Garnett torn on entry into Arnold Palmer Invitational

March 19, 2014

There are two things PGA TOUR rookie Brice Garnett has always wanted when it comes to golf: to play in Arnie’s event, the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard; and to play in a tournament with Tiger Woods. Well, as fate would have it, the Missouri native is in this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, just not with Tiger. He’s in it because of Tiger.

When the eight-time and defending champion of the Arnold Palmer Invitational was forced to withdraw Tuesday afternoon with lingering back issues, Garnett, the first alternate, got the call.

“I had just finished a practice round with Lucas Glover and Hudson Swafford, and was hitting balls on the range,” Garnett recalled. “Lucas came over to me and said ‘I’ve got some good news for you. Tiger’s out.’ I felt bad for Tiger, but was super-happy for me to have the chance to play in Mr. Palmer’s event.”

Replacing Woods’ star-power will be impossible, but Garnett has the opportunity to make an impression on the golf world this week as he will be grouped with two-time TOUR winner Harris English and former U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell for the first two rounds. Having made eight of nine cuts entering this week’s action, Garnett credits Woods for his inspiration to play professionally.

“When Tiger was having his heyday in the early 2000s, it was right around the end of high school, beginning of college for me,” Garnett recalled. “I was trying to decide what to do in life. I really looked up to Tiger and loved watching him dominate. I’ve always wanted to play in a tournament with him.”

Next time, perhaps. But for now, thank him.

David Duval made an appearance on Golf Central and he was talking about how Bay Hill is playing this week.

Duval was amazed at how fast the greens were before some rain slowed them a tad the other night. He said they were stimping at 13 or higher.

The group at GC described the course as "U.S. Open from the tee, and Augusta National around the greens."

The weather forecast looks great; mostly sunny, warm and breezy all four days.

Adam Scott -6 thru seven?

I'm assuming he takes over the top spot in the rankings with a win this week...
[/quote]

Unfortunately not, with Tiger and Day pulling out not enough points on offer.

Ahhh... interesting! Thank you!

He wouldn't be #1 on Monday, but he would become #1 the week before the Masters (assuming Tiger doesn't play in Texas). So technically a win would get him to #1.

Sooooo good. When he's on its about as good as it gets. I hope he is able to transition from the belly putter without too much trouble.

As an aside, you have to have one of the most unique WITB I've ever seen. Awesome.

L.A.B. Golf is choosing ten GolfWRX members to receive their MEZZ.1 putter early and put their brand new product to the test before reporting back to the community about what they see. The selected testers will be one of the first to experience the MEZZ.1 from L.A.B. GOLF, their newest Lie Angle Balanced design, ahead of it's January 2022 launch!

About The L.A.B. Golf Mezz.1 Putter
MEZZ.1 is our new mid-mallet putter that’s fully CNC machined from a billet of 6061 aircraft aluminum (body) and 303 stainless steel (midsection) to create our best-feeling — and we think best looking — putter to date. It includes 10 weights (eight on the bottom, two on the sides) that allow us to individually build each putter to a golfer’s exact specifications.

      How To Apply
In a post below, answer the following questions.

      1. City, State?
      2. Handicap?
      3. What is your current putter?
      4. Have you ever used a L.A.B. Golf putter?
      5. Why do you want to review the MEAZZ.1 putter?
      6. Do you agree to participate in an ongoing testing thread, posting reviews and photos?

That's it! @labgolf and GolfWRX will choose the testers in about 2 weeks! This testing event is for good-standing members in the USA only!
