  1. I really don't understand the view that the 105 can 'overload' vs other modus - 130 in particular if you swing stiffness appropriate for your swing in the particular series, i find little to no difference at all and the 10 grams between the 105x and the 130s I would think is not nearly enough to materially affect 'loading' that is what i found the 130s was actually a little more wild and tended left more than the 105x - for me, anyway i may have no idea what i am talking about, but that is my experience thought i would share it still can't decide which i like better as an aside....
  2. not sure where that's from but every swing is different. This thread has several comments about the dispersion of the 105 and shots going left. This being a motivating factor for people looking at hard stepping them or going to a 120 or 125. I am testing the 105x vs the 130s and I am NOT finding the 105 wants to go left at all I find the dispersion Better with the 105 to be frank - ballspeed and height (and hence carry) Can be better with the 130 for sure when tagged 105 feels more consistent thus far I am 83mph 8 iron / late release / medium transition
  3. Looking for more commentary and views on the 125 wedge shaft - both around the green and on full shots also, views as to whether they are worth it vs just continuing the set that is in the irons thanks
  4. Scottleo wondering how the 105x performed against the 105s on the metrics you cite as well as you comment that you would look to hard-step the 105s possibly what is your approx 6 or 8 i speed / release / transition characteristics so we can get a sense tests like this are very informative - appreciated I thought the 105x didn't give me the height/spin I was looking for, the ball went very straight for me, so I am thinking that the 105s hard stepped might give me the best of both worlds...my driver ss is 98-100 mph. I have an early release that I am working on, trying to keep the lag, moderate transition. FYI--just added my 9i&6i 120s modus shafts to BST, pg.6. Would you consider the 105X soft-stepped as similar to the 105S hard-stepped? I like the 105S, but need a little extra weight. interesting comment on the 105x going very straight how would you compare that to the 130s in your trial - the 130 s is notorious for being straight and less workable thanks

  6. Like the guy above, I also thought the 105x felt the best. This is also coming from a long time DG X100 user. I thought I was going to like the 130 better but it was the 105 that I liked. Different strokes question the 105x - Likers - swing speed on 6 iron? / release early/mid/late / transition and tempo ? vs the 130s -Likers trying to Nail down which one I like the best 130s feels like more work than the 105x, but better blasted, height, carry 105x's consistency and smoothness feel unparalleled though i'm struggling on deciding appreciated
  7. Thanks man - I figured that would be the case. Let me know your thoughts after some more use, particularly on full shots or shots where you give it a little umph. Interested in further feedback and others' views of the 125 wedge shaft both around the green as well as full shots First off, the 125's in the 765 are a very nice pairing. I may need to get the 765's bent a little weak since I'm a low ball hitter anyway, and the lofts on the 765's are a tad stronger than I'm used to. Approach shots had no problem holding greens with ample spin though. The ball flight is just lower than I'm used to seeing, which is not all bad. Very controlled and knock downs are just a blast with these shafts. I'd consider them a firm but not overly stout shaft with that Nippon smoothness throughout. The Modus 125 Wedge shafts are not as stiff as the 125 iron shafts, but share that smooth Nippon feel. They are not as heavy or burly feeling as S400's. They are especially wonderful around the greens, though they are VERY straight paired with the RTX3's on shots from 120 and in. I only have a few range sessions and one round on them, so I'll check back in after I get more time on them. I give both 125's a thumbs up for now. apologies for messing up that reply last night here it is more clearly, Interested in further feedback and others' views of the 125 wedge shaft both around the green as well as full shots matching with a set of 105x or 130s to gap wedge, then sand and lob in the 125 wedge appreciated

