Whats up guys.
Wondering how the Ping D.I. is out of the rough/ off the fairway?
It looks like you can kill if off the tee but other lies...?
Thanks for the input.
Surprisingly, it is very versatile and I can easily play it for the rough or fairway. Last summer, I pulled a tee shot just left of the fairway and it was a super tight, almost hard pan type lie. I had 290 to the flag and figured I would hit the DI up there just short of the green (typical shot for me is 265-275 with it). I ended up hitting a beautiful tight draw that went past the flag. I was shocked. Point of the story is that it has performed from almost any lie that I have had. Only one I may be hesitant on is if the ball is sitting down in heavy rough. Other than that, green light.

What up everyone,

Thanks for all the input earlier about the Ping DI.
Mine just came in yesterday.
Gonna hit it today and see how it is.
Surprisingly it isn't as heavy as I wanted it to be, but well see how it goes.
It looks pretty sexy though.
Ill let you all know my thoughts in case you were interested in getting one for yourself.

Best,
JD

So I used the Ping Rapture DI a few days last week.
I like it and it feels good and it is pretty easy to control.
However, the weight of the club is a big issue.
Compared to the Titleist, Callaway and Mizuno Utilities I tested, the Ping really seems to be significantly lighter.
It may be more forgiving but the actually feel of the club is something to be concerned about.
I will say that when I hit it good, it goes and isn't really too tough to hit off the fairway.
To add to that, it nearly eliminated my left miss which was a great quality because I think we all now how hard a hybrid can be snap hooked.
As stated earlier by many of you, we wish they made different lofts other than 18 degrees. (hitting it higher isn't a bad thing)
All in all I give it a 7 out of 10.

Let me know what you guys rate this club out of ten.
Also, any experience with led tape here? it could use some.

Best,
JD

Where can I buy one of these things to try out? Saw a few on eBay but I really need silver dot.
You should try a Golf Galaxy(in store, not online) or some place that you can get it custom fit. (online retailers mostly have black dot as you know)

Sucks you cant customize online or order right from Ping.
Goodluck, lemme know how it goes.

You should also try the Titleist Utility, I actually really liked that one, the Callaway one was pretty sweet as well.

I went to my local Golfsmith and I was only able to try one because the Ping guy at the store had one laying around his house.
Interesting that you mention the Titleist 712U.. I went to try out the Rapture and they had a custom 712U on trade in with a Matrix Ozik HX3 shaft in it and it felt amazing. It was a 3 iron though

Some bad news... can't order it anymore. I get the feeling this one will be a cult classic fast...
Yeah the rapture is great and all but I think if I could do it all over again I would go for the 712u 3 iron.
Who needs to his a hybrid 270, its annoying that Ping only offers that club in one loft. (it is nice looking and I honestly like the utility look over the classic wooded-hybrid look)
3 iron hybrids are easier to hit off the ground and have a higher trajectory which is important when hitting into a green.
Unless you tee the rapture up or have a ridiculously good lie you can basically only hit bullets.(I know that's why its called a D.I. Driving Iron)
It will be a good club in windy conditions, or on super tight courses, but the previous guy talking about how it doesn't really fit the gap of yardage is on point.(animalgolfs)
Holding the green is more important than hitting bullets that roll out for miles.

Feel free to chime in here.

JD, that's the point of the club. It's not going to hold any green on purpose. It's for those of us who can't hit woods off the ground. They are bullets, and that's exactly what I want. No need to tee it, though I do ever so slightly. Low into the wind, with lots of roll. Make no mistake; it is a purpose-driven design. In the southwest US, it's very handy when you can get it "below" the wind and let it roll out.

Well I shafted it up with the new iRod -1/2" orange dot. Honestly don't know if I'll be able to hit it consistently, but the last 2 weeks I have multiple times per round I could've used this club.

I dig the ferrule. :)

14 Pings. Blueprints are incredibly good. Fetch is the most underrated putter on the market. Don't @ me.

How do you like the irod shaft? I just put two of them into my 913h's and I absolutely love them. They are just so smooth.

Nah I gotcha man.
The Rapture DI meets the needs for windy conditions, British Open style.
Just wish they made it in a higher loft because roll isn't something to rely on here in the northeast.
Conditions are generally soft and the ability of hitting it high is important.

Like said before, great looking club, weight of the head could be a bit heavier, all in all solid club you can rip.

Thanks for the insight boys.
Maybe ill have to get over to the OKC area and hit some bullets.

Be safe with those tornadoes goin round.

Probably best hybrid shaft I've played....plus I love my Recoils

Played the old iRod CB for quite awhile, so easy transition
I'm in the same boat. I love my recoils so the new iRod jumped to the top of my list of hybrid shafts to try when I saw it come out and it has not disappointed.

I absolutely love the setup I have in mine. Like others have mentioned (animalgolfs & rpaige) I have the new UST Irod 105F5 instead of the stock TFC 949X. I also felt the original swingweight to be too light and also awkwardly long. I had my Irod shaft cut to 3 iron length (-1.5" or so shorter than stock). This turned out to be an absolute genius move on my part. The setup feels much more natural and "iron-like" also the heavier hybrid shaft offers an improved and satisfactory heft to wrinkle out any concerns with swingweight. Moreover, I find it to be more versatile. It's like shooting skeet, just point and shoot and your ball goes right where you aim it.

After reading through all comments I want one! Unfortunately the club is not available anymore, hopefully I can find one in a store, even though I only saw one once. Then I would have to change the shaft, too. If I cannot get the Ping, I would just buy a Mizuno MP H5 2-iron, and put a heavy Hybrid shaft in. Did anybody hit both clubs and could compare them?
