Knee pain, need some suggestions

Tanner25

Recommended Posts

I tried one of the swing tips here, keeping my right foot down while swinging and now I have knee pain. (right knee for a rightie). I can't go for an MRI right now. I was just curious if anyone has any suggestions? Should I try a supplement like Glucosmine, MSM? Are there any exercises you recommend?

Thanks, in advance

I don't know if you're overweight or not, but if you are drop a few.

Seriously.

I suffered knee pain for several years, I lost 40+ pounds and my knees (and lots of other ailments) cured themselves.

Supplements help as you age, coupled with stretching and exercise.

Bottom line: It sucks getting old.

Good Luck!

I've had many knee injuries that have led to cronic knee pain. The best cure I've come up with, short of surgery, is to work out your knee. Build up the muscle around it to help support. You should be able to find some physical therapy type work out online. Feel free to PM me with the specifics of the location of pain, and I can help guide you towards the types of strengthing I use for that area.

BTW, dont worry, I'm not telling you to join and gym or work out religiously. These are all things you can do in your living room. Some even while laying in bed or sitting.

I would stop trying that "tip". Known Fact: WRX can be dangerous to your health (physically and financially).

Ice after use, rest and some Advil should take care of it.

Totally agree with Binary. I am a runner and I hurt my knee about two years ago. Too stubborn to rest it, the other knee was subsequently hurt and other injuries crept up. Long story short, it took over a year to be pain free and learned so much about injury prevention and cure. Learned about proper running technique to prevent injuries. Still taking Glucosamine/Chondroitin. Used to supplement it with MSM as well. Strengthen the knee and the area around it. The internet was a valued resource for me. Read up on your situation and work hard at it. Now I can actually play golf and run without pain. Good luck.

I've been taking Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM for a long time now. It works for me but it doesn't work for everyone. When a friend first told me to try it I told him after a month I didn't feel any results. He said it takes a while of use to get any results so I stuck with it. After another month I starting feeling some relief. Later on I stopped taking it. I figured I was cured. My problems came back so I'm went back on it. It took a while again for it to work. Since then I have stayed on it. I'm a believer. Just wanted to let you know it's not a quick fix but does work for some people if you give it time. It's not a fix to your problem but may help with some relief.

Some great advice on here. I am like Mr. Neoprene, have a little arthritis in left knee and some tendinitis in wrists. Uses your own body heat. Works for me.

RICE buddy... Rest, ice, compression, elevation.

Also, I started wearing zero drop shoes while working out and playing golf (true links wear, puma faas lite, etc) and my knee rarely aches

First thing to do is rest, then rest, and then rest some more. Tweaking your knee can lead to all sorts of problems if you don't rest. I was really into fitness when I was younger, was training to do the Ironman Triathlon. Went to go see a chiropractor friend of mine, she examines my knees and tells me that I have great knees for a 60 year old man, I was 26 at the time. Had to cut back on a lot of things, gained a lot of weight which excerbated all my problems. Took awhile but finally got back into some semblance of shape. Knees feel great, its everything else that hurts. But building up your leg strength is crucial, as is stretching. Supplements are fine, if that's what you need... if you don't, don't spend the money. But for now rest and now that you know that not lifting your right knee streeses it, lift your knee or roll your ankle... don't stress that body part.

Not sure where you are feeling pain but for what's it worth: I was in a lot of pain a couple of years ago and really thought I tore something in my knee. Was really effecting my swing. Went for physio and the guy diagnosed me with a tight IT band. i got a hard foam roller and rolled it out for a few days and the pain completely disappeared.
That being said - get it checked out. You need real advice from professional.

Thanks, Golfer X. Good advice. I will stay off it. It is hard to fight the urge to swing in the house or go on the range after 30 years of continuous golfing and related practice.
