About Me

  1. Morning all. I'm hoping you can be of some help in the States at least, to explain just what I've got on my hands here in the UK. I'm a bit of an American nut when it comes to golf clubs, specifically Cleveland stuff, although I love the EV Snake Eyes stuff too. I bought what I thought was a BeCu Cleveland Designed by Ben Crenshaw Putter off UK Ebay a few years ago. I love it and use it often. But I'm still not 100% convinced it's legit. It LOOKS like a bona fide BeCu napa putter from Cleveland, although the patina isn't quite right. (It doesn't seem to get darker over time - I should point out that I've not cleaned it at all with anything like Coca Cola). Also I've seen quite a few bona fide Cleveland Designed by ("CLASSIC") BeCu putters over the years (_ but not once a BeCu Cleveland designed by "BEN CRENSHAW" putter. Not one, although I've seen plenty of NON-BeCu Designed by Ben Crenshaw Putters. The grip looks legit. The shaft looks legit. But is this a fake. Or copper plated??? Or a real BeCu putter? And from what year? 1987? Much later? Any ideas please, thanks in advance. Doug in Scotland.
  2. This is the jfrank bag as it ends 2022 and goes into January 2023. 2022 has been a good year of golf with some nice rounds at TPC Sawgrass, TPC San Antonio, Canyon Springs, World Woods, Atlantic Dunes, Heron Point, LPGA, and Old Corkscrew. FSGA 4-Ball win at Vanderbilt. Two eagles this year. Hit #17 green at Sawgrass three times. The bag has evolved with some drivers and wood changes, along with a putter commitment. WITB January 2023: Bag = Ogio Octane Carry with Bombs Driver = Ping G410 Plus - 10.5 degree with Tensei CK Orange, 60g Stiff, Neutral weight 3 Wood = Adams XTD 13.5Ti - 13.5 set at 15 degrees, with Matrix Red Tie 7Q3 70g Stiff Absolutely love the huge velocity slots on top and bottom, plus the weighting - have hit a couple 260, but can also top it. Hybrid/Rescue = TaylorMade Rescue 2011 - 3h, 18 degrees, Aldila RIP TM-TP-HB 85 grams Stiff Irons = TaylorMade SIM Max - 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, P, A (21.5deg-49deg) KBS MAX 85g Regular Steel Shafts Little too much offset for me now, but I hit some good shots with these over the past couple of years. SW D0-D1. Sand Wedge = Cleveland CBX2 - 54 degree, 12 degrees bounce, Dynamic Gold 115 Wedge Lob Wedge = Cleveland CBX2 - 58 degree, 10 degrees bounce, Dynamic Gold 115 Wedge Putter = Ping Scottsdale TR - Custom CF insert, Golf Pride Pro-Only Cord 83g Grip, Black, Pb Love the feel of this one. My backup is a TM Rossa Daytona. My handicap is down to sub-15 and my ball striking is improving enough to where I believe I need to make a move to Players Distance irons in 2023. Looking to see if I can make the leap to a Ping i230, Titleist T200, Srixon ZX5, etc. - let me know what you think. Also considering a change to a traditional 58 degree LW for a more narrow profile when opening the blade. I'm staying committed to this driver and putter! I will make some other posts about my 6 drivers and 12 putters throughout the year. jfrank
  3. Hi all welcome to my first ever WITB on here, I'm a 3cap who has just been recently diagnosed with arthritis in my hips and elbows , so a full change to graphite happened In the bag Driver: Cobra F8 9* aldila NV blue 65 3 wood : Taylormade Aeroburner tour issue 15* Fujikura PRO 85 playing 42" Utility: Ping G400 crossover 19* Alta 85 Or Titleist 712u 18* KBS proto hybrid 85 Irons: Nike Vapor Pro combo 4-pw Project X graphite 6.5 Wedges: Nike forged 50* , Nike engage 54*& 60* Aldila NV 105 multi comp Putter: Nike Method 001 flowneck (Oven) Ball :Chromesoft X Note: my 712u and 50 not in pictures, in pro shop getting loft and lie checks
  4. Selling a set of Cleveland Launcher UHX irons 5-Pw with senior graphite shafts. In good shape, tried for about 10 rounds. 6A graphite shafts, standard loft&lie, with standard Lamkin grips. looking for $500
  5. I have been better at bump & run wedge play than fly it to the hole. I purchased a used original Smart Sole sand wedge and seeing success with elevating chip shots (only indoor as in MI, but if I can hit off a mat, should see same once on grass). Smart Sole 4.0 now offers a 50° wedge. So a couple of questions for Smart Sole gap wedge users; 1) seeing the same success as the sand wedge? 2) is the 8° loft difference between gap and sand wedge causing any ball distance gapping issues? I plan on getting over to the local golf store which has a Trackman range and heated bays to give one a try, but real world reviews are always helpful.
