Sergio Garcia swing, Closest to Hogan

MK7Golf21

Recommended Posts

From everything I have learned about hogans swing and trying the different pieces, When I look at the current tour players swings, Sergio Garcia has the closest swing to hogans imo. He stands very upright to the ball at addess, brings the club back and up but on the downswing, he then really drops and flatten's that shaft. Hogan and Sergio both do it to a degree that you dont see in hardly any players. The main reason Sergio gets all that lag is because of how much he flattens it and then drives/steepens it into the ball, Hogan did the same thing and Im sure he had alot of compression as well. Im just saying I think Sergio learned most of his swing from Hogan, its the same dynamics. Hogans might of looked more graceful whereas Sergios looks more aggressive. Not saying they did everything the same but I think Sergios is the closest on tour to hogans.

These moves are pretty hard to master, Ive tried some of them and got the lag etc that sergio has but its just too much going on thats what makes Sergio and Hogan so unique is because they can pull these moves off. What do you guys think?

I don't see it. I'd put Duff on my list above El Nino

Duff hasn't got the lag/power of Sergio/Hogan.

Sergio certainly putting up some Hoganesque numbers up at the moment. 59 for the back nine last night and front 9 today. 20 greens in regulation in a row and counting.

I think Phil has the closest swing to Hogan. Phil swing isn't as perfect but has the most similarities. Sergio's swing is to short.
[/quote]Phil and Hogan release the club in totally different manners, Sergio is a fair comparison, mostly because their dynamics are similar, and that they are built similarly. The biggest difference between Sergio and Hogan is what is going on between the ears.

I'm talking about more of the flow in the backswing.

I figured duff's name would come up and like the other poster said he doesnt flatten as much and then steepen into the ball and lacks the lag they had. He is a major watered down version and wanna be swinger like hogan. The main thing Im seeing if the upright address position and the major flattening of the shaft below the plane line on downswing and then steepening into ball. Hogan and Sergio both do this to degrees I dont see in other players on the tour. This is the main reason for all sergios lag. Not sure how Sergio started swinging that way other than from watching Hogan

The backswing? Now post everything from transition to finish.. they look nothing alike.

I agree Sergio gets the club on the original shaft plane at impact similar to Hogan. Very few do anymore.

Sergeo has a lot of hand action through the ball. He is not flippy by any means, but he does not release the club with his pivot like Hogan did.

Hunter Mahan has a lot in common with Hogan into impact, but a slight discontinuity in his hip work around impact makes his swing overall quite different. Dufner has more of an arms swing through the ball but he is very Hogan like post impact and into the finish.

Rory's swing looks better than ever, btw. His hip stall is practically gone and he has a lot of leverage through the ball even with the driver.

i agree duffners swing is more hoganesq. the only part of sergieo,s swing that looks like hogan is his laid off club at the top and the start of the downswing. the rest dosnt look like hogan at all. want to see a good hogan swing -check out cristo garcia on utube at myswingeveloution.

No offence intended here, but you're a long way off the mark with this comment.

Cristo Garcia does not swing like Ben Hogan. He dresses like him.  I would not take any swing advice from him, for one he isn't really that good of a player or ball striker, and is not a PGA certified teaching Pro either, but I will admit that he is a great communicator and produces really interesting content, so he is going to appeal to a lot of people bitten by the golf bug. He also seems like a nice person who has gone from a 12 handicap to a 5 handicap and documented it. It was only when he started giving "lessons" and selling stuff that I lost interest.
