Bermuda Trouble - Winter Kill

I live and play golf in Western Kentucky / North Central Tennessee and because of the bad winter many courses around here have winter kill in their Bermuda fairways. There are a lot of courses that have nearly lost ALL their fairways. Very few have not been affected. Most courses are at least a month behind their normal growing season, and some will have to be resprigged completely.

 

My question is, how far south has the winter kill gone?

The winter kill has done a number on courses about 20-30 miles south of Nashville,TN. Played at RTJ Muscle Shoals at end of March and they had areas of it as well just not as bad as further North.

Some courses on the north side of Atlanta have experienced winter kill as well.

I'm 60 miles south of Nashville and many of the courses around here have the same damage. I also played both courses at The Shoals a few weeks ago and both still showed signs of damage. The Schoolmaster was in worse shape though. Played Bear Trace at Tims Ford today and the damage seemed to be limited to some tee boxes. Fairways were nice.

Had some Bermuda greens not fair well in Texas.

My club located in the North Georgia Mtns. had quite a bit of winter kill. A number of tees and fringes around the greens are having to have the grass replaced.

There is a bunch in Atlanta. Zoysia, bermuda, St Aug, centipede all having issues. A lot of spring dead spot disease too.

We have brown circles in our fairways. Green Sup said it wasn't winter kill but a fungus. He can keep the fungus out of the greens but too expensive to spray fairways. They are starting to fill in and should be covered in a few weeks.

That's spring dead spot disease. Will fill in soon. Happens every year.
