Geoff Jones told me he held a set of Hogan's clubs. Extremely flat, thick grips with a strip of coat hangers under the back of the grip. He said you could shave with the edge he had on them.

Way different turf conditions now compared to '53. What we think of "hardpan" they thought of as "fairway."

Me too. If you go back and look at club design throughout the years, there really wasn't such a thing as blunted/rolled leading edges until courses started being irrigated with some regularity.

Didn't he also shave the driver a certain way so it would be very hard to even draw it?

Is it possible to have like a reverse gear effect.....a heel hit makes it fade...but also a toe hit makes it fade. Can the wood head be shaved a certain way to make that happen? That would be something.
