Going to Cabo Next Week

Recommended Posts

I'm headed to cabo next week and was hoping to play a round somewhere. We are staying at the pueblo bonito sunset beach and we were really hoping that Quivara would be open but it seems like it will open later this year. Not looking at sitting through a timeshare presentation to get on at Diamante and I can't fork out $350 for Cabo Del Sol so I was thinking about playing something out of these three courses: Cabo Real, Club Campestre, or Pamilla. I know people like Puerto Los Cabos but that seems a little to far and likely Campestre will be too far as we don't have a car. It seems like Cabo San Lucas country club is not worth the money.

I haven't seen much talk about Palmilla on here. Any thoughts?

Besides for Teeoff.com is there any place to get discounts on rounds?

Is there anyway to get on at Diamante without sitting through the timeshare presentation?

Thanks

I called cabo del sole to see what kind of rates would be available. They have discounted rates depending on what hotel you are staying in (I am staying in a place that has discounted rates with this course). But, it turns out they are aerating the greens this weekend (or the beginning of next week) on the ocean course. Even with the discounted rate paying that much to play on freshly aerated greens would be a bummer.

I played the Desert course at Del Sol last week...the greens were sanded but rolled well. I played 36, first 18 was $225 and second was $70ish. I received a $50 proshop certificate with my tee time...not sure if it was due to aeration. I was annoyed because they made no mention of it when I booked and I had to buy my fiancé a $80 sleeveless polo for her to ride with me. She was wearing a silk shirt that covered her shoulders and that wasn't good enough. I've never had that problem and she's tagged along to a bunch or exclusive courses. I played Cabo Country Club as a warm up ($70 on tee off) and the course was in decent shape, I was satisfied.

Thanks for the update. When I called cabo del sol yesterday they mentioned that due to the aerification each player would get a $50 pro shop credit. Staying in a hotel that has a discount with them I would be paying $255 to play in the morning before 10:30. A great deal for that course but still pricey when factoring in the cost of a cab ride to get there and back. Thats silly that they complained about your fiance's shirt.

What did you think of the cabo country club layout? You're probably the only person on this site that has had a positive review about that course.

It is helpful that I will be in cabo after June 1st as that is when the prices shift down for the low season but it is still quite expensive to play golf there when you factor in the cost of getting your clubs down there and the cab rides too and from the course.

Thanks for the info on Cabo San Lucas Country Club and the new management. Heading down there the same time you are and a buddy and I are trying to decide where we are going to play. Wanted to play Cabo del Sol, but with my game, it would be hard to justify dropping that much coin, regardless of the experience.

I'm sure you have read about the package deal with the Cabo Real, Club Campestre and Puerto Los Cabos. I think we are going to do a two round package and it was a lot cheaper than I thought at $240 a person. I'm staying at Villa del Arco, which I think is pretty close to where I think you are staying. Cab ride on google maps looked to be about 15 minutes from where we are staying.

I played Cabo Real last year in November. You should be able to get a good rate at most resorts. The course is very tough on the back 9. Great views but there was only one seaside hole. Course was great!

Compestre was also good but the zoizia (sp) grass was brutal. Not much run on the fairways and played super long.

Usually there are reasonable taxi prices if you need a ride to and from and the folks at both courses were professional and courteous.

Thanks for the heads up. The hotel we are at is actually on the pacific ocean closer to Diamante so cab rides for us will be a little longer. That is a pretty good deal at $240 a person for 2 rounds. I didn't see that price listed on their website.

I read about it on here in one of the older Cabo posts and called Cabo Real and my hotel concierge to see if it was still an option.

Puerto Los Cabos also has an all inclusive offer for an extra $20 for food and drinks. Not sure what you get for that but it seems like a gamble worth taking.

I watched a video that golf channel did about puerto los cabos. They have "comfort stations" every 4 holes that are basically little bar's that have fresh food and full beverage selection all you can eat and drink I think. Seems like a great deal.

Interestingly enough I looked at some recent trip advisor reviews of the cabo san lucas country club. It sounds like they are under new management and they have really improved the course conditions.

I wouldn't pay the standard rates for the Country Club. The discounted tee times were always at 11am, when I looked. I'm pretty easy to please, course wise, so I might not be the best for course advice. I thought it was a good warm up round. The greens rolled true but were a little slow and grainy. I've read a few places that it's the hardest course in Cabo? The par 3's are really tough and a couple long par 5's into the teeth of the wind.

I played the cabo country club this morning. Got a tee time on teeoff for $61 a person at 9:10am. Good price I thought. Course was pretty empty so we got to go out about 20 minutes early. Staff was nice and I thought the course was in really good condition. The course doesnt have the dramatic elevation changes that most cabo golf courses seem to have but it had some nice views and some challenging holes. Most of the par 3's were pretty tough and long. I am not used to playing on Bermuda grass so putting and shots from the rough were a little tough. Greens were pretty slow. All and all I enjoyed the course and had fun playing it. I'd recommend it to anyone that doesn't want to spend a ton playing down in cabo. I took a bunch of pictures that I'll try to post later.

Haha you're experience was the exact same as mine. I'm happy it went well. I agree on the Par 3's.