  6. Hi guys new to the forum but came here looking for some opinions. I currently game Adams a12 pro irons in a kbs stiff shaft and can clip my 8 iron about 145-150 carry but I want to get some Srixon 785/585s and the seller has them in a modus 3 120 X shaft and I’ve heard they play almost as soft as a stiff and I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience with these shafts. I really love the Look of the irons but don’t wanna sacrifice my game by jumping into shafts that are too stiff. I’m also an 8.6 handicap and play stiff shafts in my all of my other clubs
  7. Anyone who is serious about maximizing consistency knows about swingweighting, and usually has it done by a professional club-builder. But what about calculating an anticipated weight before having a club built? How are we supposed to guess (rhetorical)? Obviously, it's great to know an experienced club-builder or two. However, I want to start a forum for people to share the weights of individual clubheads from specific models and manufacturers. It's reasonable to expect there would be small differences, and much of this information is not available on manufacturer or brand websites. I've attached a PDF containing an example of standard weights (see Page 2), but if you read through the whole packet you'll see how even a small variation in mass can lead to potentially noticeable differences, so it may be important for serious players to verify what the masses of particular clubheads are supposed to be. This can also be helpful in avoiding counterfeits or clubheads that have been illegally altered. My initial question is, does anyone have the head weights of the TaylorMade MB irons -- 2010, 2011, and 2014 -- numbers 4 and 2? Trying to determine how hard-stepping will affect these swingweights. As a secondary, I assume that the Titleist 716 MB weights are probably exactly the same as what is listed in the attachment, but if anyone can show that they are different this would be welcome information. Someone took my gram scale, and I keep putting off getting a new one -- but when I do I'll be happy to post the information I gather. Swing Weight.pdf
  8. Curious if there are any lower handicap player using the CBX Zipcore for their gap wedge? Would I be losing anything by going this route instead of the RTX in a 50° loft? Currently 3 handicap playing AP2 irons and Vokey wedges. My 100 yard and in game is solid. Planning to grab the tour rack full face in 56&60°, but curious if the CBX will do what I’d want as my 50° is almost strictly full swing shots and knock downs. I love the idea of a little extra forgiveness in a club in the area of the set, but I don’t want inconsistent yardages if the hollow face allows that. Thanks!
  9. I'm interested to hear what people think about putting an Aldila proto vs 80s hybrid shaft in a 3 Wood head (Cleveland 588). Seems reasonable to me but.....? Ideas?

