  1. Heading there the end of this month for guys vacation. Could use a 4th Danny!!! Great to have had the time to log back into the Wrx. Have missed this place! We are staying for three nights and playing a lot of golf while there. Black will be closed for aerification so doubling up on Red and Blue. Already made dinner reservations so am really hoping we end up making some memories. Will try to come back in here afterwards and perhaps post some thoughts. Again great to be posting again on the Wrx... Med
  2. I love spring and summer. Prices go down here in Florida because the "snowbirds" head home. The courses are far less crowded. Doesn't take as long to warm up or to play a full round. I can head out after work and easily get 18 in. The ball seems to go further. The roads to get to distant courses are less crowded. The resorts have great stay and play deals. I am a member at a local range that is lit and is an amazing practice facility. It fills in for me when the course are too crowded and they cost twice as much. But, like I said, I love spring and summer. Favorite day of the year is June 21 - obvious reasons...
  3. Thanks for sharing! Really interesting and not at all what I expected in opening this thread. Guess it might also lead to more questions. How did the clubs originally get their "names"? Where did "par" come from? And the other scoring terms? More terms probably also have an interesting history - fairway, tee box and tee, "shooting a score". This could become an interesting thread!
  4. Wow - 5 year old thread comes back to life!
  5. OP still dark. One relatively low post member sort of rises a little to the defense. Again this happens every single time. The OP came in hoping to get some sort of satisfaction exposing his own impatience. He went up against a long-respected member who is also a long term sponsor. (Never good) In the end the sponsor's side of things is reasonable. And then, as all of the dust settles and the popcorn is being vacuumed up a few last replies and the thread either gets locked up, dies a slow lingering death of being ignored or some combination therein. I really hope that the Mods, as someone else said already, opt to edit the title. Will doesn't deserve for any online search to show this thread as an optional open.
  6. Well this one was fairly predictable. Brand new member comes in and with his first post attacks a long standing and veteran member. A few other members jump on the attack train but most either remain neutral or rise to the defense of the veteran member. Veteran member comes to the thread and tell the whole story and not just an agenda driven portion. The new member goes dark and as often as not is never seen nor heard from again. Veteran member actually gains business because they showed just how honorable they are and why they are so respected. Those few who joined the attack wonder off to other threads to see if more pile on fun can be found. Kudos to WP for coming in and taking the time to set the record straight. I'd do business with him in a heartbeat. As for the OP, odds are he's still coming in anonymously to see what's being said but he won't post in this thread again. Like I said, these sorts of threads are really predictable....
  7. Received mine in under a week. Fit nicely, seem well made and a range session shows that they are able to maintain grip even when wet with sweat. Overall I was impressed enough with first order that I went ahead and placed another to tide me through the busy summer. Added some of the Kirkland balls to this order also - should be a fun experiment with those.
  8. They finally started injecting some money into the course and it is recovering nicely. Still a little ways to go but you have to realize - at one point not long ago it was closed. No maintenance going on during that period. I played it right before it closed and it was pathetic. Grass growing in the bunkers (weeds actually), no grass on the tee boxes, weeds everywhere, the greens were all torn up and were basically just dirt. You can't expect a course to recover overnight but it's nice to know they didn't just close it. I would wager that by summer, with some rain in the spring, it will be about 90% there and it's already worth a visit again. There's another hidden jewel in the area BTW. Bella Colina is about an hour away and is nothing short of amazing. A little pricey but worth every penny!!!
