  1. Going back to 3 hybrid after playing 5 wood the last several years. I’ve got two of them, Ping G400 19° and Callaway Mavrik Pro 20°.
  2. Ten club Ping bag got out for some fresh air today. Been raining all week here, so these still are my go to for soft conditions. G400 driver is still a beast. Not sure why I don’t play it all the time. Driver: Ping G400 10.5° Elements Chrome 6F4 Hybrids: Ping G400 19° 3Hy & 22° 4Hy Aldila NV 2KXV Green 85H Irons: Ping i200 7i-UW AWT 2.0 Wedge: Ping Glide 2.0 Stealth 56/12 SS Putter: Odyssey Stroke Lab Double Wide CS 34”
  3. Same idea here for my Srixon combo set, with 19° and 22° Hybrids. ZU85 4U 23° Steelfiber i95 Z585 6i-7i 27-31° Modus 105 Z785 8i-AW 36-41-46-51° Modus 120
  4. He’s fallen off in OWGR this year, but I always liked Graeme McDowell’s apparel line.
  5. Top 3-4 clubs need to be tee options for me. Lowest loft fairway wood is a good rescue club, I don’t mind hitting 3W off the deck, but usually have a more reliable option. I started the year with 1W 10.5° 230-240y, 3W 14.5° 215-225y, 5W 18.5° 200-210y, 4Hy 22° 185-195y. In July, switched out the middle two to 3W 15° and 3Hy 19°; currently 4W 16.5° 3Hy 20° 4Hy 23°.
  6. City, State? Bloomington, IL Handicap? 11.5 Current hybrid? Callaway Mavrik Pro 3Hy & Apex 19 4Hy What is important to you in a hybrid? Versatility, I’m not a long hitter, inconsistent with driver, and play on a short tight home course. So I use hybrid a lot off the tee, in recovery situations, as well as long approaches. Why do you want to review the Cobra KING Tec Hybrid? I’ve played quite a few Cobra hybrids over the last decade (Baffler T Rail, BiO Cell, Fly-Z, F6, F8), but none from the most recent club cycles. I’d like to see how the King Tec stands up against my G400s in forgiveness, and test out the weight adjustability. I also like the the hosel settings sit neutral at 19°. The older adjustable Cobra hybrids had to open or close the face to get 19°. Do you agree to participate in an ongoing testing thread, and posting reviews and photos? Yup!
  7. @Lookout! Which Golden Bears? When I was a beginner, I picked up a set of GB9s with the uniflex steel when I replaced my dad’s old MacGregors. Pretty solid Callaway X20 knockoff irons, came with hybrid and sand wedge.
  8. 1. City, State? Bloomington, IL 2. Handicap? 11.5 3. Current hybrid or fairway wood? Mavrik Pro 3Hy 4. Why do you want to test the Callaway Epic Super Hybrid? I love hybrids, tested the OG super hybrid at 17° and smashed it (never bought it though). 5. Do you agree to take high quality photos, write an in-depth review, and be part of an on-going testing thread? Yes, of course.

    Why PW and GW?

Maybe it’s all about production cost savings. “P” and “G” are only one character to stamp, where “10” and “11” are two characters each. That doubles your stamping cost per club. Not to mention the extra paint fill....
  10. I started the year with 5W, one of my favorite clubs in the bag. I noticed over time, however, I wasn’t really getting ideal results off the tee. Mostly playing a short, tight course, lots of trees; being in play off the tee is essential. And the 5W was a little too loose, risking penalty or recovery shots at a much higher percentage than my other options. So I switched to a 3Hy I had sitting on deck, perhaps not as good off turf, but fantastic off the tee. On the short, tight course, it’s about equal to driver in terms of strokes gained/lost. 5W generally scores better than 3Hy in strokes gained off the deck; but it’s a trade off I’ll accept. Now I’m trying 4W-3Hy, with some success. But when I go back to 3W, I may sub in the 5W on longer, wide open courses where I’d be hitting driver/3W off the tee 13 or 14 times.
  11. Odyssey 2019 Stroke Lab Double Wide CS. Maybe a Japan only release?
  12. Finally got the 64° in hand, testing to follow. Who’s gaming this one already?
  13. I’ve been reading a lot of books about gin lately. Or drinking gin. Or whiskey. One of those. So I’d say yes, because golf is chancy.
  14. 1. Must subscribe to Club Champion's YouTube channel HERE done 2. Search for your local Club Champion location HERE done 3. What Club Champion location would you get fit at? Schaumburg, IL 4. Have you been fit for clubs before? No 5. What part of your bag could use a fitting? Driver, woods, hybrids
  15. How about Piretti Cottonwood II? It’s not a super deep flange, but has a little extra over a regular blade, and available in plumbers neck. 303 SS, tri-sole, head weight & sight line options, etc. Mine is center shaft, about the same size as the Bettinardi Studio Stock 28, pleasing firm feel.

  17. Haha, I’m cheap. I was not fit for this setup. After the new ZX line was released, I bought the set as single irons with the stock shafts (105 in 585 and 120 in 785). I had the i95 lying around in another 4i, so dropped it in the 4U as an experiment and liked it. So ended up with a kind of tiered ascending weight set, but I’ve played AMT before and it suits me. My 4Hy for most of the season is a Ping G400 22° Aldila NV 2KXV Green 85H. Again, just well suited for me, decent recovery club. I generally punch out with 7i or hybrid. Fairway woods actually did really well for me this season too, but it’s gotta be a playable lie.

    The 14th Club

Yes. I track stroke gained statistics for each club over the course of the season. Around July this year I was able to recognize a growing weakness at the 5W spot, especially vulnerable to penalty or recovery shot results off the tee. I had one minimal round of stats in June with a 3Hy, where it was my only long club last 6i. Looking a the tee and turf stats, it was clear I’d gain an advantage with 3Hy over 5W off the tee, but would sacrifice strokes on approach shots. The season-long comparison bears out the trade off. Even just the usage numbers shows a strong uptick for 3Hy over 5W. Anyway, that’s how I do it. Not for everyone.

  21. Nice setup! What’s your overall putter weight then? Mini Giant DF is a great putter. Love the stealth RST and face milling. For me it’s the best out of the half dozen SeeMore’s I’ve owned and better inside 8ft than any of 8-10 putters in my rotation last year.
  22. They do, or at least did make a 57° S wedge for Z785. Japan only as far as I know.
  23. 1. City, State? Bloomington, IL2. Handicap? 11.53. Current Iron set? Callaway 2018 X-forged / Apex MB combo set Modus 120 S4. Are you right-handed or left-handed? Right handed 5. Why do you want to review the Takomo 201 irons? I have never heard of Takomo until now, but they look awesome! Could also compare to Srixon Z785 & Ping i200.6. Do you agree to participate in an ongoing testing thread, posting reviews and photos? Yes!
  24. This summer I played Srixon ZU85 4U, Z585 6i-7i, Z785 8i-AW, fantastic setup. I’ve always struggled with gap compression from 7i to 4Hy, this was the best mid-long iron gaps I’ve ever had. That AW is also a specialty wedge, so really 4 types of heads in this set.
