Anybody see Stacy Lewis's press conference for the Womens Open. She didnt have too many positive things to say regarding Li due to the fact of her being 11. I think when you win you sectional by 7 shots it doesnt matter how old you are, you got game.

I watched the interview......Where was the hating......WRX needs to post the meaning of the word hate on the top of their home page and make everyone that wants to join the forum, read and memorize it.

I agree with you. I watched it and did not see anything resembling "hating".

As a parent of two little girls, I would not allow them to compete at that level until they were mature enough to handle everything that comes with it. If it were golf and golf alone, that's one thing but all of the residuals have a greater affect. I can't think of a single person who was hurt by waiting for the opportunity at the right time. However, the list of those hurt by entering the arena too early is lengthy and the damage is great.

It is a parents decision though and we all parent differently. I am simply saying, this is what I would do. I hope this is not another case of a parent living through the kid!

Personally as a professional golf fan, it kind of cheapens the lpga a little when a 11 or 12 year girl can play in their open. I have an 11 year old and I wouldn't under any circumstance allow her to do this, her time will come if she so chooses. Right now my daughter has a hard time choosing what to wear every day much less if she has the mental and physical stamina to handle a US Open. I really and truly see no benefit for her to do this above and beyond her going and winning a Jr tournament. I think they should put an age limit on it like 14 or 15 maybe. I understand she played and won it's her right but it's not just about her, it's also about her playing partners, LPGA sponsors, her parents etc.. At the end of the day, it's not that big of deal but I completely understand Stacey's position. Your now opening the door for the little girls parents to think she's the greatest player ever and push her focus on golf instead of school and life. We've seen such a tragedy in the LPGA in the past year, it can easily turn into an obsession for the parent and tragedy for the kid. I'm not saying it will happen but it opens the door and let's be honest some parents can't handle it much less the kids.
1) how does one become a 'professional' golf fan?...is there a course or certification program to become one?

2) The USWO is an event run by the USGA....there are no LPGA sponsors.

3) What LPGA tragedy occurred in the past year? If you are referencing the Erica Blasberg suicide....it unfortunately occurred in May 2010.....and yes...IMO....from what I've seen and heard...Mel does seem like a piece of work. RIP Erica.

Pardon my use of slang. Here is the urban dictionary definition of "hating" that I was referring to http://www.urbandict...php?term=hating

I just dont understant why the #1 player in the world would attempt to put a negative light on someone who a)qualified for an open championship (by 7 strokes to say the least) and b) and 11 year old girl who herself said she is out there to have fun, learn a lot from the pros, and could care less about the outcome. Isnt WRX constantly complaining about growing the game. As world #1 you should consider yourself and ambassador to the game. I think it stings a little that lewis played four years in college and has had to work extremely hard to get to where she is at and she is in a press conferecne at a US Open answering questions about an 11 year old. Sour grapes. The girl has game, if she wants to play she can play. We dont need all the speculation that her "parents are making her focus on golf" and all that bs because in nothing that I have seen or read has it said anything other than she picked up the game watching her brother at the driving range and she is there to have fun. Do you think an 11 year old that was being forced to play would be walking around the US Open grounds with a teddy bear or skipping through the fairway? I dont think so.
So you got from the press conference that Stacy Lewis is jealous.......Not what i got from it, but not uncommon for people to look at something and not take it the same way.

Even though we may not look at it the same way I do respect your opinion but I wouldn't go as far to say jealous (sour grapes was a poor word choice) I think a more accurate description would be annoyed. Her tone surrounding her comments did no reflect a genuine concern it reflected (TO ME) that because she is 11 she shouldn't have been afforded the opportunity to play and she just seemed all around tiffed at the distraction of having to answer a bunch of questions in a press conference about an 11 year old

I watched it and definetly think she was taking the approach of " I wouldn't let my kid do this". I'm an 8th grade teacher and I'm amazed/saddened how much some parents push a sport on their kids. One girl plays on a travel softball team based 2 hours away. She misses a crapload of school and I wouldn't be shocked if she burns out before college. If my kids ever have a talent that can take them far, I will support them 100%, but I'll also make sure they still have a childhood Think about it, this girl can't even see a PG-13 movie without a parent or guardian!
Which is all fine and dandy. Everyone is so quick to judge and assume that parents are always pushing them too far. How do you know that it is not what the kid wants? I had a bunch of friends who played on travel hockey teams growing up. They were gone a lot but it was what they WANTED to do. We still hung out and acted like kids but their parents gave them the choice and they chose to play. And most of the time the parents have to be equally if not MORE involved to make it happen in regards to buying equipment, lessons, practice, tournament fees, travel, lodging. It is a large commitment.