  9. Been to Valspar, The Players, Bay Hill and Disney back when they played there. Have learned quite a bit. 1. Stay both the night before and the night after you attend unless you live really close. Less stress knowing you are already "in town" for the event. 2. When you arrive wonder the course a bit. Scout out areas where you might want to sit. At Sawgrass we were there for two days. The first we spent almost the whole day at 17. We wondered a little and scouted. And found that the back of 11 was REALLY amazing. Seeing the players going for it in two and at times failing - just an incredible place to sit, relax with a beer and enjoy. 3. Be sure to try out the games. At Sawgrass I won a sleeve of Tour 330's in a fun chipping contest. At Valspar I got a free beer. 4. Follow some of the lessor known players. While a bazillion folks are trying to get a peak at Phil I was able to follow a couple of tour rookies and they were actually chatting with the crowd a bit. And when I made a comment about "nice shot" to one of them he smiled, said thanks and proceeded to go onto his tap in bird. 5. Find a fun par 3 to hang out for a bit. It is amazing to see them spin the ball from like 160. At Disney it was astounding how easy they made the 6th at The Mag look! 6. Finally, make some amazing memories and enjoy. You are there. Lots of others would love to be. Don't lose sight of that no matter how hot it might be, how expensive the food might be or how long the lines. All a matter of perspective OP. ENJOY!!!!!
  10. Tiger refers to Poulter as "Polts". I have always gotten the impression that they had a mutual respect for each other. Any American player who does not respect what Ian does in Ryder Cup play is delusional. The man is intense and Tiger definitely appreciates that level of passion for the game. And Ian knows what Tiger did (and is still doing!!!) for the game. I believe that the congrats was as genuine as it possibly could have been. Sort of a "welcome back Mate" from a Euro player who is intense towards THE American player who has the same level of intensity when competing.
  11. Late to the party but the dance still going on... Just ordered mine. Really looking forward to trying them out. For the price, worst case they are range gloves as others have stated. And considering I recently paid $20 for one "Like New" glove off of the bay that arrived in its original packaging but was completely dry rotted beyond use - this is a real bargain!
  12. I want to play Sawgrass. That's it. My one and only. Not even going to try to get there until and unless I get my game back on track enough to really enjoy it. (Getting closer with each range session!) Sadly I actually had a chance to play there about 10 years ago - was invited by our pension team. They had a slot open and it would have been free. But I was under contract with DHS to travel up to Ohio to do a "Response To Terrorism" lecture. I tried everything to get someone else to cover that lecture...no dice. And to top everything off I ended up with food poisoning and was miserable on the flight back.
  13. My one and only "ace".... Executive course and the first hole was a temp green. Had been for quite some time and since my wife and I were members of this executive course with a nice range, I was a little frustrated to see that it was still a temp green. (Had been all summer) So it's playing like only 50 yards or so. I drop my ball on the ground and, with no practice swing or even lining up, I take my lob wedge and just pop the ball figuring I will just get past this hole and enjoy the others. Ball takes one hop and flops right into the hole. I wasn't even going to consider this an ace but I asked here some years back and the other members basically said it was. I have had a lot of near misses but that's the only one. Not exactly bragging rights.....
  14. But... have you checked out the Revolution Golf!?!?!? And there's free shipping if you buy from RG! And 20% trade in promo when you can easily find 50% elsewhere! I'm gonna cancel mine too. I'll probably sign up again once they realize the mistake and give out 5 dozen tp5s for signups That's the only bright side about all of this. They accidentally shipped me a lot of TM golf balls.
  15. I will take any big bird - no matter how ugly or lucky. But OP you missed out posting the follow-up poll: Ok, so you got lucky and holed out an eagle. On the next hole you: 1. Make a nice solid par to hang onto those two under for at least one additional hole. 2. Follow it with a birdie - yes! Three under in two holes!!! 3. Give one stroke back. But hey, for two holes you are still one under. 4. Give both back - in a nice double that brings you back to reality. 5. Give them both back plus some - and walk off of the next green shaking your head and muttering to yourself profane words that cannot be shared here. As for me? Odds would be good I would give them back not long after I got them.
