The butt end has a weight plug in it. However, he's not totally SOL - I looked into this with my own SL putter and, though I didn't end up going through with it, it's not that hard to get around. The weight is just glued in, so just apply a little heat and pull it out with some pliers or a screw. Cut the shaft, and glue the weight back in.