  9. Really appreciate this insight Bogey_Fly_By debating 105x vs the 130s and still on the fence couple of questions - why is it you wouldn't think these shafts 'fit' you? Are you a late release / hard transition swing? approximate driver or 8i or 6i clubhead speed? Just for reference very intrigued by the 130, but the 105x feels so smooth it almost has me hitting inside on trackman though...few months until get outside and trying to gather maximum information for the decision apppreciated
  10. Finally tested the 105x vs the 130s - 105x felt super smooth (light and effortless almost) through the impact zone The 130s was more work there, but had a great snap coming out of the zone Slightly better ballspeed and height out of the 130s These were 8 irons though.... Leaning toward the 105x right now - not settled any view as to my concern that the 130s will feel more 'laborous' in the longer irons - 3,4,5? thank you a long time 130s user here. my game is down the toilet after second kid and I am actually testing 125s and 105x at the moment due to 'laborous' nature of 130 if you don't get to play every week... you should be ok with 5 iron but 3 and 4 does require little bit of work. 130s on 3 and 4 will definitely not work with you if your game is not sharp for the day. even though 105 is xstiff, it does balloon on some shots here and there. 130 was perfect for me because it wasn't too high and very very penetrating flights for me. If you like 130s, keep them in short irons and use 105x on long irons. Great Insight and thoughts. Thanks a ton Interesting call - anyone else have a view on this? splitting between 105x and 130s? Mark, j9000 or Awtryau ? appreciated I'm not really a fan of mixing shafts. So many variables already exist. Why add another. In regards to 105 vs 130, I personally like the 105 better. I played DG X100 for the past 8 years and honestly, I just became tired of having to work too hard with the 3, 4 and sometimes even the 5. The 105 gave me a lower ball flight with slightly more spin than the 130. Don't get me wrong, the 130 wasn't ballooning but the flight was higher launching. It got up super quick where as the 105 had a gradual ascent. Swing speed also increased with the 105. I normally come in right around 93-94 with a 6i. The 105 was getting me up to 96. If I had one bad thing to say about the 105 it would be the fact that it's easy to overload. It will handle any swing speed you throw at it however it does not play nice with a fast transition. Your tempo should be moderately smooth. If not, your dispersion will be effected. I think you said it best in your original statement though. The 105 is just so damn smooth. If I could describe it with one word it would be "effortless". This is great honest guidance - much appreciated i guess the only way to find out - as per awtryau89 - is to try out the 5 iron with both shafts head to head 8 irons are one thing, but dropping down to the 5 should be telling also, agree with concerns over mixing sets - what about single stepping 130s 7 through p and double-stepping 130s 3 through 6 ? getting cute maybe, but should that not mitigate the 'labour' ? appreciate thoughts
  11. That is a real concern of mine as well - very different shafts really.... to follow up, if one were double-soft stepping already and starting to struggle with the 130s in the mid irons, would you recommend just going with the 105x and calling it a day? or do you think that the 130s aren't really that more challenging in the longer irons and if one can get the 8i or 6i down, should really be no difference in the longer irons.. views apprecaited

Ballspeed and height both better with the 130s, so tempted on them overall and in the scoring irons Need some experienced options help please appreciated

  15. One Concern i have about the 130s is in the longer irons - reputation for overly stiff and challenges in the 3,4,5 iron shafts.....false rumour? thanks Mark or Awtryau - can you opine on this view that the longer iron shafts are too stout? Seems harsh, but i keep hearing it. Appreciated

  17. I too was scared about the stoutness of the 130. I have them in X, I don't know my CHS with a 6 iron but it's my 190 club. My transition is smooth, slower overall tempo as well. I was playing S300 before. I will say the 130 do launch high, but I also launched the S300 high too. Biggest difference is to me is the 130's just want to go straight. I had a pretty big draw with the S300's. I can still hit a draw with the 130's if I need to. As far as weight goes, they feel lighter (to me) than S300's, perhaps it's the slight counterbalance. I play in wind basically all year here, maybe June and July aren't as windy. The ball flight with the 130's is up and out, meaning, it's get up and goes. High without ballooning, at least for me. I'm also able to flight it down. I can't say enough good things about this shaft, and I will never switch again. Of course everyone swings differently so YMMV. Hope this helped a little haha! I think I am all but sold on the 130 S (maybe ssx1) straight and height both appeal to me especially while holding left off for me anyone with a view as to whether my modus wedge 125's in my wedges pair well with the 130s or should i consider the 130s throughout the bag? appreciated
  18. Still bewildered why the modus 130s gets such a bad rap and is played by so few Shouldn't Every late release/lag swinger be using this shaft? Does anyone know a player on tour using it? Plenty of players here extoll it's virtues I am about to have a 105x ssx1 vs 130s shoot out - already thinking 130 will win out when i go after it Keeping left away and getting the apex up are the keys i seek Any insights to why so may shy away Anyone have another shaft i can throw into the shootout? thank you
  19. Sec-Ede - Really Appreciate all the very solid advice on the the SF - if i could, any commentary on ball flight (workability, height, etc) vs the 130s the 105 seems to have more dispersion issues even in a X-flex from what i have heard Just looking for more of what i can expect when i ditch the SF 100icw's i have for 130s thank you again My flight on the SteelFiber 110 was lower overall in all irons than both 105 and 130. Like I said before, for me, the 105x tended to curve more than SteelFiber or the 130s.. I didn't particularly like the SF 110s...I thought they were boardy feeling...but that's just me. Initially I had a set of PING i25s with the 130s...and the 1st day I had them at the range I was standing on my 4 irons...swinging out of my shoes...and the ball just wanted to go high and straight. I made the mistake of selling those irons...tried to buy them back...and the guy I sold them to said no way he's selling them. I landed on AP2s with DG Pros b/c they give me decent height with the long irons, and I hit them about a 1/2 club to a club farther than the 130s in my AP2s. Before ditching your current gamer shafts...test out a 6 iron or 7 iron. If you like them...shaft up the rest of the set. Interesting appreciated - I will be doing exactly that with 6 and 8 irons - thanks again just a follow-up, which dg pro shaft and what do you attribute the 1/2 club longer to? thanks a ton jj9000

