with the current conditions, but I truly hope they keep it this way. I think the course benefits from under watering, and experienced golfers will appreciate the challenge. The greens are very firm and difficult to hold at the moment, placing extra emphasis on thoughtful approach shots in order to score well. The greens are finally rolling true after being
  11. FYI Kitchen House has 2 new restaurants across from GLV now. One is open and one will be soon. The one that’s open is called Chicken House (it’s the old Ice House Ice Cream Shop) and they’re serving fried chicken, burgers, and ice cream. It’s excellent btw, top notch local fair. The South Kitchen is still under construction but should be done soon. This should provide some other sources of great food within walking distance of the GLV Villas.
  12. Got a round in today, absolutely gorgeous weather. My frustration with not being able to ice fish quickly vanished after my first tee shot. Didnt expect to be able to break in my new Xmas present the day after the holiday, but I might be in love with the Gapr 2i.

Seller messages me and says something like “wow I didn’t expect that to sell so fast”. Now, it’s waaay past the expected delivery date and the seller hasn’t

  15. Played some links golf in Ireland yesterday, absolutely perfect weather. Here for business but managed to take advantage of a rainless late October Irish afternoon. Very cool experience for a Michigan golfer. The strange follow-through is due to my attempt to hit stingers off the tee all day :) When In Rome...errrr Ireland.
