Surprisingly easy to hit and launches much higher than a normal 1 iron. Originally bought as an experiment but now it’s a part of the weekly rotation.

Did a proper fitting with the Honma experience and have to say, very impressed so far.  Some of the best feeling irons I’ve played.  Had them bent weak to match my old lofts as these are a tad strong.  Virtually no offset which is awesome.  More impressive I think are the new wedges.  They feel so dense and solid and spin as good as anything.

Very nice set up. Honma wedges and irons are very good (not counting the gaudy gold ones that go for $3k plus). 

 

It looks like they are the World W21 wedges? I was a big fan of the previous T World wedges, which just looked perfect at address. The lack of sole grinds, shafts options and availability let them down however. The W21s look like a step up in the sole grind and loft options at least. 

 

Could you indulge us with some more pics of the wedges?

Brand new Ping Zing2 irons. Confirmed by Ping: as made for a ‘Tour player’ in 2006 and never struck a shot in anger since….

Yeah, I can next week.  Traveling for work until Monday.

 

They have a couple more sole grinds on this release as well as they moved cg around, which most do but it really made a difference.  Also, they added some weight to the toe side with that bronze looking insert in the cavity.  They feel very stable.

 

They added a c grind which is very similar to an m grind from vokey.  Also, they have a full sole which is a wide sole grind in the 58 & 60.  The higher lifted wedges have more mass on the top line towards the toe as well, which is the cg move.  The i sole has more trailing edge relief than the tw-4.  They glide through the turf.  Similar to an s grind Vokey.

oh wow. My old man played those irons from as young as I can remember through 2019. Never seen what they actually look like in their new state. Btw, what’s the hosel diameter?

I know - amazing right ? I'm an old school eqpt player. So to get an older favourite set - but with no wear and sharp grooves is incredible. And YES - not often you see the original tumbled finish on a set of Ping irons these days..........

 

I did research the shafts before purchase. and it appears the shafts are .355 tip diameter.

 

Can't wait to whack these in anger 🙂

If you look carefully my "D" switch is a little wonky though I need to fix it. Something got messed up when I had to de-solder these switches from a different PCB onto this one

Picked her up for a song from 3balls, can’t believe how forgiving it was with such a compact head. Shaft is sweet in a fairway too, so the honeymoon is in full effect. Replaced a TS2 13.5°. 

 

*swapped the weights since the pic, heavy 14g is now in the back to promote a little higher launch.
