  1. TN does not have any golf restrictions on play, so presumably a team could practice all season, and teams could play matches vs one another. However, most kids play a winter sport and the main golf tournament schedule is over for the most part. Hurricane may blow through and their are some local course options. Most of my kids start back in the spring, but also play another spring sport. An aside - TSSAA recommends how matches should format, but they do not dictate it. You could play any number of players and type of competition If you had the time and an open course. We've done stroke, match, "Ryder" etc.
  2. That's a bit of a stretch.. "I've seen some of the press this morning which has made a bit too much of the incident in yesterday's race of when to pit. It isn't true to say I'm furious with my team," he wrote. "As a team we work hard to build the best strategy possible but at the race progresses you have to make split decisions there are so many factors constantly changing. "Yesterday we took the risk to stay out hoping it would dry, it didn't. I wanted to risk it and try and go to the end, but it was my call to stay out and it didn't work. In the end we did pit and it was the safest thing to do. "We live and we learn. We win and we lose as a team. Don't ever expect me to be all polite and calm on the radio when I'm racing, we are all very passionate and in the heat of the moment that passion can come out, as it does for all drivers. "My heart and spirit are out there on the track, it's the fire in me that's got me this far but any angst is quickly forgotten and we talked it through, already looking ahead to the next race. Today's another day to rise and as a team. Still we rise."
  3. When did he whine? Great race this week. Just enough rain kept it interesting. Chapeau to Ocon! Zero stops and finished in the points...
  4. When will you be taking applications? Asking for a friend.
  5. Yeah, he is sitting in a great position even if his lap times were slower than the merc/Lewis on inters. I also think he will struggle vs slicks. This may come down to how long he can keep Lewis behind him and pit strategy. Going to be a great race.
  6. Boom! Done. Franklin TN - Cool Springs Yes, kinda.. Irons, thinking of going VL after OL for 4 years.
  7. Go back and read... I knew that I should have stayed out of this specific area of WRX.. I'm going to kick the can elsewhere
  8. Ha. I've done it, and will do it again. I highly doubt that you could decipher every scenario pertaining to this situation in coaching. You said this to support your personal belief and to keep puffing wind in Gsea's sails.
  9. Yes essentially. Easy but stressful. I feel for the JV players who are essentially just a practice squad. I want to give them a better experience, which I try to do, but ultimately it will never replace real competition and feeling like you are getting something for your effort. It's a delicate balance because this kids will age in so I want to build and I do not want to loose them.
  10. I don't cut, or better to say, my schools athletic program does not cut. I have a couple seniors who are considered JV, but our division does not have an organized JV program. So they really only get intrasquad play. I try to rotate them into a Varsity match, but that does not happen a lot. They do have the opportunity to score low enough to make the Varsity roster at any point throughout the season. My current Varsity Team is 3 Seniors, 1 Junior and 1 Sophomore, and there are 3 Seniors on the "JV" team...
  11. These are fire! I'm tempted, but it would mean me coming out of the OL coma.
  12. Not every team player needs to be liked, by the team or by the fans. Most of the best teams in history had 1 or 2 villains, and in other contemporary sports there are a lot of disliked athletes, often revered for it. Reed may not have earned it this year, but he still could have been picked, yet many here feel our lustrous RC team needs to have a kumbaya vibe. No wonder our efforts are the way they are...
  13. I am not reading this thread - and I know I am watching the nightly broadcast, but they just mentioned the outcome of the hole and cut to a commercial before the hole was finished! Did they do this during the day broadcast?
  14. Same. 0 thoughts of changing anytime soon. It is a great shape and just feels good in the hands.
  15. Eagle Eagle! Bryson is killing this course!
  16. Varner is showing the sweat!
  17. Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger, no Coke, Pepsi!
  18. I like McCord. Thank god he doesn't just describe the golf shot I am already watching on TV.. Years ago, I was up late, in and out of sleep actually, and some golf help show came on. I was one of those old shows to produced to fill air when the only other option was an actual tournament. They were talking with Gary and he was giving short game lessons. My memory is fuzzy but he began to discuss obstacles and how to play them - describing a sprinkler head and said you could actually use it to your advantage. He said to pitch it up in the air and let the ball bounce off the sprinkler head and onto the green. So without much hesitation, he steps up and hits about a 15ft shot to said sprinkler head which then bounced the ball high and out onto the green which rolls to about 2ft of the pin! Cool stache, cool guy...
  19. I like to set my 5 boys and 3 girls by the end of pre-season. They will see the lions share of the competition in-season but I will try to get the others some experience. Unless someone drops off the map performance wise or one of the JV finds something new, my varsity teams are good to go. I create pressure challenges once a week, so there is a chance for some movement but it's rare. We are capped at 14 total matches/tournaments during the season, so there is not much time to have pre-tournament qualifiers. I do keep season stats, but that for things.
  20. Exactly - there is no easy solution to your question, often it solves itself via experience/growth. The worst thing you can do is fill her head with multitudes of what you think she should do.