  15. So..heres my setup..nothing too complicated but it gets the job done really well. I am currently a 10.4 handicap, shooting around low 80s from about 6850 yards. I basically got tired of my game improvement irons and decided to get rid of them shovels and get something more player's-irons like but still having forgiveness and workability. Tried out a lot of clubs and got fitted for new irons... Driver: Taylormade M4 10.5* w/ Mitsubishi Tensei CK Orange 60 Stiff Shaft 5-wood: Ping G400 w/ Alta Stiff Shaft 4-Rescue: Taylormade SIM2 Tour Rescue w/ Mitsubishi Tensei AV Raw Blue Stiff Shaft 5-PW: 2020 Taylormade P790 w/ Nippon NS Pro 950GH Stiff Shafts and MCC Align grips, 1* flat, 1* weak lofted Gap Wedge: 51* Titleist Vokey TVD M grind Sand Wedge: 56* Titleist Vokey SM7 10S Lob Wedge: Cleveland RTX-4 9FULL Putter: 2020 Scotty Cameron Special Select Newport 2 **Read Below Honestly, I love these clubs. I hit them well and they perform exactly how i wanted them to. I had tested a lot of irons from Mizuno, Taylormade, Callaway, Srixon, and Ping at a PGA Tour Superstore but the P790s really shocked me with the feel and flight. Taylormade came to my golf course and did a fitting session open to locals and i signed up since it was free and i wanted to get fitted for P790s. I was hitting the P790 7-iron about 205 yards on average with the ns pro 120 shafts but the ball flight was low and about 4000 rpm spin. But after changing them to something lighter and higher launch (ns pro 950gh) i had the results i wanted: about 6400 spin and carried 185 yards. Upon changing to these irons, i broke 85 for the first time a month after putting them in my bag and have been happy ever since. My driver headcover is from Pins and Aces and they are AWESOME. For the price, best headcover in the game, really high quality and stylish i would say, great company. I would like to get a dormie workshop headcover one day but thats when i will upgrade my driver, which is not in the near future. I love my driver, it is pretty consistent and carries about 285 yards. Its not super long but it gets me in the fairway. My 5-wood is my ultimate tool in long par-5s, it carries 250 yards and this thing is like a canon. I suck at hitting woods except for Ping woods. On address it looks amazing and aspires confidence. The newest club in the bag is the SIM2 tour rescue. I was surprised to get this club since people say its hard to hit bla bla bla and i should get the SIM2 max hybrid instead but i keep on over drawing the SIM2 max hybrids cuz i feel like they look awfully closed-face on address. This rescue is amazing...low ball flight, carries 220 yards and great for getting out of thick roughs. Thats pretty much it for my WITB..my wedges are pretty good, they get the job done. I love the RTX-4 cuz they are really spinny. Vokeys and Vokeys, we all know what they can do, no mistakes there. The Putter is relatively new but it works really good. I previously played a super soft taylormade putter which ends up short on my misses but the scotty really gives an extra push and my missed become inside two feet past the hole which is what i want. Nothing feels like a scotty but i would also take that with a gran of salt since putters should mainly look good on your eyes and it all depends on your own feel. ONE LAST THING... i always use Nike golf shoes because i feel like theyre sporty and not boring like FootJoy (no offense) but the thing with Nike golf shoes is that they are not as good quality as FJ and nowhere as comfortable as FJ. So overall, FJ actually wins in comfort among any other brands. HOWEVER....... Rory Mcilroy's new nike shoes just popped up on the nike website and your boy gotta cop. AND LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING.....NIKE....YOU FINALLY DID IT....no joke its one of the coolest, sporty yet classy golf shoes nike has come up with in recent years (in my opinion)...and guess what??? THEY ARE SUPERRR COMFORTABLE...PICS BELOW... the leather is screaming good quality and the laces make them look classy and i love the fact that it is really simple.. just white with grey accents. And i like these soft spikes better than the ones on the infinity tours. Awesome shoe Nike!!! FEEL FREE TO COMMENT...LET ME KNOW IF YOU LIKE OR DISLIKE AND MAYBE I COULD GET SOME OPINIONS FOR RAIN GEAR AND GOLF APPAREL. THANKS!!

