  1. I've had TEs for quite a while now. However, through the pandemic I took the time to give a number of different clubs a try. I'm back on the TEs and I don't think they're going anywhere for a long time. The fact that they're simple and boring means jack and squat to me.

So question, if you want a partial set BUT want a more current iron set then say Ping i3 do you try to buy individual irons or a full set and just leave the other irons out?.

I have a partial set bag setup now but the only backup set is the i3's with the weaker lofts by today irons.  I like having stronger lofted irons as it will help my game I think by giving me more range in distancex!  Make sense?  I am going to use the 5,7,9 and PW.   Even if I could get the bent stronger say 2 to 3 degrees!

An option is component clubs (Golfworks, Acer, etc.).

this is my issue… I’m wanting to experiment with a 7w to replace my 3hy but I don’t want to pay $300 for a new one just to experiment and used ones all have senior or super lightweight shafts…

Easy solution: Buy a cheap one and reshaft it.

Could you expand on this par 3 that requires a lay up? I am now really curious.

You didn't ask me but there's a course just south of Tucson, AZ that has a long par 3 (over 200 yards) with houses on the right and a ditch on the left with heavy brush, and the front is protected by 2 bunkers. I always scored better if I played for just in front of the bunkers on the tee shot and played for an up and down.

For those who play hybrid as direct iron replacements (such as what the JPX fli-hi is advertised as), do you  play same shaft in the iron replacement as in your irons or do you play a 80-90 gram graphite like a "traditional" hybrid?

For example, if you replace your 5 iron, do you use the same shaft as your 6 iron, 7 iron, etc? 110-130 gram steel?

I'm thinking about building a combo set with 6-P a small workable CB and then 4-5 irons as direct long iron replacement hybrids.  Once I get to the 5 iron slot, I'm really just looking for high and straight.

I build my hybrids with the same shaft and length as the iron they're replacing.
