I really can't see why cup face is needed in an iron? With a driver it gets the welds away from impact areas. That's not necessary in an iron.
It moves the "stress/fixed" point allowing the face to bend more. The side wall of the cup can flex better than a side wall of a flat welded face. The cup also has an interior radius that helps out
 2. I purchased a new set of 714 AP1's as soon as they came out. They are a great set of irons, even better than the 710's and 712's, in my opinion. I played the 714's for more than a year, before demoing the Callaway Apex (Non-pro). Then it was over for the AP1's. Now they just sit in the garage whispering to me when I come by... Are they still great irons, DEFINITELY! Are the Apex that much better, YES! Are they the most expensive irons ever, YES!
 3. My SS is somewhere between 88-93, depending on the day. I recently replaced my 10* 913 - D2 with a 10* G30, both in regular, stock shafts. The significant difference is in consistency. The G30 is much friendlier, straighter and confidence inspiring (for me). My typical distance is 235-245, depending on the day, but I don't think an individual can gain a lot more distance by switching today's drivers, without first creating more club head speed.
 4. I don't know it there's any relevance, but I loved the 714-AP1's, until I gave the Apex (non-pro's) a whirl. I haven't looked back since. The Apex are just as easy to hit, equally as friendly and longer. However, the AP1 long irons are 2nd to none!
 5.
My favorite is being called a poser for iron covers. If you drop a paycheck on some irons Im going to cover them I'll make the dings, not the bumps when I don't walk a course.
Ditto! Say what you want. I just paid $1400 on a set of Apex irons and they WILL be covered up!

 8. Just retired a set for the Callaway Apex with Recoil shafts. We'll see how that goes...
 9. I need help with my new Apex (non-pro) irons. I currently play the AP1's, with the XP95's in Reg, but I like what I hear about the Recoils that Callaway has in stock. Can anyone shed any light on these Recoil's, and what the characteristic differences would be between them & the XP95's? I''d like a lit'l softer feel, a higher ball flight and any distance I can gain... Any suggestions? Anyone with experience between the two shafts?
 10.
KBS has a white option I believe.
This is why I didn't suggest them...; "- KBS Custom Series; these look good, but I'd prefer the Steel Fiber or Graphite feel, opposed to steel."
 11.
I got a new set of Callaway Apex irons with the Recoil Graphite shafts a few months back and love them. However, I'm trying to find a way to get a very comparable shaft *in white*. All I could find so far in white is: -Matrix Program (their logos are too much throughout the shaft *even if you turn the big red logo face down!) - KBS Custom Series; these look good, but I'd prefer the Steel Fiber or Graphite feel, opposed to steel. Anything I'm missing? Thanks!
Golf Skinz: [url="http://www.bing.com/images/searc
 12. I've been playing the SLDR most recently, and the 913D2 before that. My misses are always a cut, that can easily turn into a slice, so I liked the SF TEC idea. I already know it's my swing, so that aside, I went and purchased the new G30 SF TEC on Friday and took it straight to the course Sat-morn. I didn't have a lot of range time, but there was nothing great with the 10 or so I did hit. Went to the 1st hole, lined it up a lit' l left to cut the ball away from the tree line and cranked it straight & dead-left! I teed up another, lined up down the middle-left and didn't miss another fairwa

 14.
Mine are sitting in my garage, with my 4 year old JPX800's back in the bag. They probably do everything better than the AP1's.
Go figure... I traded in my old 800 (non-pro's) for the AP1's.. I also tried the new 825's before the AP1's, but I didn't like them as much.
