True tours....comfortable for walking 18 ?

I bought a pair of True tours last year and the first time I wore them I could indeed feel mother earth beneath my feet. In fact I could feel every earthworm bump and pebble as I walked the course. Came away disappointed and bought a similar but different product from Footjoy.

 

Today I decided to give them another try as I may have worn them three times last year.

 

Same result....mother earth was still there along with the bumps and pebbles at every step. At the end of the round I could not wait to get them off and put on some flip flops for the drive home. Feet felt tired and beat. Probably done with them.

 

Anyone else have similar experience with them?

They have no arch, which takes some getting used to.

And yes, the first few times, my legs/calfs ached for a few days afterwords. I also had to put bandaids on the top of my ankles as for some silly reason, they installed that elastic that holds the tongue down and it absolutely destroyed the bridge of my ankle.

As for the rocks/pebbles, I feel them, but I don't see an issue unless I had to walk on large gravel during my rounds.

I now love them, but regret the time when I will have to break in a new pair(I have 1 extra pair). Not so much for the legs hurting, but I will have to wear the elastic on the tongue in again.

Don't have those issues with True Shoes.

You might try a thin insole to add comfort while still retaining the benefits of the shoe.

The true tours & phx models from 2012 were horrible on the tops of my ankles as well. Fortunately I felt the problem at the store and never bought them.

Otherwise, I have owned 4 pairs of the original tours, a pair of stealths, 3 pair of sensei, 1 proto and (as of last week) a pair of the gent wing tips. All of those models have felt great while walking. I remember some mild fatigue & soreness the first few times I walked in them (in 2010-11) but once my feet and legs strengthened to a zero drop shoe, I have found them to be more comfortable than any other golf shoe around.

I've come close to buying the TW 14's but the colors that I like most are only in mesh. The TRUE sensei is THE best lightweight, breathable shoe I have ever worn and am not yet interested in going away from them.

I have arch issues especially in left foot and I put some 'sofsoles arch' supports in and they completely transformed the shoe for me..no more heel pain. I walk and play at least 5 rds. per week. I use the Proto's so they are slightly different than the tour's but similar.

I just walked 100 holes in nothing but Trues (tours, protos and sensis). My feet were hurting afterwards, but i think that has more do with distance than with the shoe. Any other round that I play them in, they perform perfectly. I have a pair of True Gents that i'm going to try out today as well. I think the proto is probably my favorite shoe of them all, but you can't go wrong with any of them.

Ok, thought it was me?!?! I find my Eccos more comfortable. I think the Trues need more cushion at the bottom and then they would have a winner?!?! Hard to find shoes that are wide enough. All the Adidas are too narrow for me!

The balls of my left foot will hurt for a few days after each True wearing. Finally gave them away.

I would probably wear mine again if I was using a cart when I played, but I walk about 95% of the time so they are going in the back of the closet

In TRUEs you are supposed to feel the ground. The sole is less than 2 mil thick. It's my most favorite part of the shoes. Any other shoe you have zero feel.

Put your inserts in, or soles from your other shoes if you need more support. The wide toe box is where the comfort comes in.

I have extremely high arches and wear custom orthotics in all my shoes. I bought some Trues and walked 18 holes - put them on Kijiji for FREE next day and gave them away!
My feet were so sore I could hardly finish the round - I've never had a problem walking 18 holes before. Zero drop shoes are not for everyone - I need stable, stiff and rigid golf shoes. I'm gonna buy some FJ DryJoy Tours - I need a real shoe.

First of all, I had a very hard time finding these shoes. I even sent the local rep a message via facebook, and never heard back. I finally tracked some down, and tried on some Lyt Drys. The position my heels were in made me feel kile I was walking funny. I thought they were way overpriced, and I didn't think they were all that well built. I think the Footjoy Contour Casual, or the Dry Joy Casuals were better shoes both in comfort and price. Everybody says that the Trues take some getting used to, but I want shoes that I can take out of the box and feel comfortable. I want a familiar fit and comfort, not something I have to get used to. I know a lot of True wearers would never switch, but after trying them on, they are not the shoe for me.

I love mine...all of them. Tour, Sensei, Proto.
People need to realize that not every shoe works for all foot types. That is the reason there are so many different styles of running shoes. If you don't like the insoles or need more support, go for aftermarket insoles.

I personally think that if you feel that the shoes need more padding, you are probably stomping too much when you walk. Golf is generally played on grass, which is often pretty cushy. Try to pay attention to how your foot is hitting the ground, it shouldn't be a big impact.

I agree that this shoe isn't for everybody, but you won't know if they're for you or not after only one round. Give 'em a chance... Wearing True's and other barefoot shoes like the Merrill's have shown me how improperly I was walking in the first place, and how that has affected my posture; and had led to back pain.

Give 'em a couple rounds, and for your sake; wear them elsewhere for an hour or two around the house to help break them in.

Actually in my OP I mentioned that I had played four rounds in them. No thanks to more chances, after walking for four rounds or close to 20 miles, they are done.

I think this is one of the reasons I loved them so much. I run in Vivobarefoot, Merrells or Vibrams....0 drop is what I prefer now, and the vivo's only have a 3mm sole, so trues have plenty between me and the ground.

I have Tour and Proto and ordered a pair of [url="http://www.truelinkswear.com/shop/mens/true-lyt-breathe.html"]lyt breathe[/url] just this morning (for around town, probably not for golf). My calves were sore the first few times but I have wide feet and they are the most comfortable shoes I own.

Most people spend their entire adult life in a certain type of shoes, which are basically the opposite of the True philosophy. Most dress shoes and running shoes have a significant ramp angle (or heel-toe) drop and are quite structured, with insoles and support features. The True's are zero drop with virtually no support features. It takes more than a day or two (or a couple rounds of golf) to get used to the difference.

YMMV, but for me, moving to a lower drop, less supportive shoe in all my shoes was a great decision.

I've been fighting shoes for a couple yrs, I have wide flat feet. I have been using various versions of footjoy wide sized shoes the last couple years mostly along with shorter stints in ecco, callaway and nike. I walk almost exclusively. I took off my contours a couple weekends ago after a round and tossed them in the garbage right there on the course.
Bought a pair of lightly used true tours on ebay last week to give them a shot. Played in them yesterday for the first time. Totally different then anything I have worn before on the course. The zero drop changed my balance point after a couple steps, and the flat, wide arch area was a god send from the get go. Walking across the parking lot I wasn't too sure about the feel though. Barefoot on pavement is not cool, and neither are these shoes on pavement. However, once I got on the grass it all changed, the ground provided plenty of cushion and they felt great. Get on a green and you can feel every degree of slope through your feet. I loved it to be honest
It was the first round that I have walked 18 and my feet did not hurt in my entire life. They are a permanent fixture on my feet from here on out.
I will say that what makes them awesome on the course, makes them suck walking on hard surfaces or gravel, extended walks on cart paths not recommended. Although maybe your feet get more used to it with use.
