Played this morning with the 3 and 5 Ping Eye woods, along with a "modern" driver. Hit the 3W as long as the driver, mostly about 220 or so when I connected. The course was empty at 8:00 am, women start at 9:00. I hit tee shots with both the driver and 3W off the tee. Maybe, the driver was 5-10 yards difference, at max.

Callaway and Taylormade don't want you to know that the old stuff is just as good as new. Ping doesn't want you to know, either.

Friend had a Ping driver back when I started playing in the early 1980's. It was huge compared to most other drivers back then. Contact felt very muted and solid. Easy to hit too compared to most other drivers. I think it would be fun to build a 1980's bag, and some Ping woods would be welcome.

I am not sure of the specs on the Ping woods, too lazy to research at the moment, but I know that when I adjusted the swing weight of an old eye2 driver, I drilled a small cavity, inserted a couple of ounces of lead, plugged it up, that it started acting right for me. Always felt the 3 in the eye2 and the blonde zings swing better than the drivers. The added weight, for me, gave the driver a better feel,

Recently I took my G15 9deg driver out of the bag in favor of hitting my Ping Eye2 3W off the tee. Also have the Eye2 5W in the bag. The swing weight of these clubs are C8 and I added 6" of 1/2 lead tape to the back of them to bring the swing weight up. I like to hit down on all my shots including driver which doesn't work well all the time with my G15. My next driver I get will be a "mini" type 12-14deg. But I don't think I'm giving up anything taking the old 3W off the tee...actually....shot my best 9 today without it.

I remember when those old Ping fairways were considered HUGE, I used to wonder how you got them off the ground, the face seemed so deep..

I've been taking these out for a quick 9 in the evening the last few weeks and I love them. complete Ping set I restored last year, my total cost was under $300 for the clubs.