  16. She had a tough year during her freshman year at Wake Forest. Coach didn't seem to grasp the importance of letting an injury heal completely. She is in a groove as a lady gator and has been shooting low rounds since coming "home". Her dad, Brent, will be on the bag during the tourney. I told him to "sneak" me a text image if there's an opening and it won't get him into hot water. Perhaps from the range or something. (If he does I will post it into this thread) But she has actually changed her swing since I played that round with her. She used to hit a little baby draw and now, from the videos I have seen, she is favoring a fade. As for the question about the tees they will be playing, no chance it would be the back tees. I am sure they are protecting them from any divots. But if I was a betting man I'd wager they will be playing at least close to mid 6000's. It will be great seeing some future LPGA stars playing that amazing track and watching my good friend realizing a dream carrying his little girl's bag in a huge televised tourney. Brent and I have talked about this for like 15 years! I am beyond thrilled for the both of them!!!
  17. I literally just received an email this morning advising me that my "GolfNow VIP is now Golfpass!" No thanks. I think I will let it run it's course until the expiration and then move on. Just not quite sure anyone there is really all that concerned about customer retention. They put a bunch of crap into the "membership" that no one asked for, remove the things every single member enjoyed, increase the annual fee and then tell you about the changes after they have been made and lie about what their reps previously stated. Time to exercise other options....
  18. At my age no way can I even hope to combine all three. I can choose two of the three. (maybe) Or perhaps double up on one. But my health insurance simply does not cover such self-indulgence. The potentials of a catastrophic failure are just WAY too high....
  19. Let me show ya something...... : ) As for the name change, around here Medic or Jim either one will do just fine. Thanks again all for the kind wishes. Man it's good to see my online buddies still around this place!!!
  20. All I know is that I am going to miss you OP. Now way a multi-millionaire will take the time to still come in here and share war stories of golf and such. But on the bright side I would wager you will remember your buddies here and I will look forward to getting a care package of 6 dozen TP-5 balls, a new set of irons and a certificate to play TPC Sawgrass. : )
  21. Sierra Brooks' dad is a good friend of mine and I have known her since she was like 6 years old. I played in a tourney with her when she was 14 and she rarely missed a putt within 10 feet and hit the ball 250 off of the tee. And now she gets to play AN! Wow!!!! https://www.golfchannel.com/video/augusta-national-womens-amateur-sierra-brooks-excited Trust me, fellas - this little girl is one to watch. Well grounded to - Mom and Dad did an awesome job raising her. She's played all over the world but is still the same as when I first met her. If she ever makes the LPGA I will be there, behind the ropes, watching the dream continue to be realized. But she is playing arguably the most famous golf course in the US and one of the most famous in the world. Like I said...wow!
  22. The $99 renewal is no more. Incredible. And so I called in to ask about it - told them I was "grandfathered in" and he said "No, it was just for one more year." So now GN is not only changing the terms of engagement midstream but they have resorted to outright lying. I know what I was told, multiple times, when I signed up. And it wasn't $199. And when I pointed out the restrictions and how I CANNOT take off in the middle of the week his response was classic. "Sir, just take a vacation day and enjoy some cheap golf." Naw, I think I will just use GN to find course prices, call the course directly and toss them to the floor. What was once an awesome website has become a total mess. I simply don't play enough golf to justify "saving the booking fees" and those coupons are worthless to me.
  23. I hate the sellers who completely misrepresent what they are selling. Period. Just tell the truth. Average condition? No!!! Just say "Beat all to heck and embarrassing in the bag." Like new? Probably not. No such thing. There is new. And there is no longer new. Like new is an excuse to try to say that it is last year's model barely used and you don't want it anymore. Mint? Oh give me a break. When I find something that is truly mint I save that seller's ID and they become my new bestie on eBay. Sorry buy my idea of mint isn't faded (balls), marked in sweet spot or anything else that indicates that human hands ever touched it.
  24. I thought they had to be in order to fill up the whole screen on my incredibly large screened TV.....
  25. Going to be a fun watch for sure. Still miss Arnie of course. Back in the day Bay Hill had amazing stay and play deals. I played there several times like 25 years ago. I can remember taking the "Gamez challenge" taking out a 7 and trying to hit the same shot he did in 90. (Never even close) If I was going to place some money on anyone this year I would probably bet on Fowler. Will definitely be watching!