  17. Well guys, I don't know how or when it happened - probably when Russ757 sold me the 913Fd - but I've been bit HARD by the Titleist bug. The look, the feel, the sound when you pure one.....it just sucks you in, and I'm a full blown addict. Bag is pretty much set after an absolute crap-ton of ho'ing this winter. 2 Spots potentially in flux are the Big Dog, even though I love it, because I suddenly have this anal need to have sticks all match brand. The other change that may be comin is the 54* wedge. This is the highest lofted club in my bag, and while the Ping Tour-S is yet to see the course (picked it up bc it was a freaking steal at a local shop), I am either going Vokey to finish off the Titleist bag, or I'm entertaining the idea of a SCOR 54*. Always have been intrigued by them. Enough with the lengthy, wordy stuff, here's my WITB, and the pics to follow. Newest addition: The bag itself! A Titleist mid-size Staff bag. Got it for a song on craigslist and she sure is purdy!! Adams Fast 12LS 9.5* w Matrix Black Tie 6m3.1 X Flex. Black/Royal Rocket Tour Headcover. It's eating my soul alive that this now doesn't match my new Titleist mid-size staff bag. Titleist 913Fd 13.5* w Graphite Design Tour AD GT-8X. This sucker is looooooooooooooooooong. Best club in my bag at the moment. Titleist 910F 15* cranked to 16.5 w Aldila RIP Alpha 80 S. Long, high bombs from the deck. If I' having a good day, I'll see this feller a couple times on Par 5s. Titleist 910h 21* w Matrix Ozik Altus X Flex. Point. Shoot. Gets up easy, flies straight, money from the deck, the tee, the rough...hoping to learn a little hybrid chip around the greens this year. Titleist 712 AP2 4-PW w KBS C Taper Tour Stiff 120. Brand spankin new with some Christmas money. This may have actually been the moment when the Titleist bug sunk its teeth into me fully, but either way, they look good, they feel good. They are beauties. Titleist Vokey 52-08 Gap Wedge w TT DG S300 stock shaft. This club is my nemesis. One round its money, the next it doesn't want to cooperate. The plan is to swap it out for a matching AP2 GW with C Taper Stiff. I feel better over a non-blade wedge. Ping Tour-S 54* Sand Wedge with S300. This thing actually looks and feels pretty good, and I might give it a chance, but odds are its a place holder until I find a more permanent solution. Titleist Scotty Cameron GoLo S Circle H 35" with Black Pistolero grip. This thing is smooth. I spend little time practicing my putting, but I'm hoping to make 2014 the year of the short game. OH yea, almost forgot: ACCESSORIES!! Bushnell Tour V2 Patriot Edition, Frogger BrushPro, Titleist Scotty Cameron Divot Tool, a Lucky Quarter, and I collect poker-chip style ball markers from courses I play. Below you see Cahoon Plantation, Stumpy Lake, Echelon, River Pines, Cypress Creek, and an old Beat Up Odyssey one I found, and I made everything I looked at that day, so into the rotation she went! There ya have it! Would love some feedback, unless you're just here to troll....I am really excited about my current set-up and can't wait for this crappy weather to leave town. Thanks for lookin! Hit 'em straight. -Duff!
  18. I was at my local golf simulator and the owner had his Srixon/Cleveland rep stop by. He had 3 Zipcore Full-Face prototype wedges, 60*, 56*, and 52* all 8 degree bounce. Head shape seemed to be same as regular Zipcore but the grooves went all the way across the face like TaylorMade Hi-Toe. He didn’t let me take a picture of them but he said they’ll be available in May. Haven’t seen anything on these anywhere, they looked very nice.
  19. Hello, Does anyone know what model this Cleveland Classic is? I have searched the internet and cannot find anything really like it. Most of the Cleveland's I have seen have the model where this one has one looks like a date stamp. The name plate looks more similar to some Mcgregors I have seen. If anyone has any input I would be glad to hear.
  20. I have a bunch of stuff priced to move!! Pic heavy. Not looking for trades but might consider putters, and SIM 2 MAX/MAX D or Callaway Epix MAX LS drivers. 21. I've tried a search on this Forum and Google and really not much in reviews for the "Lite'' version. Great reviews on the standard. Anyone try the the "Lite" version? Pros? Cons?
  22. This club was used for 9 holes before I decided to stay with my usual gamer. Rare to find this club with such a low grind. Asking $100 shipped.
