Came to a GS about a month ago and saw a set of used fake Mizuno MP-64s on the shelf. Told the manager and he promptly removed them. Came back today and lo and behold, back on the shelves. This place.

Just spoke to the manager. He assured me these were real. Said the Mizuno rep himself confirmed it. Said that the head that goes with graphite shafts is different. Even the fact that the 8 iron has no serial number on it, he attributed it to being the head that goes with the graphite shafts.

That is rather disconcerting. And here I thought that retail golf stores would employ at least [i]some[/i] people who were knowledgable on their product. You should take this higher up the food chain to GS corporate because I am positive there are some higher ups that wouldn't appreciate careless and/or ignorant staff selling counterfeit goods in their stores.

So for graphite shafted iron heads they must use metal from tin cans, a rattle can spray paint job in the cavity, completely different head shape, and sloppy fonts/logos as well. Makes sense.

Yup. Man that was frustrating. Any difference I pointed out, he just assured me that the head Mizuno uses for the graphite shafts is different.

lol those toplines look horrible... ive seen this set of fakes 10-20 times... the emblem, the cavity, the crappy stamping/paint fill, its all just so bad

call mizuno and let them know golfsmith is selling counterfeit goods

This, and the price tag says steel shafts. They, be $75-$100 more if advertised with the graphite shafts.

We've had these threads before.

It *seems* like GS has a corp culture that discourages management from pulling fake clubs. I'm not saying HQ tells managers to keep the up, it just seems like HQ rules make it very painful for local stores to pull them. It's easier to claim ignorance than feel pain from HQ.

You're better off getting in touch with Mizuno. If it's corp culture, HQ is just going to give it lip service and you'll see them back up in 3 months....

You could always ask the manager for the name of the Mizuno rep who "confirmed them". When he asked why you could tell him "Because I am going to call Mizuno directly because those are as fake as a three dollar bill and there is no way someone from Mizuno confirmed them."

Watch how fast he pulls them again. BUT, he will just put them back out once he thinks you are gone. Perhaps better to call Mizuno and let them come and take the garbage away so that no one is victimized by purchasing them.

I've heard of this from gs before. Also heard they'll take the wrapper off a new ping driver and hit it once just to mark it down below the ping prices by selling it as used. Not a good company to deal with and I avoid them all together.

Whats the MSRP on MP64s? I paid 575 for a new 3-pw set over a year ago.. how can heavily used fakes have a $770 price tag, that's stupid...

I can't believe the price they are asking for a bunch of irons that look like they've been rattling around in the trunk for about 2 years. GS just continues to smear their own reputation with overpriced golf clubs. There are two GS's withing 7 miles of me, and a Carl's Golf Land about 25 miles. If I go to GS it's just for accessories, not golf clubs.

To be honest I'm glad the price is high. Means no one will buy them. Enough time for someone from Mizuno to get there.
