SchneeWRX- A Tradition Unlike Any Other

Schnee

Recommended Posts

This trip is something that I've been talking about incessantly, and one that many of you have probably seen me post about.

After 10 hours of travel, over 2000 miles, flight changes to avoid a Northeast snowstorm, and months of waiting, I'm finally in California to take in-person lessons with Monte. I figured that I would try and do this in a style similar to the CallaWRX threads in the level of detail and photos.

5D2D8613-D79D-4AF9-86A1-6EEA493D2A22.jpg

The purpose of this thread is twofold. First, I want to be able to document the changes to my swing over the next three days, and get the swing changes down in words so that I can reference them in the future. It'll be similar to my swing progress thread here: http://www.golfwrx.c...ss-monteiteach/

Second, I want to show what it's like to see Monte for multiple days and try and convince people to do the same. I'm so psyched to improve my game this week and I'm sure others would like to do the same in the future. I'll talk about my accommodations and of course the lessons themselves

For the sake of clarity on where my posts are coming from, here's a little about me:

I'm from the northeast, and although I've travelled up and down the East Coast, I've never been West of the Mississippi until now.

This season will be my fourth year playing golf. My handicap was in the single digits before last summer, but went up to a 12 last year when my swing was rife with issues. Video lessons with Monte started to set me back on course. I won't get into it too much more, but you can look at my other thread to get a picture of my game.

During this trip I'll be staying at the Laguna Hills Lodge (1 night) and the Wyndham Avenue of the Arts (2 nights). Both are within 15 miles of Oak Creek. The night at Laguna was a last minute addition due to my flight change.

I landed at LAX this afternoon. I had to switch my flight to today instead of tomorrow to beat the "snowstorm" in the NE. Seems as though it's not going to be much, but it only cost me for the hotel and rental car for the extra day. My original flight was cancelled by the airline so no loss there. In all honesty I'm glad I have an extra day to adjust to Pacific time and get settled in.

My first meal was obviously In-N-Out. I can say, it totally lives up to the hype. I went with a 3x3, well done fries and a vanilla shake. Next time I'll go with a double double. I was stuffed!

The room at the Laguna Hills Lodge is really nice. I wasn't expecting much but for a lodge it's very comfy. No real complaints here. I would suggest this as one possible place to stay if you come out to see Monte. It's early to end for me tonight because tomorrow is a big day! Time to start on the path toward improvement!

Some before swings would be nice. Have fun and good luck. I'd love to do something like that. That is some serious dedication that I doubt my wife would approve of.

Two predictions about this week:

1) My handicap drops hugely
2) I'll need a bigger belt and to hit the gym
With all the swings you will be doing you will burn it off in no time!!!

Sounds like it's going to be a great time. I'm sure you will keep is up to date!!!

Damn man. First and only time I had In-n-Out was in Folsom California. I was there for a wedding. That s*** is so good!

I don't know why, but I thought you were going to say you were there for 4 years for armed robbery...

bought out by private equity.

I just don't get In and Out. Smells great, tastes like adz. IMHO, YMMV, etc.

If you want a good burger while you're here, the Classic Q in Newport Beach is pretty good or you could schlep up to Huntington Beach and go to 25 Degrees.

Looking forward to seeing more.

Don't get the in-n-out thing either. We have a few here in Fort Worth now and it just doesn't hold a candle to whataburger. Best I can tell its the mystique like long ago when you couldn't get coors light east of the Mississippi so when eastern folks got it it was a big deal even though coors light is essentially flavored water

Monte teaches at Oak Creek?? Holy crap I was out there and newport for a week this summer and had no idea....
Highlight of my trip there was hitting it over that big tree on the left side of number 9 3 straight times. I think I had between 70-90 yards into the green each time.... Awesome course!!! We went to Strawberry Farms too and it was pretty nice. Not as pretty as Oak Creek but definitely had some awesome holes. Really cool area!

Colors light = Coors Light?

You've gotta let the locals know when you're coming. Oak Creek is a nice track, but I've always thought Strawberry was too tight. Spend half my time playing 4 iron, 4 iron. Give Oak Quarry and Oak Valley a try next time you're out here.

4x1 (that's 4 patties, one cheese for the layman), fries, strawberry-chocolate shake does the job pretty well.

Enjoy California, good thing you weren't here Friday or Saturday, weather was nasty
Au contraire! It was lovely. Californians don't golf in drizzle. Pace of play was great!

My biggest question is if Monte can get on that par 5 on the back at strawberry in 2.....

Yes

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.
