  1. i play 54(12) and 58(8). gap wedge is part of iron set and used for full shots. primarily use the 58 out of greenside sand. the ping glide ES sole is incredible for bunker play. stupid easy to hit.
  2. my lowest is 45. also play a 50 as part of my iron set. two 'wedges' - 54 (12) and 58(8). most often use these two from inside 100 and around greens/bunkers (chip with 9,7 or hybrid). i consider my PW as mostly a 10 iron for full shots 130+. used to play a cally 50 gap wedge (and no 58), but decided to go with one in a set when i upgraded irons. ive been a bit more consistent with the set wedge, but still struggle with distance control in the 110-130yd range.
  3. i havent hit many models tbh. but the cally apex is legit. plays very much like an iron. super versatile - strong off the tee and from a host of lies. not as long as the older cally it replaced, but also not a hook machine.
  4. i use a 4 wood. but last year snagged a TEE e8 beta. it performed nicely from the deck and rough. face is super hot, but i have had no issues holding greens. everyone i know who has plays TEE fairways loves them. i paid like $60 for a used one in mint condition off the bay.
  5. i did take a look at these. def like the look (though i am not a huge fan of the loft numbers tbh). the equalizer wedges seem nice too.
  6. No offense, and I don't know what you believe a "decent ball striker" is, but since you don't give a handicap you probably don't have one. Nor do you mention your experience or whether you've ever taken lessons or not. Given your scores it sounds like you're about an 11 or 12 at best, which ain't bad, especially if you haven't taken any lessons. You're apparently budget constrained. I would suggest you keep your irons and find a place (assuming there is one nearby) where the facility offers group lessons and take 7 or 8 (possibly more) of them for your $400. By the time you apply the les
  7. thanks for the replies. some further comments... my hogans are forged and i would prefer to keep that feel. i believe the feedback has made me a better ballstriker. though i love the combo set, i need more forgiveness in my short irons especially. my natural ball flight is fairly straight/slight draw. prefer little to no offset. no particular brand loyalty here. unfortunately, i don't have the option to test out many older sets. so appreciate all the feedback.
  8. so finally deciding to upgrade the bag. started last year with woods/hybrid. got some decent recommendations here so decided to post again. been playing my hogans for about 10 years now. they are fantastic sticks, but i need more forgiveness. just dont get to play as much as i would like (though hoping that starts to change this season). by way of background... im typically in the low-mid 80s with an occasional round in the 70s. decent ball striker. length not much of a concern. most all of my misses are pulls (or fat if i get overly steep). most of the course i play tend to be on t

  10. just picked one up on ebay for cheap. still getting used to it, but enjoying thus far. ive been playing an older cally fusion 4wd, and wow the face is so much hotter.
  11. i game an older cally x utility prototype 24 deg to replace my 4. primarily for use off the tee including longer par 3s (not great the best from the deck). agree need to find the right shaft though. this season i am experimenting with a hybrid shaft cut down a bit.
  12. would you advise the mini over the standard pro? given how much i play (and my homemade swing), i could benefit from from some forgiveness. and thanks everyone. know this topic is covered quite a bit. ive gone through most of the threats. but appreciate this more specific insight.
  13. Been quite awhile since I have made any adjustments to the bag. Started to work on some new additions at the top. Looking for some recommendations on hybrids that perform well from the fairway/light rough. Need it mostly for shorter par 5s and the occasional long par 4. Typically, I use either 4wd or 4 iron replacement if I am going less than driver. Prefer little offset and a smaller profile (not a mini-wood), but not sure how these types play off the deck or less than stellar lies. Looking at some older value models - Cally x2hot pro, apex, ping i25, adams pro. But open to suggesti
