Phoenix Matchplay Tournament

Me and Mark were talking the other day about how cool it would be to set up a match play event. Instead of us all getting together on 1 day we could set up the brackets and have each match play out on their own time and report back here. That way we have a SW GolfWRX Matchplay champion. What do you guys think?

 

 

Everyone will play gross.

 

If you lose your gross match you will fall into a net bracket that will be played under the following rules.

 

 

 

Net will be played like this

 

Just saying, I have played in Match play events where the handicaps were involved.

Went like this....

- Higher handicap makes the decision if the match will be gross or handicapped.

- If the decision is gross the higher handicap picks the course and tees used.

- If its handicapped the lower handicap picks the course and the tees played.

- 60% is used for handicap

 

 

So far we have

 

All matched need to be played at City of Phoenix Courses. the 2 players must agree on the course and tee boxes you play from. If they players can not agree on a course then AGUILA will be the default.

 

(when/if you fall into the net bracket the higher handicap can choose any city course (including Par 3) if they feel it's an advantage)

My opinion would be flighted at gross, even if it ended up just being 2 or 3 flights total based on the interest.

I would do it. Flighted at gross or net at 60% - 80% of handicap. Papago Men's Club does it net at 80% handicaps.

I would rather just have 1 flight at 60%HC(or consensus)....I think it should be 1 flight because it is an opportunity for players of differing levels to play with better players.

We can do gross but 60% of handicap so if I'm a 3 and I'm playing a 10 I give up a stroke on the 5 hardest holes ... Something like that

60% of course handicap. So the differential of 7 would increase based on slope/113. Yes 5 would be in the ballpark.

I'm okay with anywhere...could be a default to avoid disagreements in the event people want diff courses.

Agreed.

I think we just make a bracket, with the goal of crowning a champ by summer or something.

I think that the courses we play should be one of the City of Phoenix courses. Whether it be Aguila, Maryvale, Encanto, Papago, or Cave Creek. All definitely awesome Matchplay courses.

Also, if someone is scheduled to play a match and does not show up (like some of the people at the outing) it's an automatic forfeit.

Well if not HC, you have to flight it....otherwise you exclude a lot of people. Like Mark and his 15HC...

Well do 2 brackets 1 championship with no handicap and 1 bracket of people that want to use 60% of their usga handicap. We'll see what the numbers are at that point. Random draw from a hat as well. Should we pay into a pot too or just bragging rights.?

I am in….no HDCP like kvn says…peg in the ground lets go even though I would prefer NOT on Sundays due to the NSMGA events….but I can make it work

Medicaptain, I think the point is that everyone has a period of time in which to play the match. You can do it whatever day works for you and your opponent.

Post which bracket you want to be in. Well lock the sign ups on March 14 and play will be the following week ... You'll have 2 weeks to play your match unless there are extraordinary circumstances (like me going to the masters lol)
