  1. Local golf shop has a set of used Apex CF16 irons with SteelFiber i80 R-flex shafts (85 grams, mid launch). Might give them a tryout this snowy week. I have tried SteelFiber i95 shafts in both stiff and regular in used clubs. The stiffs were just hard to handle, and the regulars were a club shorter than most other irons. At February expo the TM crew set me up with M6 irons shafted with i80. The club launched well, but felt a bit feathery. One problem with the sub-95 gr. shafts is I tend to overswing. (By chance, I have a 75-gr. SteelFiber HLS hybrid shaft in my 4i; it works well but the club feels a bit light.) **Need advice on i80 shafts in CF16s...** 1. Would increasing the swingweight to D3 lessen overswing tendencies without hurting clubhead speed too much? 2. Could my swing tempo adjust to a lighter shaft? (I play 100-gr. in my current irons, and remember Tom Wishon's caution about not going "too light.") I think I might do better with something in the Recoil 95 range. I've hit those before in various irons, and they just seem smoother than SteelFibers. (I certainly would get a detailed fitting before I buy... I'm just trying to do some advance work)
  2. I'm self-fitting at home on Skytrak and lightweight shafts just seem to work best for my swing, and recently, the lighter/stiffer the better. I've got a new Phenom 50TX that I'll either be trying in a 5w or driver soon. Who else here prefers a lighter fairway setup opposed to the usual 70-80g ones?
  3. Recently, I decided to upgrade my set of Ping S56 irons that I've had in the bag since they came out. I hit everything out on the market at the moment from the i500 to the P760, P730 and everything in between. I am a scratch player but I don't play as much as I'd like. I carry my 7 iron about 180 on a good day and swing at about 114mph with a driver. I've always liked a slightly lighter shaft as I feel that it forces me to slow down and control my swing just slightly. I decided to go for the P760 head, but I am stuck between shafts. On one end, I really like the Nippon Modus3 105, but on the other end, the True Temper 120g X100 feels like butter too. I tried to play a Tour Issue X100 about a year ago and lost my swing with it and will not go back to a 130+ gram. With my swing speed and moderate tempo, will a 105g vs. 120g shaft really make too much of a difference? And is there a reason to favor Nippon over True Temper or vice versa? Any advice or direction is much appreciated as I haven't had much luck in discussions of these two shafts and weights when it comes to slightly higher swing speeds. Thank you!!
