baby 9-iron below is going to the swing i refer to for the next couple of months. i think it best resembles the things i've been working on recently. really happy with improvements in control and consistency. just gotta remember tempo, tempo, tempo! and keep things slow/deliberate!0 ·Dec 21, 2019
had a chilly (mid- high-30's F) range session tonight to drill some feels.
here's a very slow (60%/100y) 9-iron. focusing on getting shallow earlier in the DS, keeping the trail heel down longer, and using the body to rotate through the shot.
here's a smooth 6-iron. similar focus but closer to regular speed than the baby 9-iron above.
and finally, here's a smooth 4-iron. also faster than the 9-iron though not full speed, which has been difficult to achieve with the current swing changes. keep swinging slow with good tempo to ingrain the feels!
one thing i like is how i'm folding the trail/right arm during the BS as well as taking the hands back on a more inside route (back hip/pocket). reduces so much tension and gets the club into a good position at the top with minimal effort.
still a bit too herky-jerky for my taste but that's because i'm still ingraining the moves and have more tension than usual. should get smoother as it becomes more natural and less forced.
more consistent shallowing but still have the tendency to get steep from the top when i add speed. similar with the back foot. seems to want to spin out the faster i swing. probably ok with longer clubs but not so much with wedges/short-/mid-irons. keep an eye on this.
really like using/rotating the body to square the club face through impact. much better low point control and fewer big lateral misses. just remember to swing through the ball and keep those arms straight.0 ·Dec 20, 2019
