I tied 6th in the second flight (Chad Hays). Two triples and a double in the first 36 holes sunk me. Through the first two rounds I was +8 on three holes, +5 the other 33. I was headed for a career round at Aguila but stumbled a bit on the back and finished bogey-triple.

I thought Papago was more score-able than I'd ever seen with receptive greens and friendly tees. I struck the ball fairly well but couldn't get a putt to fall in the hole to save my life; lipouts and burned edges all day. I felt my 80 was garbage then was surprised to see how many high scores were in all flights that day.

All in all I still had fun (despite an irritating playing partner the first two days) and finished in the money for the second straight year. It's only $93 bucks, but that will get me a couple dozen balls. They've got a great team running this event and I look forward to playing in it again next year. Hopefully I can get my driver worked out and earn my way into the first flight by then.

Yeah, I'm surprised to hear you guys thought the pins were tough. Other than 11, I didn't find any pins to be in crazy spots. What holes did you not like the setup of?

True, 10 made going for the green in two pointless. I hit my best drive of the day there and still laid up because there was no point in going for it. I don't recall the other pins being in bad positions, though.

Agreed....

1 Back, Back left.... three paces off the back and three paces off the high side left portion of the green.
2 Miss it by a yard right of pin and you were screwed, Oh and the wind was pushing everything right.
5 Pin was just over the bunker on the front edge... into a two club wind. I hit a full PW at 91 yards, my usual 135 club. Luckily it stayed pin high on the right side. Playing partner hit the same shot and the wind died... over the green.
6 Ugly pin placement.... just over the bunker on the left edge.
10 I hit the green in two on the left center side and three jacked the putt. enough said
11 I had to hit 8 iron to the back fringe and lag a putt back down to the pin. My buddy James while leading the 1st Flt dropped two balls in the water trying to hit to that pin.
15 just ugly.... not one straight put at the hole, everything curved.
17 I smashed a hybrid to the front third and had to hit a five footer for par.
