Forged irons will always be lighter but also less forgiving. Some people prefer that their kids start out on players irons so they get used to them. Others want the maximum forgiveness at the younger ages.

My daughter is 11 and I got her Cobra irons because I get a big discount from them for my high school team. We went with the F8 ladies irons with recoil graphite shafts. She likes the clubs and hits them fine. I debated on whether or not to go back with a junior set one more time. The only issue that we have had are the irons are a little heavy because they are cast clubs. My nephew has the Cobra Forged Tec Black irons with the same shafts and they are much lighter because they are forged. With young kids, the key issue to watch is the weight. If I had an unlimited budget, I would have got her fit for Ping irons. Ping does the best job of being able to adjust the weighting of their irons. This is why so many juniors play Ping. I didn't go that route because it would have cost me a ton of money and I didn't want to do that at 11 years old. I will definitely do that on her next set. Just look into the weighting of the clubs before you buy them.
