The Yamaha has the same insert as the Ram TW805 I picked up few months ago, right down to the Graphite decal. I wonder if there is a connection between the two.

I think Louisville Golf made the Ram persimmons from that era.  Wouldn't be surprised if they also did the Yamaha heads sold here.

Wow. The Yamaha is nearly identical to the Ram. Good to know. If I enjoy the club I’ll look for Ram woods of the same make to fill out a set.

I almost certain I've never seen a Yamaha persimmon before. I had a carbon head 3w when I started playing golf in the mid to late Eighties, and I think that was made by Yamaha. Perhaps because of that, I've always associated Yamaha with exotic materials rather than traditional persimmons.

 

Looks like a nice little 5w, anyway.

The old Mizuno custom order offered a number of different stamping options, including some minimalist ones. 

I'm pretty sure they're Yoro custom MP33s.

I have never seen any Yamaha persimmon woods either or at least over here. Anything Yamaha I have ran into was Carbon Fiber

Right? I check out persimmon clubs regularly here on auction sites, and I can't remember ever seeing a Yamaha. 

 

That 5w might be a bit of a rare find.

I have these listed for sale as to I’m not enjoying the way they look at address as compared to my 60s m tourneys.  But I bought them from a lady who said they belonged to her WW2 vet grandfather which I thought was very cool.  1958 only issues are they are missing the butt caps on the grips.

I have an identical set. Mine had rubber grips in bad shape. That is the set I literally pulled out of the junkpile on Friday used athletic tape on the grips and played that Saturday with. That was the day I played the whole junk yard set and shot like 80 on a real hard course. I have not hit them in a while because my back can not handle the heavy Pro Pel shafts right now

Hmmm so maybe I outta make room for them in the collection.  They just look so "boxy and square" compared to the '63 FC4000s I usually use.

So these aren't technically a new acquisition, but couldn't find any where else to post them in this sub-form so figured this could work.  I just refinished my entire hickory set.  It was a very fun but very time consuming project.  I don't even want to think about how much I spent on buying tools and supplies to do all this!  I relied very heavily on the videos that are posted on the Hickory Golf Workshop website and got most of my supplies there.  Gary, who runs the shop, was extremely generous with his time and answering questions I had as things came up during the process.  So if you need any hickory-related supplies I highly recommend checking out his site.  His videos are invaluable as well if you're thinking of doing something like this.  Wish I had take before pictures but alas, I didn't think that far ahead.  

 

I replaced 3 shafts, which included buying the raw hickory shafts, staining and protecting them with a finish, and sanding them down to fit into the clubs.  I then replaced all the grips with Buffalo hide grips and redid all the whipping on the clubs.  I then re-finished all the heads, which basically entailed grinding off the old rust with a wire wheel and polishing them up.  I also coated the woods and had to do some repairs to my Brassie, as it had developed a small crack in the back.  Hope it holds!  

 

I'm glad I took the time to learn how to do this.  Future repairs should be much easier and working on just a club or two will be a breeze compared to doing the entire set like this.

Really nice work. I need to learn how to maintain my hickories, but have no aptitude for repairs. I'm afraid I'll mess up the clubs. I'll check his website out though and maybe start with a re-grip or two. Thanks for sharing your clubs.

A friend of mine didn't have time to work on his hickories and so he sent them to Gary to do the work.  He was very pleased and happy with the results.  So that is always an option as well.  Starting with trying to put on some new grips is a good idea though, not too much can wrong there.

Yep they have a more squared off toe----- Will give you a hint if you catch the long irons good they will go!!! Now for me the copper faced clubs do not stop as good as a FC faced one does. Yep you need to make room

MacGregor MT2s from 1965.

The irons are in fantastic shape 2-11.  The woods are matching from 1965 but in rougher shape.   These have been together for 56 years.  
 

I have a set of the 1966 RMT2s.  Which have I believe the same design but different name, faces, and the back logos are slightly different.

These had a flatter lie than the previous M Tourneys and they are slightly longer in length.

Just watched the 79 US open last round (USGA channel Roku), with lots of Jerry Pate, great putter and swing.  I think he had the metal insert MacG driver like above MT2, from what I saw on the telecast.  the USGA channel on Roku is highly recommended for connoisseurs of this era.

Any time I'm able to add some Wood Brothers to the golf room, it's generally a pretty good day. Very early model Texan's here with some unique characteristics. Both are stamped "Texan" on the crown, and the early model sole plates signify early production at Wood Bros. One thing I have never seen on another any other clubs though, is the Humble stamp on the driver insert. Pretty cool and unique clubs all around despite them having their shafts replaced somewhere along the way. Steel shafts will be put back in when they get sent out for a spa treatment.

Scored a set (2-E) of 1973 Hogan Apex irons with #3 shafts.  Also came with 1-3-5 Persimmon too.  They need a major cleanup but should be a decent flip!

I bought these in April assumed they were lost in the mail.  Got a refund last week and they finally showed up.  The buyer discounted them down to $40 shipped for my hassle.

 

The short irons are a little more beat up than the long but they are all playable.   I used them twice and I’m slightly better with these than my beloved M Tourneys.  
 

I did a paint fill and conditioned the leather grip this afternoon.

It's not persimmon, but I like to think it's a classic....   I mixed up the epoxy earlier, put together a Cobra Deep Face driver, with an Aldila NV75 shaft.  Going to slather it in lead tape to get it to a D6-ish swingweight at 43.5".

 

Looking forward to taking it on the course at some point.  🙂