I have a young son (too young right now for golf but soon!!) and if it was something that he wanted to pursue I would 100% support that.
I don't disagree with anything you just said. One of my juniors (I coach golf) won't be coming back for his senior season because he's focusing on baseball, which is the sport that will get him into college. I supported his decision 100% (though it sucks that the 5 of the 6 players on my state runner up team aren't returning ;)) because I know its something HE wanted. That girl I mentioned earlier told me she was getting burned out. She actually wanted to try out for the junior high track team instead of JV softball just for a change of pace ( she would still play on the 2 or 3 travel teams she's on), Dad wouldn't allow it. In that situation, it's definitely the parent's pushing something that maybe the child is growing tired of. The fine line is whether what the kid wants is the best thing for the kid (which is why parenting is so difficult)

I personally would be very proud if my daughter or son were able to qualify at such a young age...they are prodigies....the odds are so few.

Lucy is simply this year's Guan Tinglian story for 2014....she'll play the USGA....likely miss the cut and then move on with her life without further media attention until she does something else at the world's greatest stage.

Stacy Lewis sucks personality wise.
Maybe she caught lightning that week to qualify, maybe she flames out miseably this week, but I bet she still leaves with a smile on her face, and that might be more than we can say for many of the professionals. I don't get the feeling (from her interviews) like she is treating this as anything more than a great experience and that it is going to be a lot of fun.

Just bits and pieces but the tone in the actual interview was very negative.
Agree....her demeanor was negative.
It is not by chance or accident that Lewis's nickname in the LPGA folder iare Ms Pouty Face or SNaP.

SNaP just seems like a sore loser....remember what happen in Beijing.
SNaP's poor attitude in the 1st two matches at the 2011 Solheim.
SNaP whining about a ruling for a competitor (Ciganda?) after the match had ended to a RO at the 2013.

I'd love to see SNaP say face to face what she said in the presser to fellow pros....Lexi & Morgan...when they qualified for the USWO at age 12.

It's easy not to root for SNaP.

'That's the Spirit".....from her Marathon commercials.....LMAO.
This x1000

Stacy Lewis behaviour when she lost to Feng in china was abominable .. someone should have asked how she felt about lexi and morgan playing at that age .. there's a consistent theme there .. yeah i'm sayin it

that marathon commercial is a JOKE

on The Golf Channel this morning, I believe it was Tim Rosaforte who said the best thing that could happen for this kid would be that she misses the cut by 15 strokes and goes home, back to being a kid. Does that make him a "hater"?
If you don't like Stacey Lewis, you're going to put a totally negative spin on her comments. She probably could have worded her statement better so as to not set off people who would be negatively predisposed to anything she said about Li, but maybe she's not inclined to sling as much BS as others so everyone thinks she's "sweet".

It's not how...it's how many

So then where was the uproar when Lexi Thompson or Morgan Pressel qualified at what 12? I didnt see very much concern for her getting burnt out. Her issue which she flat out said was "id like to see kids when more on every level before they come get beat up out here. She should play in the US AM and in match play and learn how to win". Which she has already qualified and played in the US Womens AM and made it all the way to match play in the US Womens Pub LInks. I am all for her speaking her mind and/or showing concern (if there was any) but just like she complained about the shot on 18 in Bejing and getting beat by a bad shot she should have learned and chosen her words more carefully

I'm surprised at the number of people in this thread under the impression that kids five or six years removed from full potty training just Forrest Gump their way to a plus handicap.

She's being pushed, folks, and pushed hard. THAT is what Stacey Lewis, John Feinstein and a host of others are concerned about.

Thanks for contributing, pass the paddle down the line. Stacy Lewis has a history with these types of "honest" comments. She's put her foot in her mouth on several occasions. I'd say that's why you're gonna find some of the stoning, pilloring, vilifying and excoriating.

So noone had a problem with Lexi Thompson or Morgan Pressel playing the open at 12??? but an 11yo.. OH MY GOD NOOOOOO for the sake of childhood ...

Stacy is also forgetting that Lexi played as a 12 year old (Lucy beat Lexi's previous age record by 8 months or so).

Maybe Ms. Lewis didn't realize Ms. Thompson was only 12 at the time. Ms. Thompson at 12 was probably taller than Ms. Lewis, and therefore may have seemed older.

Maybe she thinks 12 is ok but 11 is not. Not to split hairs here but 11 is younger than 12. Gotta draw a line somewhere I guess.