  22. Thanks again. I will try that sequence. They have such a bad rap, I figured I needed to soften them up a bit Any colour/felel comments on the steel finer 110s vs the 130s? I am abandoning the sf's in this process I think
  23. Appreciate the feedback - so i take it the reputation of the 130s being 'rebar' is far from accurate? i was concerned about the loading coming from steelfiber 110s cw did you or anyone try the 1150s - it's weight is half way between the 105s and the 130s - wondering if it is better at managing transition/hook potential, etc thanks how do you think the 105x would fair vs your 130s do you think it would tighten up the dispersion, still give you the height and hold up to a lag/late release? trying to decide 105x vs 130s thank you for your thoughts I'll see if I can help you a bit here. But, please understand that I'll be talking in terms of 'feel', and my feel may differ from your feel. I have a very late release...a 3 on the Mizuno Optimizer...with 9 being the earliest release and 1 being the latest release. I've played SteelFiber 110 Stiff in AP2s. I've played Modus 130s in more than 1 set. I've played 105x softstepped 1x in a set of AP2s...They were Proto STs, which are the same shaft as the 105x. To me, the SteelFiber 110 Stiff feel much more stout (boardy) than either the 130 and the 105x ss1x. Although the 130s measure out as being ultra-stiff, they certainly don't feel ultra-stiff. With the 130s, I think "awtryau89" said it best above in that you really have to put a bad swing on the ball to get it to substantially curve. In other words, if you want to hit the ball dead straight and high...and don't really care about massively working the ball (right/left)...the 130 is your shaft. Personally, I think the 130 gets a bad rap due to it's ultra-stiff bench test mid-section numbers. Also, as mentioned several times in this thread, the 130 is about as different as the 120 as it could possibly be. I can't stand the 120. As far as the 105x is concerned, it's a solid shaft. But, I got more curvature (left) out of it than I wanted. You put a bad pass on the ball with the 105 and the ball may go left, or it may go right. That might have been a weight issue (definitely not a swing issue :) ) Again...both shafts felt less stiff to me than the SteelFiber 110s. They also both felt less stiff than regular (non-flighted) PX 5.5 and 6.0. Out of the entire lineup, if I had to play a Modus shaft for a lengthy amount of time, I'd choose the 130...hands down. There's something to be said about swinging a very stable shaft...that can handle a very late release...and looking up to see the ball much higher than you would expect to see it..going dead straight. Just my 2 cents...hope this helps. Incredible insight. Huge Thanks! I think you have sold me on the 130s 2 quick follow-ups if i may 1) thoughts on the steelfiber 110s in general and vs. the 130s and 1051x 2) what is your approximate swing speed - driver, 6i, 8i for reference Thought is to soft step 2x the 130s - any view on that move? driver 103, 6i 87, 8i 83 greatly appreciated thanks again

  25. Guys on tour bang balls all day every day. 130 is a bit heavy for them. Also the heft slows them down so they sacrifice distance. 105 is very popular because it is very light, increases swingspeed while keeping stability, dispersion and spin on point. What you want is the LSL prototype which isn't out yet. It's a 115-ish gram shaft with lower flight than 105, slightly more heft and firmness in mid-section, still smooth feel. Kind of a marriage of 120 and 105 IMO. I think Nippon is just holding off one more year while the 105 is selling well. But I have faith we'll see it eventually. Proto sets have been on tour its only a matter of time until a few start falling onto eBay. I think they need to figure out what they want in that "Tour115" range (my term for it.) LSL is low spin low launch which I love in a 115g shaft that is smooth and not boardy like PXi or C-Taper Lite. For the big boys it may be a mid-launch mid-spin compared to some 130g shafts but for 115g I think it will compete with those others and still have that Nippon feel. Hope to see it this year, maybe August? Who knows, I don't. Meantime you could check out Nippon 1050, 1150GH Tour or the Super Peening Orange possibly. ok, going to test out 8 irons - 0311t - with pxi 6.0 (my old stalworth) vs. steelfiber 110cw (holds off left, launch lacking), modus 130s (ssx2) and modus 105 x (ssx1) will report back