  23. Recently I was struck by nostalgia and picked up a Launcher 460 Comp with stock Fujikura. I just wanted to look down at a normal shaped club head and reminisce about the good old days. I didn’t expect much performance-wise but oh man this thing hits bombs. It looks, feels, and performs better than any of the newer Ping and Taylormade drivers. Seriously if this driver were released tomorrow it would win all the accolades. MGS most wanted. GD gold medal. And on and on. Why in the world did they stop making drivers like this?
  24. In the spring I wrote the following post describing my trials and tribulations trying and testing new-ish clubs in an effort to upgrade my 20 year old set of Callaway X-12 irons and Big Bertha woods and after 30+ rounds and a couple of tournaments I thought I'd give an end of season update. Below is the bag I played more or less the whole summer...only major change from original post was the putter.... Callaway Rogue 9.0 - Aldila Synergy 50 reg Callaway Steelhead XR 5W 18* - Tensei CK Blue 55 reg OR Callaway XR 16 3W 15* - Fujikura Speeder Evo 565 reg Cobra King F6 2-3 hybrid 19* - Matrix Red Tie HQ4 70 reg Taylormade GAPR Hi 4 hybrid 21* KBS 70 reg Callaway Rogue Pro 5i-AW - UST Recoil 760 f3 Cleveland RTX-4 wedge 54* - Rotex 90 reg Cleveland Smart Sole 3 S 58* - Cleveland graphite reg Taylormade Spider mini 34" …..as it was putting that was my undoing for the most part score-wise over the summer. I was surprised how quickly (after a 7 year layoff from game) I got my ball-striking back to the high single digit handicap zone I used to be but putting kept me shooting in the low 80's for most of the season. Only had four 78-79 rounds and must have had twenty 80 or 81's haha - but was taking anywhere from 34 to (gak) 41 putts a round. Very frustrating....but I suppose that's what 7 years away can do to your touch/feel/consistency on the greens. Still getting used to the TM Spider Mini (having tried a Odyssey White Ice Rossi for first half of season) and like how it feels and lines up behind the ball...but it still rolls the ball better than both my old 20 year old putter and the newer Odyssey so finding judging weight and not rolling the ball too far past the hole still a challenge. Though I suppose if I just got the ball IN the hole in the first place I wouldn't be concerned with going too far by haha. At any rate, with practice the putting touch will come back...I hope. One thing I'd add and not to be making excuses but I've always putted with the pin out and with covid and pins staying in I always found myself distracted by the pin and always trying to hit it...the pin....as opposed to just finding the hole. Did anyone else find that a distraction or problem? As for the rest of the clubs was pretty happy with them. Wedges and Rogue Pro irons covered the gaps pretty well from 65 yds - 185 yds. Driver got better and better through the year...250 yd average I'd guess. And as for fairway woods I found I usually hit the 5 wood around 225 - 230 yds and the 3 wood only 230 yds and maybe 235 if I nutted it....so am looking at getting an Epic Flash 5 wood and lofting down to 17 degrees and losing the 3 wood altogether. That could open up bag for another wedge or more likely a GAPR Mid 4 set to 21 degrees or maybe one of the new TM DHY 4 utility irons (22*) - something to hit a lower stinger up to 215 yds on windy days or tight par 4's. That was a gap I found problematic - hit the 5 iron okay up to 185 yds max....and could hit the GAPR Hi or Cobra F6 hybrid up to 210 yds but they flew higher and opened door for trouble sometimes when windy or a tight fairway. Balls were a fun experiment - and ended up playing lower compression balls - the Bridgestone RXS the majority of the year, or the Srixon Q Star Tour. Hit the Srixon a little further but liked the decent distance with better spin around greens playing the Bridgestone. That said tried the Titleist AVX last week and used for two rounds....that ball is lonnnng with acceptable spin around greens - I may start off next year using it. So that's the update....fun to be back playing again and enjoying figuring out and getting used to and better with these new clubs - just have to get the putter back on track and working consistently again. Thanks for listening.
